In the early "70s someone though this junk rod look was cool and the fad was started. Do your research or at least look it up on Wikipedia. It's no big secret.

why spend money on a body when who cares what it looks like, if your going for looks get a camaro or somthing hot rodding, im no expert but it's about performance, for the thousands of dollars you put into body work and such if you can't do it yourself put it into suspension, weight distribution, power, lots more other stuff you can do.

However I'm glad that more people don't share it since that would mean the end of the hot rod hobby as we know it and many beautiful rods would never have been built. I like old cars and part of that is taking care of then. The car in this video looks like it would clean up nicely and I hope the owner did not miss the opportunity to make it into something special. Do you also not like to see old cars restored to original stock condition?

Rat rods got their start in the '70s as imitations and exaggerations of the early hot rods.
