No, I missed seeing him by one year in Marquette, MI.
I had to, went home early, having to attend the . . . whoever wrote Diamond Girl concert. And that other band . . . such a dissappointment. BTO dissappointment.
I always felt that Shawn loved this superb song more than I did, and then I heard this version with Mauritz Lotz. Mauritz, you inspire Shawn brilliantly, and I wish you the most fulfilling life possible just for that.
One of the few purists in this commercial world. Shawn don't ever sellout! It's a pleasure to experience your shows & am looking forward to your next South African visit. Peace brother.
There's enough people out there chasing the quick buck, & not enough people like Shawn that say FVCK YOU to the giant recording companies. Rock on.
@TheTrickzta Don't worry, Shawn's integrity is way beyond selling out, and will remain that way forever. Your comments are totally on, otherwise, and I thank you for being a real person.
I'll bet you love "Radio", too! Shawn is so good, I consider him "scary good". There is absolutely no one better. Impossible to top him - he has it all, musically.
Will he ever have huge fame? Maybe not, but that is part of my vision of a brilliant future for real people.
I DISAGREE I think his performance is exceptional its uncommercial and much better than seeing the stones sell out like a bunch of corporate losers with their veggie burgers and we have gone straight but we still rock attitude this guy is definately a guy you could have a pint with
the album is Collaboration (A&M - 1971 is what my album cover says) Second Contribution was 1970 (A&M) Faces was 1972 and Bright White was 1973.
these few postings on YT are great but everyone please put Shawn's full name in the Tags and fill in the Information box with some enlightenment for the kids. Thanks.
This song is easy. It's mostly an E, and then G and F# for the other two chords. it's like: x 7 9 9 Yellow Flowers x 7 7 9 Bought Today x 10 12 12 Bought 'em from the man who x 9 11 11 Lives down the other way... repeat! And on the album version there's a bass figure that's E E2... E E2 D B and from the whole two live vids of this song i've seen, he takes huge liberties with how he plays it. Just jam on it until it sounds good to you.
I haven't heard Shawn Philips in years. I forgot what an impact he had on me and on my writing and playing. A true one of a kind artist and I am thankful to have run into this video, for a moment he and I are both younger and I listen as a student to a master.
Ya cany beat him.. I have been enjoying him for a LOOOONG time myself. Freaks alot of people I know out. Dont know why... Just the voice I guess. No, just different than most listen to but I too am a little strang. LOL
@inatizzy2 I not only saw this arrogant fuck, I helped unload his truck once while working at the Belle Starr lodge in Colden NY. He made the entire bar shut up while he played, didn't even want to hear a cash register or he was "leaving". Maybe he was pissed that I charged him twenty bucks to help for ten minutes. Oh well, fuck him anyway, he's an asshole that plays like shit so I didn't stay to watch .
Shawn Phillips is truly amazing in his powerful deliverance of his music. His lyrical prowess is unbending and I had the opertunity to see him in concert on May 4th here in mpls, mn at the Guthrie theater, wow, he still has it after all these years. Get to see him again in July in St Cloud on the 30th. His DVD from the 2008 reunion concert held at the MN Zoo titled "Living Collaboration" is out, its a DVD of wonderment and awesomeness, go purchase it, you'll be very pleased indeed.........
Still got it...and happy you're alive after all these years and performing given your seriouc heart condition and that horrific incident with your long hair getting caught in boat engine...Good Lord wants you around a bit longer!
Does he tries to sound like MJ, but the music's dope!

Shawn's not what he was 30 years ago, who is? When a master sings and plays, you be quiet and remember. Nothing wrong with respect.
