  • wow nice vid!

  • the bird ahahahahah XD

  • very nice i was in south ohio when there was a tornado warning

  • About half way through this video I realized that during this storm, my parents were on the phone with me FROM Hutchinson to St. Louis telling me that they had never seen weather like this before in their lives. Brought an insane chill down my spine.

I need to start reading video descriptions before I watch them.

  • Bye bye Birdie

  • bird is like im going land on that sign watch the storm hehe *lands on the sign blows off* fuck it wind is to strong

  • just looked up the date and weather reports for the next day and it reports 70 tornadoes were reported with this storm cell on may 23rd, 2008 in Kansas.

  • Very nice siren system in Hutchinson.

  • birdy got owned =/

  • I Love Tornados E-F5 IS THE BEST

  • "THIS IS NOT A DRILL..." I remember this. I watched this storm on the news come straight up highway K-61, as mentioned in the video. Reno County was under a Tornado Warning for a little over an hour that night. Quite terrifying but all's well that ends well I suppose. Great video of what was happening outside while my family and I were hiding in the basement. :)

  • the bird. XD

  • @bookworm1960 uhh no that was real. That storm was on the show stormchasers

  • @stlchevy95 Didn't say it was fake, just that it seemed fake, with the audio running unbroken through the breaks in the video

  • scary

  • 1:44 and on seems like those scarey rides at those amusment parks

  • good video!

was pissing my self luaghing at the bird trying to fly.

  • wow.. this is incredible

    ***** stars / thumbs up

    peace,

    ~Eleven

  • Seems fake, no breaks in the audio where there are breaks in the video.

  • That is some Twister opening scene stuff going on here

  • scene from the movie twister

  • I was there! I was on the north end of Hutchinson when this hit. The green color in the sky right before it hit was something I will never forget.

  • I was there! I was on the north end of Hutchinson when this hit. The green color in the sky right before it hit was something I will never forget.

  • I'd be freaking out if I were that bird. And those people.

  • have you noticed after every tornado at night the next morning is always clear blue lol

  • Awesome winds and sirens sounds spooky i like it and the winds were about 80 mph or more

  • hooooooooooooooooly shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit

  • @lioness901 LMFAO ROTFLOL LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • what bird ?

  • @ 2:22 notice how it ( siren ) just kinda hangs there ?... and in the previous moment there was a "dual-tone" followed by pumped harmonics, then a letdown followed by this hang ?.. I would speak directly to the eugenics of the tone but Overtures and Overturns never had it so good ...

  • Now that's an eerie sound.

  • @faffaflunkie well that's the sirens, for sure .. I *clearly* remember exactly that sound from a wide-body vortex with no surround cloud reported to be a stong tornado in early 60's -- that is exactly the Hutchinson Kansas Tornado CD sirens, which Hollywood cannot come close to

  • Imagine how the Native Americans put up with this!

  • Those sirens make it seem really scary.

Although they do serve a purpose, they are just time capsules of the Cold War.

  • i thought that when the sirens do that it means air raid

  • thats kansas for you............speaking of that we just had a tornado warning lol

  • Sorry Bird at 2:25 R.I.P Bird That Die In Tornado!

  • @davidcisneros8 I don't think it actually died...and from what i remember no tornado touched down in the area.

  • Sometimes I think they TRY to make the sirens sound as eerie as possible... This is my worst nightmare, being stuck in a tornado.

  • narly

  • that must be really crazy

  • i would love to be there and see the storm and be outta school for a few days

  • thats not creapy er anything, were u in a carwash

  • Poor birdy at 2:25 - 2:32

  • What kind of Sirens are in Hutch? jw

  • the kinds that go woooOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooo

  • @Masonveatch 2001's and a Thunderbotl 1000 next to MY school-yeah, its less then a hundred yards away. And they test 'em when im at lunch...wich happens to be the closet part of the buillding to the siren. Its the attack signal they are sounding, wich is the reason for the up-and-down signal.

  • IN ARVADA, CO. (1998) They removed all civil defense sirens and scraped them. No replacements were erected. the City council said such sirens were unneeded and that the sirens were being terminated for "bugett cuts (yeah, right!). In 2009, a stormcell came through the area and caused three seperate tornados. Several people died. Several more injured. They MIGHT have managed to get to safety had there been Sirens to warn them! Nice going Arvada cheapskates!

  • I know I was suprised that it was still going at that time at night.

  • I remember this storm I was west of Medison Loge win it started to rotate and saw the tornado near Pratt and I fallowed the Storm to Hutch and got a hotel and ended the night.

  • I am never ever ever chasing a supercell at night, EVER lol.

  • it would have great if that tornado had destroyed hutchinson...there is isn't anything here anyways except a salt...

  • Where I'm from (Massachusetts), there's no tornado sirens. So if a strong tornado would to occur, people wouldn't have time to seek shelter.

  • i wish i was there

  • this is motherfucking sick !

wish i was there to see that stuff

  • Kaleighrox2, yup, thats a 1000 your hearing, it is right next to the school I attend here.

  • OMFG BEFORE TE END OF T-STORM

  • at 2:28 look at the poor bird

  • I wish I was there!

  • 1:52 nice thunder crash!

  • 2:25 poor birdie. :(

  • This is like the most scariest tornado footage I've ever seen! Awesome vid!

  • dont ever live in kansas

  • I live in Kansas, in this town actualy, and it aint a tronad-ridden hellhole.

  • was that a car at the end

  • Poor bird!

  • @ shannonrwalton1

just think of it as a treadmill for birds :P

  • mwa ha, i guess so, but i hope that bird was ok! ha ha

  • a.) i live in an area where we rarely get storms that big, so what is a supercell?

b.) it must stink to live in kansas and that area where you get tornadoes a lot.

c.) i would have freaked out sooo bad!!

  • Supercells are thunderstorms that rotate into a single cell and the single cell could have strong rotation that can tranform into a supercell. Supercells happen in the summer when warm moist air meets up with cool dry air high in the sky and it creates the thunderstorm so yeah thunderstorms can rotate into a supercell. but supercells rarley happen.

  • They aren't all that rare on the Great Plains.... Many of them are just hailers or rainers and don't produce tornadoes. Less than 10% of supercells are strong enough to produce tornadoes. The ones that do... are unstoppable.

  • It doesnt stink, and we DOT get tornadoes here or even supercells, thank-you!

  • oh srry, not to good with geography cuz my school doesnt offer it. so ya. srry.

  • HOLY CRAP

  • look at that crazy bird fighting the storm at 2:25 lol

  • that shit was crazy i remember that night...of course my dad and I were outside drinking beer and trying to spot a tornado from outside our house in south hutch.

  • I hope im dead before the apocaolypse..because this will be what its like..

  • poor bird at 2:25

  • whats that on the car in front of you at 0:11?

  • You mean the water droplets reflecting the taillight?

  • ok we get it there is a Supercell shut off the sirens!

  • wat time did that storm happened

  • i got chills just watching this

  • That siren was eerie but that is one nice fucking weather!

  • ok i ment to thumbs up but it ended up thumbs down srry still it is nice

  • LOL! THATS FUNNY!

  • Scary

  • lol the bird was funny

  • when that happened I had to go to school looking at that wreckage every day but now its cleened up

  • never mind this is the 2008 one

  • i live 30 min away from that i took out so meny houses in hutch is was so scary

  • Wow, so the sirens are real. I always thought it only existed in movies.

  • Come on....I can't believe you thought that. Happens almost everyday somewhere in America.

  • Yeah, well, i've lived in Miami, Florida all my life. We don't have sirens here. Sorry, geesh.

  • Wow!! That bird didn't have a chance!!

  • Yeah, the poor bird might as well have been trying to fly through a car wash...lol.

  • @vmax135 Do you work for a news company as a storm tracker?

  • Damn, why do I live in Michigan!?!

  • how about large hail?

  • High plains tornado season has only begun. Great vids, guys.

  • the high plains are north and south dakota of course south dakota is in tornado vally and we had a tornado in dickinson !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • that did some damge

  • God, that is one hell of a storm!

  • I live in Hutchinson and i wish this kinda weather [excluding the flooding of the ditches..] happens more often..i dont mean for it to be actually harming anyone, just the thrill of the weather i guess to me...

I usually drive out towards Yoder or Inman, sometimes Buhler, just to see storms roll by. Call me crazy :] i love the sound of the sirens aswell :S

  • Hey, I'm a siren fanatic too. Nothing to be sorry for. I'm from Salina and we only test our sirens monthly.

  • Ditto. Summers are a thrill here in central KS. I live in Rice County. We get some pretty awesome storms around here.

  • There is nothing more amazing than watching a tornadoic supercell at NIGHT.

    Praise nature.

  • As long as you're not in the path, I agree.

  • 2:05--that siren's got one heck of a scream.

  • Wish I was riding shotgun!!

  • Those sirens are a sound of relief to me !

  • rain-wrapped tornado. looks like a high wind report.

  • I am from Hutch...live in the frigid North now...thanks for letting me walk memory lane....nice footage

  • I noticed at about 1:31 of the video, the power got knocked out.

  • hey Michael, great footage

very eerie. the things nightmares are made of.

  • Thanks Evan! This was definitely pretty high up on the creepy meter...haha! It would have been a real 'nightmare' if the the wedge that had accompanied this cell for most of its life had plowed through Hutchinson.

  • lol i live in hutch

  • Me too

  • i hear tornado sirens theres a thunderbolt1000t at 0:08

  • i can hear tornadoe sirens thunderbolt 1000T at 0:08

  • Amazing I love Tornadoes man

  • Gosh i live in New Zealand i have never heard an American Tornado alarm warning before man thats crepy just relize how lucky i am as i have read over 100 tornadoes touch doen in tornado valley is for you guys cant remember but anyway nice video

  • I am the severe weather anchor that you hear on the radio at the beginning of this clip. The sirens in Hutchinson/South Hutchinson are all 2001s except for 2 of them. Model 5 on top of Plaza Towers in Downtown Hutch and a Thunderbolt siren at the South Hutch Elementary School. At one time, we had a few thunderbeams and majority of them at one time were Thunderbolts but all were replaced by 2001s except for the one Model 5 and Thunderbolt previously mentioned. Approx. 25-30 Sirens in Hutchinson.

  • WOW...that's awesome, you did a great job on the air that night, we were listening to you guys for quite awhile!

  • I also think i might hear a whelen but i am not sure

  • It's not a whelen. it's a 2001 in attack mode. Hutchinson doesn't have whelens--as far as I know.

  • at 1:08 and 1:14 thats where i Think i hear a whelen. but i could b wrong take a listen :)

  • yes its a 2001...it's in wail mode because it's running DC power....when the AC power became available It ran alert.

  • Theres a T-bolt right next to the school and the rest are 2001s.

  • I hope to chase with you one day!

  • wow sceary not

  • Fantastic video Michael - a very very eerie scene at night with the sirens going off. Brilliant!

  • Thanks so much James!!! Chasing at night is always freaky, especially with a cyclic cell that has a history of long-track violent tornadoes...haha. Between 1:00 - 1:15 in the clip, there's actually a large conical funnel just off to the left of my shot. It was obscured from my view, but another chaser who was with us got a good shot of it as it briefly touched down.

  • 2:25--poor bird :-(

  • AHHA HAHA i would have never noticed that bird if you wouldn't had pointed it out...it looks like it was on the ground next to this guys car..the best was when it tried to land on the sign and just got blown away by the wind!!

  • 1:57 to 2:34 of this video is kind of like a real-life Wizard of Oz.

  • pretty scary

  • was it EF2?

  • was that a high-line tower at 2:52, anybody know??

  • kinda funny that scientists thought they could fly a remote controlled helicopter with a video camera stuck to it into a tornado, somehow find it in one piece again, and then learn more about how tornadoes form... geniuses...Hahahaha

  • I love the sirens!

  • Did the power go out at the gas station?

  • Ya I remember this day me a some friends were out at cheney fising we waited till the tornado warning was clear then we went out to our spot by the rufuge. Its about a good 30 min walk not raining at all untill we get almost there and ya you know you seen the rain in the clip not fun lol. But we caught some nice wipers. The lighting was scary also :) Good video thanks

  • *shivers* that night was a VERY SCARY drive home from Wichita! And we sought shelter in Haven! how appropriate :)

  • LOL! Hope it was a "safe" Haven.

  • holy moly

  • I can't stop watching this

  • I remember that. I live in south hutch. very exciting XD

  • Those sirens definitely make the video incredibly sinister. Thunderbolts and lightning, very very frightening me!

  • Definatly what I am most scared of in Chasing

  • All I can say is WOW! Great video. The sound of the sirens in town just makes it perfect. There is always something creepy about hearing the sirens going off in a dark and deserted small town in Kansas.

  • Thanks so much Eric, glad you liked the clip! The sirens wailing definitely made this particular intercept very creepy.

  • Night Time rotation, sirens, wicked CG strikes.....this is a scary video!!!! Awesome job Mike!

    SCM

  • Thanks Mike! Knowing that a large long-track tornado had been on the ground with this particular cell, and seeing such strong rotation on radar as it approached, was definitely scary. Glad you enjoyed the clip.

  • finally the siren goes off lol

  • Ilove the combo of sirens both the Thunderbolts and 2001s sound great together

  • Nice footage! I love the sound of the sirens and the flashes of lightning!

  • Thanks so much! The sirens definitely make this video come to life.

  • Cool video. The tornado sirens I am hearing Include Federal Signal 2001s and Thunderbolts.
