WOW WOW im really sick of hearing on tv! on the pc! THIS IS HOW YOU USE VIRUS PROTECT INSTALE PROGRAMES ON CROME BOOK!!!!!!!!! ITS LIKE CLOUD GAMING THUMBS UP FOR ANNOYING REPEATING ADS!
this is how you install programs on a chromebook...... oh yeah, you can't
you don't need cds to install programs on a chromebook...... and you'd be stuck if you did (no cd drive)
Why would you want to buy a netbook with only Google chrome on it when you can get a laptop at the same price that you can use offline, install and program you want etc. INCLUDING CHROME!
Google you're doing it wrong! The community most interested with Chromebooks is the developer community! Yet there are no development tools for it. No FTP, no IDEs or compilers.
You are failing to satisfy your largest consumer base for the Chromebook.
@privateabstract There are cloud based IDEs out there (respectable ones), most with built in FTP. A good drag n drop ftp client is essential though! It's not quite the finished article but it's a great step towards cloud based computing for the masses, imo.
This is meant for people who use computer for internet only. This is a light use laptop.Your not gonna play dota.Maybe a web games. This is for business man.
so google now own youtube, and they are putting their own adverts on the frontpage, youtube has gone to shit, fuck your neverending adverts, fuck chrome book or whatever piece of shit is the next best pile of bollocks and stick it up your ass, (thumbs down from me)
y so many dislikes? when was the last time somebody logged into a computer to NOT surf the web? If ur not connected to the internet, any pc is a useless piece of junk. And who uses CDs anyways? want games, use steam!
All these comments from people who havent even used one. I'm on one right now and couldnt be happier with it. I can work anywhere, any time and always have my files on hand. Sensitive data is put on a usb drive. They werent exaggerating either, this thing is fast as hell. Obviously I have the wifi and 3g version.
@Pibikhen What are you talking about? Since all of the "programs" are in the cloud, your data is all still being stored and processed on some remote server somewhere. Storing files on a USB stick is just creating another copy, not keeping the data secure from prying eyes
@RJForce If you had used one then you would know not everything has to be 'online'. Those statements are coming from people who have no clue what they're on about. You can store everything 'offline'. Just for example: I recently developed the backend of a site with an online IDE without saving anything in the cloud and put it all on a SD card, which was handed over to the client. Hell, saving it to the SSD on the chromebook would probably be safer than saving it on a mac or pc if your paranoid..
Want more points on app trailers? Then download the free app ‘app trailers’ and put the bonus code ‘free giveaway’. hurry right now the servers are hacked! So they might suspend my account, hurry before they do!
I like the idea of Chromebooks but I do NOT like the price. For that price I'll have a normal laptop which is more flexible thanks. Therefore I'll never have one, so they're totally irrelevant to me. Makes you wonder if they actually did any market research before developing it or they just made it because it seemed pretty cool.
Wow I can't believe they have created this cheap piece of crap made by Acer (who everyone knows are a cheap shitty laptop company with a 3 year lifespan) and basically tweaked the name of the Macbook. Lack of imagination and innovation.
personally i can think of two types of people who would get this 1. old people who cant figure out how to work a normal netbook 2. people that use computers for pure menial tasks such as going on facebook 24/7
It's called a Chromebook because it mixes Google Chrome with a Notebook.
Its all internet app based, everything is in the cloud, so it runs faster and more stable than a normal computer. It doesn't have the perks of a normal laptop, but its meant to be for people who use the internet for everything, which will probably take over a majority of the PC market someday
I could buy a laptop for that much, and that has all those expensive programs and bits of technology you claim to have gotten rid of, so why does your keyboard and screen that connects to the internet cost so much??
@gentleuterus If your phone doesn't have cell reception, it's a useless piece of junk. If your car doesn't have gas, it's a useless piece of junk. If your laptop doesn't have battery, it's a useless piece of junk.... So no shit sherlock.
@thisisjustjeff With a smartphone at least you can use basic apps even without Internet. You can't even use notepad on the Chromebook without Internet. Pathetic.
@gentleuterus It has offline access you derp. Anyway, the idea of it is as a netbook? So it's primary use is going to be on the internet? You can make your docs offline, compose the emails etc. Then just connect to the net when you send/upload them.
And for, many, the internet is their primary usage of a computer.
FURIOUS!

MerlinUsesCtrl 2 months ago
yeah you don't need to install anything because it doesn't have any memory.
all of your stuff is uploaded to a cloud.
Anything you upload to the cloud, you don't own and can be legally taken from you, denied or deleted (and looked at without your permission)
so, your newborn baby's pictures that you ''save'' on your chromebook... you down own.
Not to mention the cloud is stored on the UNDERWEBS and CAN be hacked into if someone was determined enough.
anyone who buys into this cloud is a fool
