@WolvesBlesedByACurse Proper string gauge isn't determined by the guitar though really... Even with the teles bigger scale, some people like big strings...
And woah, Where do you find strings that thick anyway?
gotcha...idk...it took me awhile to stop fucking up guitars with dropped tunings and big strings...so i eventually learned how to set one up and left it in tune lol...
just out of curiosity, what did you tune the 6 string to to play this? just wondering...i don't think i would ever tune mine below dropped C honestly...
Either shave down your nut to hold uber-thick strings, buy a 7-string with thick strings, or simply sell your soul for an 8-string. Otherwise, you'll never be able to get the actual tuning and tone used by Meshuggah. It's a rich man's sound lol. Or, you can tune UP to an entire octave above what Meshuggah plays and simply buy a mediocre octaver pedal that will shift it down an octave. That'd probably be cheaper but idk how it would sound.
yeah i know that the guy is playing that song in a, but the REAL song on the album is in f, you wrote that the real song is in f#! but it is an half step downtuned to f.. so u dont kno wut ur talking about DUDE........
You don't need a fucken 8 string to play this song, just down tune the shit outta your guitar. Meshuggah only use 8 strings to get good tension and a clearer sound. @murdersoul: And when the fuck did the number of strings become a "fad"? You fucken twat.
u gotta be kidding.. that's not even close :O.. you can't tell the difference between an emo kid and some half long hair?.. plz.. just becuase i havn't got a haircut in a while dosen't make me emo...
so you must have a 8 string, the same amp, the same strings, the same distortio and meshuggah as band mates to have the permition to play it??? :P :D :S
String count is not a fad. More strings = more range, simple as that. You can tune a sixxer as low as you want, but you'll lose the high strings at the same time, not to mention all the stuff you can do when you use two handed tapping to do rhythm and melody lines at the same time, the bounds are endless.
Its far from a fad. Range is a huge thing, especially if you want to be all fancy and play rhythm and Melody a-la the Chapman Stick or Warr guitars. Those ones are even more ridiculous and have upwards of 12 strings. And its not just chug, a lot of it is djent (y'know, the 4-note double octave chords that sound absolutely HUGE and sound weak on anything less than a 7) so its not just useless extra stings that you aren't going to use, its a legit instrument.
...I play six and seven string instruments, want to get an 8 as well, i have to say its particularly fun to be able to run through a an a minor arpegio in a six string fashion at your 12th and end it with a cheesy ass blues variation and bound all the way back to the low B for another arpeggiated a minor run at a lower octave, I guess these are the practice runs of talentless musicians huh? why don't you just go have a sandwhich.
Good job. Considering the fact that you're using a 2-string guitar, a cheesburger for a pick, and this is your -1st time playing the song... I think you did an admirable job. Kudos.

not the most serius recording :).. i recordet it just for fun while waiting for a phone call.. haha.. take it for what it is.. i just learned those riffs before i pressed rec :)
I learned all of nothing, catch 33, and obzen on a 6 string. it's perfectly doable. i now have a downtuned 7 string which is PERFECT, but don't knock the guy for trying.
i did notice most of the ppl who play this song and other usually miss a few notes here and there and simplify the songs, which is not good. I think I only notice because I slow the songs down in Cool Edit Pro and analyze every note as I learn the songs. that's the best way to truly learn the songs. p.s. tabs are always wrong.
The only tabs I have are the ones I made myself of a few of the more complicated sections of a few of the songs, and they are for 6, 7, or 8 string guitars the way I wrote them, just as long as you are tuned properly or an octave higher if using a 6 string with normal strings. So, I guess you could say I do, kind of :)
You could just tune your 6 string way down. I'm pretty sure thats what he did. I don't think you really need the high strings anyways except maybe for the solo.
hehe.. i think you'r the forth or fith how commented on that.. :)
why comment the obvious?.. it's not like i know it's a tele and that im playing a meshuggah song :P.. but i dont have an 8string ibanez or whatever.. so i play with what i have :)

hehe :P.. that's true.. my ibanez and my bc rich had broken strings at that moment..

And Meshuggah is using this range? Chug Chug.
It's a fad. A 6 string contains all the notes. "Range" is for talentless musicians. Everyone else seems to do fine with a mere 6 strings.
