Nothing better than coming home from school in 83-84 &my older sis having on MV3. My parents wud never spring for cable so, MV3 and Friday NIght Videos on NBC? were the closest we ever got. &we always had the Betamax VCR fired up&ready 2go. Somehow we knew we were saving something really worth archiving. And even watching those old tapes now in their grainy, untracked, warbly state, somehow brings back warmer memories that watching 100% crystal clear versions of them on retro dvds. Weird eh? :)
Like this video post comment says, in the 80's not everyone had cable. I was too small in the early 80's to have seen MV3 and I'm of the MTV generation (my earliest memory of MTV is from 1984 and onwards). However, my family came from Spain and we were poor and couldn't afford cable TV. And we spent the entire 80's without cable; we didn't get it till 1990 and the 90's. I miss the 80's though as those were fun carefree years when I was just a kid.
MV3. After thinking about it for a moment, I totally remember this show. Use to come on right before wrestling, on Saturdays I believe. Anyhow it's cool to see an classic Berlin clip. They have always done good music I still play often
even though oingo boingo isnt making music anymore, danny elfman still is! check out the anniversary music box he is releasing with tim burton, theres going to be a ton of exclusive oingo boingo content on there
Watching Terri Nunn really reminds me of how influential Debbie Harry was for a whole generation of new wave and indie female performers who came after her and even those from today's scene.
Years before she dyed the ends of her hair brown...possibly the shortest "skirt" ever seen on TV...thank you for uploading this video! It's given me a wonderful flashback! The 80's were hideous and beautiful at the same time...definitely original.
Why can't there be a show like this for bands who are inspired by these from the 80's for these days? I remember on KTVU Channel 2 in San francisco that a few hours of MTV were broadcast from 3pm to about 6pm on weekdays and from 1pm to 4 or 5pm on Saturdays Just after Solid Gold which was on at Noon just after American bandstand. I was just 3-5 years old and still remember this now. Seriously we need a decent Music channel that plays Music 24 hours new and old!
Wasn't the host of this in the movie 'Girls just wanna have fun' in 85' as the host of that show? btw, Berlin/Terri fans look up Terri on Facebook and add the group Terri Nunn Fans! :-)
Incredible! I remember seeing this video when it was shown on TV in LA, I think on Ch. 9. I was the only kid in my school that watched MV3. I also remeber the cute female host. Since I went to a black junior high school, no other girls looked like Nunn. Of course, I too feel in love with Terri - I ad to wait until I went to USC to get me one that looked like her. Awesome song. Richard Blade! Romano and the Blade! MV3 and KROQ, FM 106.7, Rock of the 80's - Forever!
MV freakin THREE! I totally remember this show back in the early 80s. It was on Channel 11, a local independent station in the Dallas Fort Worth area. It came on in the afternoons and remember SEEING acts like Berlin, Bow Wow Wow and Romeo Void. I was 14 (way back in 81) and yeah, we did NOT have cable so MV3 and Friday Night Videos were the only ways to catch anything MTV-like. MAN Blades looks SO young in this video! Thanks for posting!
@obxguy1 Yes. And the reason she still looks so good is because she also happens to be an arrant health-nut ( does yoga, eats only 100% natural organic food,.. etcetera ).
@obxguy1 She is indeed still VERY hot! I think it's a combo of good genes and that she has really taken care of herself with really healthy living and eating.
LA was and is the fusion of all pop culture. In the late 70s and early 80s, LA punk/progressive/surf slammed face first into the new wave synth sound coming from Western Europe. No matter what part of the country the band was from, they came to LA to record if hitting it big. Or, they were already in LA playing the underground club scene. Think Kim Wilde, think Go Gos pre-Vacation, think Repo Man soundtrack, think Missing Persons, more...
I remember this song! It's as nice now as it was then. I remember MV3 also. It use to come on in Detroit on channel 62 WGPR after our local dance show, The Scene (later named The New Dance Show). Those were the days!
this is so futuristic like this is stuff the 2000's trys to make up. but the 2000's just make it sound like nothing but a pile of noisey shit. this is real music!!
I remember hearing this song when I was a kid, it was on a tape my dad had made for me. One of my favorite songs back then. The quality on the video's a little shaky but still, thanks for posting the song. Brings back happier memories for me.
My God....I have to find my Kung Fu slippers and eyeliner... MV3..jesus almost forgot about that. MTV for people who didnt have cabel...which was most!
the sound of the synth in this song has the perfect balance of a warm and cold sound. i don't understand why we ever left analogue synths behind. they were so much more friendly, and less cheap sounding.
Terry Bozio was in Missing Persons. I used to watch this show every day. The iffy video also brings back memories of UHF. I was Berlin in Detroit in 83 or 84. One of the best concerts ever. Costume changes and everything.
hey about um two or three years ago that back together and perform metro the oringinal band got togther after twenty years and well there preform one song this song but it was on;y for about 4 minutes
Too bad SoCal is so commercialized and "pop" oriented now. Nothing like this would ever be shown on local TV out here nowadays. Interesting and cool shit used to come from Cali. Now all there is nasal no talent Gwen Stefani, and whiny rich white boy rock groups who think they have something to say.
this isent exactly how i thought this song would sound. its my first time hearing it. i decided checking it out after hearing the system of a down version. if u havent heard it i suggest you check it out.
Not true! I think you have Terri Nunn mixed up with Dale Bozzio of Missing Persons? I've been trying to catch Berlin or Missing Persons whenever they happen make it to San Francisco, and Dale looks good for having three kids, and Terri is still smoking hot! Terri still tours under Berlin; go see her! Missing Persons are always in talks about touring, but Terry Bozzio will never tour with his ex-wife Dale again; unless a lot of money is thrown their way. He's currently playing with Korn!
On MTV, spring 2007. Show called bands reunite. Members of Berlin were living all over the world. Hadnt seen each other for 20 years. Well, they got them to re unite for one show , in LA. LOts of huggs & tears . They played metro. It was AMAZING, just like the vid here . :-)
Yes, I saw the show, and I think that VH-1 was close to being sued from a couple of approaches that Ahmet (the host) used to get certain bands to reunited; it was shady, and really uneasy for a few groups. Film and video editors have a way of making people seem like the bad guy(s); you need to do this in order to create drama so people will watch it, so the footage is not always true, or fair representation. The Berlin episode was well done.
And I wish I could have been there. I had the opportunity to hang out with the band and John Crawford back in 1986 in San Jose. He was dating a gorgeous redhead model named Julie P. that I knew and she got me in to their backstage area at the club 'One Step Beyond'. I ended up driving John and Julie back to his hotel that night in my 57 VW Bug. Really cool guy! She went on to marrying the lead singer to Death Angel.
Holy Christ on a bike... I remember seeing this as a kid... scared the crap out of me... always assumed it was AB... and I didn't realize Mr Richard Blade was host!
I used to rush home every day during junior high school to watch this show. I found it one day by accident. It was the first time I saw Boy George, Annie Lennox, etc. The dancing and clothes were so cool to me. They look so tame now. I got hooked on this show, but then one day I came home and it wasn't on.
Quiet you! Don't bash our era! Like what girls do with their hair now is so great. All I see is girls trying & rehashing 70's era Farah hair. How unique. :)
I used to watch this after school with my friends. It was a kind of competition between Empty-V on cable; and regular Programming. Yes, it was not easy being a Punk Rocker in the early 80's.
I didn't have cable, either, but Atlanta's Channel 36 was available over the air and featured MV3 in the afternoons after school. I remember seeing this segment, too. Thanks for this.
Typically I dont like this kind of music, but Its jus got that 80s feeling to it. That makes it good. I think the 80s is the one decade where you can hear a song and immediately pin point that it was made during that time.
Yes, it was on channel 9. I have a video of a full MV3 show with commercials and all with the 3 o'clock performing live. I will convert and post in a week or so. Actually, the commercials really are great too!
wow! I'd love to see that! My friends used to dance on this show. I was too chicken. I used to go to Phases in the SF Valley, and a lot of the dancers went there too. Cheers, Tina
Terri is that rare woman who doesn't age!! She's still gorgeous. Man, Los Angelenos had it good. I had to make do without cable or MV3 and rely on Friday Night Videos!
Very early on, Friday Night Videos was good but the it started sucking ass. Here in LA, there was also a video only show (no VJ) that aired late at night on ABC 7. You could tune in your radio to an FM station and listen to the videos in stereo at the same time. Yep, we had it good! :)
thanks for posting ,she looks really good here. i would love to see some in between video bit's w/the beutiful and sexy karen scott.i was after all a young teen when this show aired.
OMG! We look horrible!

I used to rush home every day during junior high school to watch this show. I found it one day by accident. It was the first time I saw Boy George, Annie Lennox, etc. The dancing and clothes were so cool to me. They look so tame now. I got hooked on this show, but then one day I came home and it wasn't on.

Great song! My goodness, the hair! All that back combing and spraying. And what's with the hat? What were we thinking back then?
DismissedZebra 4 years ago
Quiet you! Don't bash our era! Like what girls do with their hair now is so great. All I see is girls trying & rehashing 70's era Farah hair. How unique. :)

I didn't know that was a violin in the solo..was it synthesized?
I always thought it was a regular Synthesizer on that solo.

I used to watch this after school with my friends. It was a kind of competition between Empty-V on cable; and regular Programming. Yes, it was not easy being a Punk Rocker in the early 80's.
jamiekush 4 years ago
I didn't have cable, either, but Atlanta's Channel 36 was available over the air and featured MV3 in the afternoons after school. I remember seeing this segment, too. Thanks for this.

Typically I dont like this kind of music, but Its jus got that 80s feeling to it. That makes it good. I think the 80s is the one decade where you can hear a song and immediately pin point that it was made during that time.

"OK, guys, just stand behind your instruments and blunder around in a somewhat exciting fashion while Terri snogs the camera."

I think it's Rob Brill who replaced Rod Learned.

Does anyone know if that is Terry Bozzio from Missing Persons playing drums on this?
crashsite000 4 years ago
It sure looks like him, but I thought he was with Missing Persons back then. Maybe he did a stand in as a favor.
drkmiller 4 years ago
That's definitely Rod Learned, not Terry Bozzio.

jkygogo 5 years ago
Yes, it was on channel 9. I have a video of a full MV3 show with commercials and all with the 3 o'clock performing live. I will convert and post in a week or so. Actually, the commercials really are great too!
drkmiller 5 years ago
Hi, It would be great if you could post the whole show, would love to see it.
Thanks.
jkygogo 5 years ago
I have posted much of the show and some of the classic commercials now.
drkmiller 4 years ago
Hi, did you tape these 1983 commercials during the MV3 show?
Thanks.
jkygogo 4 years ago

I had to make do without cable or MV3 and rely on Friday Night Videos!
magic8ball2112 5 years ago
Very early on, Friday Night Videos was good but the it started sucking ass. Here in LA, there was also a video only show (no VJ) that aired late at night on ABC 7. You could tune in your radio to an FM station and listen to the videos in stereo at the same time. Yep, we had it good! :)
