  • thanks man!! my guinea pig started squeeking when you started talking. i think he likes you :)

  • HOLY SHIT THAT WAS SO EASY I LOVE YOU!

  • do you have to remote desktop to do this. can you just use do the home share. i have 2 pc's

  • thanks so much, very helpful! and love the accent;)

  • thanks bro it really helped

  • my imac wont let me select all the songs

  • @rokkero564 You've got to make sure that a) you've turned on Home Sharing on BOTH machines and you're logged into the SAME iTunes account, and b) you're two, networked computers are on the same IP range (example 192.160.0.1 and 192.168.0.2). Let me know how you go...

  • @SpannersTV thanks so much i was having such a hard time firguring this out. this really helped me out

  • Thanks dude! Really helped!

  • @brotaziam Glad this could help.

  • Does this method keep all of the itunes data intact - including playcounts, playlists, ratings etc? thanks :)

  • @Jaz31146 I found that the playcount didn't come over. Playlists and Ratings did (Ratings I'm pretty sure are in the metadata of the actual songs).

Let me know if your playcount comes over.

  • How do you select the whole library? My PC wont let me do it.

  • @IsaiahSl9 Make sure you're on the computer you're copying files to. Select the Home Sharing icon of the computer you're copying from, and then click one of the songs. Hold Ctrl + A (PC) or Command +A (Mac).

Let me know if this works for you.

  • iChunes :)

  • @fcsuperhero LOL!

  • why wont my windows 7 pick up my xp

  • @bleepsreviews Make sure that your two computers are on the same IP range. eg one computer is 192.168.0.1 and the other is 192.168.0.2

  • no way...so now i can listen to music anywhere i want since it was copied from my mac to my pc? i don't need to be using same ip address? amazing!!!

  • Oh my god you're my life saver, I have been fighting itunes for the past week. Thank you for making it so simple!!

  • This sounds great but I want to know is when

I copy the files to the new pc can I do the same thing with apps contacts and all the rest of my iPhone data thanks

  • @TheMrtnawrestling provided that you drag across the entire Library, it will move everything over. Apps, music, video, podcasts, the lot. You'll see when you start dragging it will be the outline of a square box. That means you're grabbing all the items in your library. Let me know how you go.

  • Works great, but any way of transferring the playcount over?

  • Thank you so much! I can't believe it was that easy! Haha. :')

  • Thanks this so easy

  • thank you, this is so simple. It actually works unlike other videos that tell you to export the library and all that bs

  • wow home sharing is crazy! thanks for this tut

  • Need a way to transfer the library from one computer to the other. Not only the files (that's easy) I need the unchecked (duplicates) to STAY unchecked. As well as the ratings and play counts to remain the same as well. Right - basically an identical copy from what I have to where I want it. Suggestions? Thanks in advance!

  • @doutol1 Wow! Sounds very specific. Have you tried to transfer your Library over already? Did it not create an identical copy? The duplicates should go over OK. The checked tracks might not, i dunno. Never tried. You may need to look into copying the XML file which would have all the checked/unchecked information on it, then after you've moved your entire iTunes over, pasting the old XML file over the new one. Let me know what happened when you just did what is described in my video.

  • @liberalnsw Transferring the library makes copies. Adding a file to a blank iTunes will by default have that item checked which isn't what I need. I have WAY too many duplicates to go back and uncheck them. Apparently, SUPERSYNC has a function where moving the .xml file will keep everything as is when you transfer it another computer. I'm crossing my fingers. Thanks for your reply!

  • I tried this last night and everything worked great, but playlists did not copy over

  • @searsjim Strange. My playlists went over ok (which was very important to me, I have tonnes of them). Did apps and video come over as well? You might have selected all the music (you may have clicked the Music section when viewing the Home Sharing on the computer your copying TO), but not the entire library. Hope this helps.

  • This worked perfect on my first computer, but my lap top it does not drag into the library, it does nothing. both pc's show itunes on eother screens, what is wrong ?

  • @Messrocks1 You're definitely logged into each computer with the same iTunes account? And your computers MUST be on the same IP range. Have a look at the network IP addresses. They should all be very similar (Computer 1= 192.168.0.1, computer 2= 192.168.0.2, computer 3= 192.168.0.23). If they're not on the same IP range, it will NOT work. I had this problem when I had one computer on the wired network and one on a wireless network. Making all computers wired might work. Let me know how you go.

  • Thanks. That was so easy.

  • i love you voice =)

  • You saved my life! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

  • Simple and Easy thanks

  • damn this is by far the easiest way . thanks dude!

  • how do you select all the tracks?

  • @mickthekindstranger

Go to Edit then Select All.

  • @dagnaris oh rite thanks... wish i hadn't done them one by one now :D

  • Go to Edit then Select All.

  • Go to Edit then Select All.

  • @mickthekindstranger Go to Edit then Select All.

  • i dont fucking get this

  • Thank you!!!

  • If you select all will it automatically select all the movies and apps etc. too?

  • @attk7 I think so, but make sure that you're not just selecting All under a specific type of content (Music, apps etc). Check everything went over and let me know how you go.

  • Thank you sooooooo much!

  • Thanks this helped a ton :)

  • Now does it bring over the playlist as well ??

  • @jessecon5 Yes. It brings everything over except the playcount. But make sure you check everything before you go and format the old computer or anything.

  • you are actually my hero, thank you so much :)

  • how is it so easy? :)

thank you very much, it really helped me :) much appreciated.

  • Thank You!

  • Very very helpful

  • great job!

  • @nachonovo73 Thanks buddy!

  • @SpannersTV how can i transfer my contacts as i would like all itunes including apps and contacts on to my new pc ? what can i do pls help !!

  • @cormacity Good question! Your contacts (as far as I know) don't sit in iTunes. Well, not anywhere that you can export them from. They sit in the email client you use, and iTunes has permission to sync them.

Example: if you use Outlook, you need to export your contacts in Outlook.

You'll probably end up with a CSV file (opens in Excel) which can be imported into the new email client on the new PC.

Let me know if this was helpful.

  • @SpannersTV And if I sync my iPhone to the new computer will everything works normally as to the first computer ? Thanks

  • Like I said earlier it worked perfectly, and thanks a lot. But how come when I connect my iPhone or iPad, it doesn't show on my new iTunes library on my new computer so I can Sync my devices with my new one. Thanks again!

  • @ANTICRUZ Are you on a PC or Mac? If you're on a PC, then the iPad or iPhone might be trying to take the Drive Letter of another device that already is using that Drive Letter. Have a look at the video response "Where's my USB drive?"

Let me know if this fixes your issue.

  • @SpannersTV My original library was on a PC and I recently transferred the library from there to my new Mac. Thanks.

  • @SpannersTV I looked at the other video and my devices, an Iphone and Ipad, are still not showing in my new iTunes library in my new iMac.

  • @ANTICRUZ I'm flat out at the moment, but I did find this: apple.com/support/iphone/assistant/itunes/

Copy and paste the URL into your browser (YouTube doesn't allow hyperlinks in comments I think)

  • all I had to do was delete and re-install Itunes on my new computer! everything I transferred from my old one to new one. and it recognized both my devices (Ipad and Iphone) Thanks again!

  • @SpannersTV all I had to do was delete and re-install iTunes! everything I initially transferred from my old PC to my new Mac (using your method) was already in my new iTunes after re-installing it. Thanks again!

  • Thanks a lot. Worked perfectly.

  • Thank'S!!!!

  • itune

  • Thank you so much I have been looking for this forever

  • It seems weird. There is no apps in my library when shared.

  • @Mazai Sorry, I'm gonna need more info than that. No apps on which computer? You've definitely entered you itunes login details on both computers?

  • 100% usefull thanks!!!

  • Does it also move apps ? And what if you have apps and songs bought from different accounts ??? Me and my sister share iTunes so we purchase things with two different accounts , will it still work ? Also do u have to have the iTunes in the new pc authorized with your account ? I might just do this with and external hard drive lol nice tutorial tho !

  • @chanel393 It moved everything I had in my library: Apps, Podcasts, and Song. The only thing that didn't was the play-count.

Both PCs need to be authorised.

As far as the two accounts thing, I think you'd have to do it one account at a time. So log in with your account on both computers, move everything over, then once you're happy it's complete, log into both computers with your sister's account. Let me know how you go. I'm interested to know.

  • uhh... omg that was so easy? is that a simple enough way of putting it? thank you SOOOO much

  • brilliant!

  • thanks mate :)

  • I LOVE YOU!!! So much more simplar then firewire cable

  • Okay. it copies the library over. but it doesn't copy the actual files. so when i go to play them from the one computer is it playing from the file source on the first computer?

  • @nbaballa Make sure that you've logged into both computers with the same iTunes account. Depending on how many songs/apps/videos you have it will take a long time to copy the files over. So if it didn't take a while, you're just viewing the library across the network connection, you haven't copied the entire iTunes library over. Good luck!

  • thank you so much. you saved me so much hastle worrying about consolidating the music and all the other junk. much better this way with just a few clicks of the mouse neccessary.

    appreciate it!

  • dude you helped me so motherf.... much.... i love you, i love your accent, thx !!! great video!

  • Thx that was soo easy :D

  • does it keep all of your album artwork, ratings, and play counts?

  • @psychogrannies artwork went over on mine, and so did the ratings, because I think that info is saved with the actual song/video file. The play count didn't come over for me.

  • @SpannersTV i just did it and the play count and ratings didnt go over whatever thanks though!

  • good vid thnk you

  • Thank you so much for this video. Made transfer very simple!!!!

  • Thank you so much. I knew there had to be an easier way! I had googled and tried to make sense of apples help pages and as a bit of a computer dummy it all seemed so hard. This is so easy and it works!

  • Does this method keep all your playlists AND play count?

  • @kimmykimk it kept all my playlists, but not my play count unfortunately.

  • Hi can anyone tell me wheter u can transfer ur apps or do u need to. Please respond!!!!

  • Thanks for great tutorial :)

  • DUDE I LOVE U SOOO MUCH!!!

  • such a helpful tutorial. thank you so much

  • thank you so much. such a helpful tutorial

  • Does this work the other way round, from mac to pc?

  • @shellfishandpig sure does. Works either way between Mac and PC

  • @shellfishandpig Absolutely. It works from any platform to any platform.

  • will it work if u have limewire songs

  • Thanks dude. Great video. Very informative. One question though....when you click on something how do you get them circles to come out every time you clik on something?

It looks likes how sound would look. the first one is at the 1:15 mark. Is it in your mac or on your pc?

    cheers,

  • @gxavier666 iShowUHD is the program I use to record the screen on my Mac (PC I use a different one). It has that circles feature for every time I click. There's a trial version, but it's well worth buying it. Best screen capture program out there.

  • Don't want this so sound like a dumb question, but is it okay to delete the files off the pc after you transfer them to the mac? I'd like to use the mac for the itunes/iphone stuff and the pc for non-Apple stuff

  • @GrievanceStriker after you've made sure everything has come across, then yeah! Smack the delete button.

  • thank you, you're a life saver :D

  • worked perfect! thank you Sir!

  • Thanks!! My step dad had to pay sumink like £20- £25 dollars to transfer it, but i can do it for free! lol, Thanks!

  • @19SkaterGeorge96 Sorry Dad! You're offspring is smarter than you. HAHAHHAA. Kidding. Glad I could help out.

  • Holy $h!+! Thanks for posting such an informative and useful video. Seriously, I also looked at videos on Cnet and a ton of other tech sites, with each on of them making it more complicated and time consuming than what you've shown. Even a Mac rep. at the store told me that they weren't allowed to tell customers how to transfer, but for a "small" fee they would take care of transferring the files. Yeah right! Thanks again man!

  • @foxhopper Glad I could help. The Mac store people can be stacks helpful, they definitely know their stuff, but sometimes they have to tow the brand line. Good to see you've turned to the online community for answers.

  • OMFG dude ive been spending hours looking at sites telling me how to get the playlists and such but nothing is ever the right way...thanks thanks thank you so freakin much

  • @trashers4cashers Wow! Grateful much? HAHA! Glad I could help out.

  • @Ryan. It moves all my apps over fine. Let me know how you go.

  • Will this transfer all my applications aswell ?

  • Great vid!! worked perfectly! That was a lot easier than I though it would be. Thanks

  • @lankey All my playlists came across fine. Let me know how you go.

  • Will this work if you don't have a network cuz i'm running currently off a verison wireless card... but the pc's i'm coping from have internet connection (at office)

  • Wow, what you're talking about is giving your computer network credentials from work and then accessing remotely via VPN! AAARRRGGGHHH! Complicated!

Yeah, you need to network your personal computer to your work system.

Best idea is to ask if you can take your computer into work and do it after hours or something. I'm sure your IT dept won't mind. Let me know how you go.

  • your so aussie aye

  • From the mid north coast of Oz.

  • SpannersTV, This video rocks.

  • Thanks.

  • tanks very much

  • wow thank you alot very very helpful

  • thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you

  • I have TV Shows, movies, songs, podcast and vodcasts, and this process moved them all over. You're grabbing the entire playlists of items, not just your music playlists, so you should have no problems. Make sure you check a few items once you've finished copying. This way is still the easiest, painless way to move your library across computers. Let me know how you go.

  • Can you please tell me if it moves all your videos like movies, music videos, and tv shows also? Because I'm getting a new MacBook Pro in two days and I need to do this. Thank you!

And nice video by the way! Love your accent! ;D

  • Go to the computer you're COPYING TO. Using Home Sharing to view the old PC'S playlist, select any one item (Make sure you're in Playlist mode, where you see nothing but a great big list of all your iTunes items, no album covers etc) and press Ctrl+A (PC) or Command+A (Mac). Otherwise, click the very top item once, scroll to the bottom, hold Shift and click the bottom item.

  • how do u select all?

  • thanks :)

  • thanks man!

  • This is exactly what I was looking for...I did not want to deal with flash drives and disks

  • something really easy! thank you

  • THANK YOU! =D

  • WOW thank you so much! i have been looking for hours to find something simple. This definitely did it. Thanks!!

  • Thank you so much! I spent hours trying to figure this out, getting more and more aggrovated. So simple! Thanks!

  • Great, thanks man! Now I have a long wait until my 3000 some songs get transfered.

  • dude ur freaking awesome...this definitely works guys

  • got it running now, thanks. but it is way slower than in your video. i have 1812 songs to move and they are moving at about 1 song per 20 seconds. My question is, once the files are copying, do I need to keep the old PC running or can I shut it down? FOr now, I am keeping it on, but it is noisy and annoying. Thanks.

  • HA! Yeah, I didn't think a 9min 43sec video of the iTunes loader bar ticking over would make a great vid, so I cut that out!

I moved over about 2000 songs, plus apps, vids and podcasts and it took about 20sec to 1min for each item.

I've since formatted my old computer, so once you're happy that all your stuff has moved over (remember, check your contacts if you have an iPhone), it should be fine to turn it off. All your music should now be copied onto the new computer.

  • thank you! this REALLY helped me!

  • hi spanner ive just copied my library but not all my apps transfered over i have 70 apps but only 10 transfered over?

  • 1st, I'll say this. If you or anyone has hacked or jailbroken your iPhone, you're going to get some funky results, so please don't chew me if things go bad.

Now that's done: Your problem could be for a number of reasons. This is what I would do. 1) Sync iPhone to old computer. 2) Does iPhone sync automatically when connected to the new computer? If it does, cancel it soon as it starts. 3) Right click iPhone and select Transfer Purchases.

Please comment back and let me know how this goes.

  • hey spanners, i sorted it mate i just needed to transfer my purchases items over cheers for ur help

  • well this transfer ur apps for ur iphone too?

  • As I mentioned to soundgod07 earlier in the comments (see below), it moved all my apps over fine. Let me know how you go.

  • ok cool sorry i didnt read down. i will let u no how i get on. btw cool vid

  • Hey does this work when using the same computer but on different profiles? I wanna transfer music from another profile to my profile on my computer. or vice versa

  • Wow. Good question. Not sure if it would work, but I would try logging in as your first profile, opening iTunes, then do a Switch User (not Log Off), log into the next user you want to move the iTunes library to, open iTunes again and see if you can see the icon for Home Sharing. Again, I'm not confident this would work, but try it and leave me a comment here and tell me if you succeeded.

  • thank you so much! we immensly appreciate it!

  • awesome job! made it very simple. thanx.

  • That's the way to do it. Simple as!

  • thank you sooo much !!

  • thanks man!

  • Thanks a lot i just got a new mac and wanted my music from my pc to be tranfered to my mac without having to buy a external harddrive, thank you!

  • So far still the easiest way to do it, I say. Hope you're enjoying your new Mac as much as I'm enjoying the change.

  • Thanks man this video helped alot :D

  • thanks for posting

  • Once I transfer all of my itunes library over can I delete the music from my old computer

  • If you can leave it there. I'd leave it there as a nice little backup, but if you're confident you've copied everything over, and you need the space on the old machine, then go for it. Let me know how you go.
