Every shot at the flag pole outside the car you can see the camera guy and sound guy in the reflection of her car. Its very distracing to me. But other then that this was a really cool movie.
Something else that's funny - ours opens with black background and "A Guest House Production." Every time strange coincidences like these happen, it always leads me to start thinking of hidden reasons. I wonder if everyone else does that? :)
As an aside, I love this kinda thing. In a way a story about 2 separate groups of people making similar films with some of the same elements is equally interesting to a story about a woman realizing she is no longer living. : )
Maybe I will send you a PM and see if there is a way we can get a DVD of your film... I really am dying to see it. : )
The cat is named Loki and thats one of his "spots" we couldn't get him to move so we got him to sign a release and put him in the film. : )
You may find this funny, we have been trying to figure out why there was a film festival in Gainesville that we were unaware of... It just didn't seem very likely as it is a somewhat small town. But then speaking with a friend last night she reminded us that there is a Gainesville in Florida. heh.
Surprisingly, the similarities are more than striking. Opening scene packing, saying goodbye to the cat, front shot of the house, car... I've been unable to upload it to youtube because of it's length, unfortunately. I know it's not a new concept to use a dead character, it was just weird insofar as the sequencing. I realize there are things such as odd coincidence, though.
I worked on Coda and I have never seen your film. Your use of ALL CAPS (shouting) indicates that you feel we were copying you. We were not. As murdockscott states in the previous comment, sometimes good ideas crop up more than once. It's not like we invented the concept of the main chararacter being dead the whole time -- ever seen "Sixth Sense?" Hehe. From the description of your film on substreamfilms, it sounds like there are some similarities... but exactly the same? Really?
I was one of the main people that pitched the story on our small 3 person team. I can say with complete honestly that I have never seen your film. I feel from the tone of your post that you think that we had.
Sometimes good ideas pop up more than once... because they are good ideas, not due to nefarious intent.
I would like to see your film. I doubt it is exactly the same. But I bet I would like it... great minds and all. Good luck to you and trust me... It's a coincidence.
A friend and I made this exact film - THREE YEARS AGO, called Memorial Highway. It even showed at the Gainesville Film Festival. I guess imitation really IS the greatest form of flattery.

Know what's even weirder? Just as I was reading the below Pandora started playing the opening song to Memorial Highway. Now THAT is weird.
And here I didn't even know there was a Gainesville, Texas.
