He has a higher PPGA, he was a better leader Bowmen will even admit this in fact he was often adamant that Yzerman was never a great leader, he was more of a clutch player and I've never heard Sakic say anything about Yzerman being the better player.
Comparing Yzerman, Messier, Sakic, Gretzky, or Lemieux to Crosby is absurd. Those guys played in the golden era of hockey. Is Crosby a good player? Sure. But will he ever match up to Gretzky? No. The closest one to be the "The Next One" is Ovechkin hands down.
Stevie Y was the player every other hockey player should aspire to be. Talent, class, leadership, and sportsmanship. Through the good years and the bad years with the Wings, he always remained very humble. Truly one of the good ones. Thanks for all the great memories Stevie!

Anyone who thinks Yzerman was better than Joe Sakic is more retarted than Gary Betman (let's face it he is a dumbass) Joe Sakic could PWN the sh*t out of Yzerman. better PPG average. 100 less points in 200 less games. scored 100 points when he was 39, was in 13 allstar games in 19 years. yzerman was in 10 in 22, won a cup 4 years after being named captain, took yzerman 11. yzerman was also a pussy in his first 5 or 6 years when Joe showed class for all 19 of his years. yzerman 4 trophys sakic 7

Sorry but Cindy Crosby will be no where near as great as Steve Yzerman. Sure Stevey Y cried alot in his early years, but Crosby is no where near the leader Yzerman is. Malkin is better than Crosby......that tells you alot about the team. They won't even make playoffs this year.

This is what being a captain in the NHL is all about.
For those who wonder why people say Cindy Crosby isn't classy, or doesn't deserve the spotlight he receives THIS is why.
You have epic players in the NHL both now and in the past. This guy, Steve Yzerman is what every player should want to aspire too.
This video could go on forever, and that is why Stevie Y is EPIC and not just great.

@makemyaday No, I've never seen this list your talking about. Sakic was better. He has a higher PPGA, he was a better leader Bowmen will even admit this in fact he was often adamant that Yzerman was never a great leader, he was more of a clutch player and I've never heard Sakic say anything about Yzerman being the better player.

Comparing Yzerman, Messier, Sakic, Gretzky, or Lemieux to Crosby is absurd. Those guys played in the golden era of hockey. Is Crosby a good player? Sure. But will he ever match up to Gretzky? No. The closest one to be the "The Next One" is Ovechkin hands down.

Stevie Y was the player every other hockey player should aspire to be. Talent, class, leadership, and sportsmanship. Through the good years and the bad years with the Wings, he always remained very humble. Truly one of the good ones. Thanks for all the great memories Stevie!

the whole sakic and yezerman talk A) look at the number of cups? B) ask people outside det and COL what do you think of when you say number 19 and hockey 90% of people first think yezerman then sakic C) look at pionts and goals? over a life time in the game..... game over yezerman wins..... not saying sakic blew or sucked or all of that but as far as the better #19 yezerman for sure

You can't really compare hockey players... every hockey player has a different ability and different way on approaches things.. so people stop trying to compare.. we know the hockey players that are great and are going to be great! we all know stevey Y. is one of them!

funny how i see history repeat. the new yzerman is Jonathan Toews in Chicago, the New Gretzky is Sidney Crosby and the new mario is Ovechkin with his body and strength and pure skill putting up numbers. just my take on that haha

@Zefrof17sure he is..no one is better in the game..and if you dont see that..then you need to stop watching hockey and do something else with your time..he will be in time..you can be sure of that. Crosby scored the goldwinning gold in the olympics, won a stanleycup as captain, ( could have been a two time champion by now if red wings didnt have such great older talent like lidstrom and Brian Rafalski.) he has 100 points in all but one campain (foot injury) wake up man..he will be "the next one"

114points differential with 2 seasons less would require sakic to need an average of like 62 points a season for 2 seaons to achieve 1755 points very easy for a person who could nail 90-115, yes his plus minus would not be as good, now bring into factor Sakic was a super clutch player finished with the most overtime goals scored i believe not to mention like 5 points in the final Olympic game, though there is no comparing they are both elite and any club would love to have them as the C

Good old Steve Yzerman!!!! A true Red Wing and definitely one of the better HL players ever. He has always been hard and a real grinder.

@slipdude209 I don't know what is going on with them man... I really don't... Brodeur is getting old he's 38 & starting to show his age... The Devils over the years have lost the core of their once SOLID DEFENSE - Scott Stevens retired... Scott Niedermayer left... Brian Rafalski went to Detroit.... etc... the Devils are a team in transition... 10-27 is absolutely horrible... this coming from a team that has dominated the East for years... They won the Division last year is really bad man...
