  • and thats the way the cockie crumbles:}

  • looks like mexico

  • nice ending

  • DAME NATURE YOU SCARY!

  • eating the ears of a rabbit, who know! Omniverouis insects.

  • wow, imagin in the start of the video and all those bugs 500x bigger

  • the bguining is like china, but with crickets

  • lol, she said diet p 1:30

  • DDT would wipe these mormons from the face of the earth

  • omg this would be like a nightmare for me

  • that's why you should build a moat around your crops and fill it with frogs.

  • I would love to see them cross an area capented by big Venus Flytraps....

  • it doesn't look like the crickets tasted each of those plates and decided to eat the one that is saltier or whatever. it could be those following crickets just jumped in those plates which were crowded. there is no guarantee that the crickets knew the taste of their liking. this experiment is flawed.

  • Crickets are not capable of deductive reasoning, dear Watson...

(They cannot surmise that a crowded area means food.)

  • not necessarily for food.

crickets are colonial like ants. thats what i meant, dear einstein.

  • Oh daym man u just laid it out man shiitz i read dat and i was like oh no he didnt. Wow man u laid it out like hotcakes. Swo if i was Jasonguyperson i would beat yo ass for such an insult mayne.!

  • they aren't colonial, colonial insects don't mass migrate for fear of cannibalism. (I understand this is an old post, i just couldnt leave it alone.... so flip and wrong at the same time)

  • they should use road kill and toss it on to the primiters of the crops and when their all good and feeding tourch the dead animal thus killing the crickets

  • Cricket surplus - salt - protein = Plague

  • holy shite never heard of mass cricket migration! lookit all them poopits!

  • but a cooked cow smothred with salt, and these bitches should be satisfied.

  • devouring ears

  • See! This is why we need to eat more ice cream! It has no salt and no protein! So the crickets don't eats us!

    :]

  • lol

  • That is a shitload of crickets.

  • they eat each other, other dead insects and (a suprise to me) aparently rabbits ears.

  • I think they prefer to be called later day saint crickets not mormon crickets.

  • LOL!!!!!

  • flying spaghetti monster compels you

  • Looks like a good place for a flame thrower.

  • or a giant can of bug spray.

  • Rabbit caught me off guard. I lay in front of my laptop on my bed..

  • me too

  • how do u do the big guy in the picture?

  • do crickets eat meat?? anyone?

  • hmmm, well, i don't know about that... after all the video only said they eat EACHOTHER!!!

unless you want to argue that crickets are vegetables, i think thats proof right there.

  • Thanks gubgub. I wasn't quite sure. I know locusts are flesh eating varmints, but wasn't sure if crickets were too.

  • Lmao

"unless you want to argue that crickets are vegetables"

    LOL

  • cricket kabobs

  • damn!thats some fat crickets!

  • LMAO

  • thats how ppl might be after a singularity... you know, that special point on an event horizon?

  • Interesting and respectable research.

Now we just need seagulls to go with those Mormon crickets!

  • Eating crickets is the only positive thing that seagulls do.

  • Shit get a bomb and blow them up!

  • A few bags of peanuts should be sufficient

  • Similarly, law school is driven by coffee, protein, and cannibalism

  • rofl

  • @superfisto good one

  • Fascinating! All of the crickets I've kept as pets have been enthusiastic about eating pieces of meat provided for them.

  • I would burn the bastards. Send the army in!!!

  • science is so awesome

  • Nature; so beautiful :*-)

  • Uplifting!

  • Wow, I never could imagine that a whole population of insects would migrate so they won't get eaten by each other. Such a simple explanation, but still mind boggling.

  • Well, if the other person is dead already, why not?

  • Well i was pretty busy eating your mom last nite. If you know what i mean ;)

  • I agree, but stay away from the diseased ones!

  • Interesting research. These videos are awesome.

  • Why did the cricket cross the road? To get to the dead jackrabbit.

  • I love the way these videos usually end on a weird note expressed in a matter-of-fact way as if it's ho-hum and so normal as not to be worth even an inflection in the voice.

...and then the crickets eat the jackrabbit's ear, ho-hum.

  • On that note, Wonka: My fiancée once read from a text about the pits they used to bury the dead in during the black plague. It detailed how they'd be put down in layers with soil between each, then ended with "Just like when you make lasagna!"

Same sort of thing. Gave me a giggle, so thanks for pointing that out. ^_^

  • we got to take them out how cares if they get exstiket there ugly and they will eat any thing run runnnnnnnnn

  • Can has more than one wife?

  • Catholic crickets only devour the young males of their own species, and tend to survive longer.

  • Mormon cickets. TOTALLY makes sense. Thousands of annoying bugs that wont shut up all heading one direction, killing each other when necessary. Nice.

  • Wow, that is remarkable. A very well done experiment overall.

Pretty interesting how the simple act of looking for food and running away from being eaten causes the entire population to migrate in the direction of food XD

  • I like these videos of NewScientist, you'll learn something every day :)

  • Nice! That opening and ending sound is really getting into my nerves

  • yeah, no kidding

  • Damn I was eating while I was watching that video....

  • Interesting video.. But 'Mormon' crickets? hahha lmao..
