  • Thank you for posting this. I have seen a lot of documentaries on this subject and this is the best. Being the most factual documentary I've seen, it is no mystery why it has generated so many negative votes. You must be doing something right :^ )

    Thank-you!!!

  • @wmarclocher This was originally an episode of PBS's American Experience titled The Monkey Trial you find more information by googling mokey trial american experience pbs

If you would like to purchase a copy you can find one here:

it will be the first hit you get when clicking on 'shopping'

Sorry but this dialog box throws an error when you try to put in a url

  • Hey, great videos, I just watched all of them. Can the uploader please respond to me and tell me what the name of this is and where they got it from so I can reference it in my school work?

  • @richard4president It's called "Monkey Trial: Evolution, Creationism and Free Speech in Court"

It was produced by the Nebraska ETV Network. Directed by Christine Lesiak

  • @djarm67 Thanks a ton!

  • The movie of this trial is one of the turning points in my life when I was young, for I understood that it wasn't one or the other by themselves that created the universe, but both religion and science together, with religion from the vertical perspective and science from the horizontal, prove the existence of God and created the universe

  • @rm2ken the movie was a sham.

  • . . . continued from previous post - I thoroughly enjoyed watching your 8 part Scopes Monkey Trial videos. I'm actually learning more from your videos than I have ever learned when I was in school. Thank you very much. I'm sorry that there are more people down-thumbing your videos than those who like them. I give all your videos a thumbs up! I have also added to my Favorites on my own channel! I love these videos! Keep up the good work!

  • @ djarm67 - Yes, I remember seeing the movie, Inherit The Wind many years ago. The movie was actually an inaccurate depiction of the Scopes Trial. In the movie, William Jennings Bryan was depicted as believing that the earth was only 6000 years old, while in reality, he had no problem accepting an age of millions of years. He only rejected Evolution. So he was actually An Old Earth Creationist and not a New Earth Creationist as depicted in the movie. . . Continued in next post . . .

  • alright if people don't believe in evolution, fine.

but don't teach it in public schools. its unconstitutional, the church and state has to be separated.

  • @overblast0000

why can't we teach both and let them decide for themselves OR not teach it at all

favoring one side isnt right i agree im Christian but think no one thing should be taught let them believe what they wanna believe so again either teach both or none don't be partial to one or the other

  • @edisonphonographfan Because giving creationism/intelligent design and evolution equal time in the classroom implies that they are equally scientifically credible. They are not. There is a wealth of physical evidence supporting evolutionary theories, whereas creationism and intelligent design have only holy books and speculation. Religion is not science, and does not belong in a science classroom.

  • @Getsius

ahh im not argueing with you i know im right in my mind dont try and stir up a arguement that has been over for a month

  • @edisonphonographfan : "...i [sic] know im [sic] right in my mind..."

Ah. Then argument would be useless anyway. I wish you the best, and hope you'll open your mind in the future.

  • @Getsius

can you just leave me the fuck alone?

you wouldnt be such a smartass if you werent hiding behind your computer screen

  • @edisonphonographfan I'm sorry, I was completely sincere. I wouldn't react with such vitriol to a missionary leaving me with "God Bless" or "Christ be with you," so why so upset? (The [sic]s were perhaps a little mean, and I apologize for them.) I would be content to leave this discussion off, but I don't want you to think I bear you any animosity.

  • I wonder why there are so many "dislikes", this was a really good documentary!

  • Darrow an American hero. Eloise a sad old woman who should be ashamed.

  • @HugoBossUnzipped

and you think you're any better for judging religion? you're not

whats wrong with her believing what she wants to believe? nothing

whats wrong with Darrow believing what he wants to believe? nothing

    god bless you

  • Really interesting. Especially the background about how the trial was staged to promote Dayton. I guess Dayton Ohio has Kim Deal.

  • Many may say you can't prove creation but there's no proof we change over a period of time I speaking from my own experience I know one thing that god is real god has really touch me and we you feel the spirit on you there's not better people have the right to believe what they want and I would not try to condem anyone that's my place I don't believe in evolution at all not a bit but it's from my own experiences in life that I believe what I do

  • You all should read "Bryan's Last Speech". You can find it on the internet.

    .

I think Darrow was a thoroughly loathsome human being. He was the lawyer that defended "Leopold and Loeb" - the notorious child murderers of the 1920s.

    .

Darrow had no soul and no moral compass whatsoever. ANYONE who treated a fellow prosecutor with such contempt during a trial and acted that way in a courtroom should have been Dis-Barred for life.

  • @ThoughtTraveler

Um... Darrow was defending "Leopold and Loeb" so they would have a fair trial and so he could save them from the death penalty... that's not a moral and defendable act? Really?

He KNEW they would be found guilty. Were you paying attention while you were watching this? sheesh

  • @reliableNference

Um...What if it was YOUR child that "Leopold and Loeb" killed?

    .

Why do you defend Child Killers?

    .

Do you think it is OK to kill Children?

    .

What part of Killing a Little Boy do you find Captivating?

  • 100 yrs later and ppl still doubt evolution.....could it be they are using the chimpanzee part of the brain.........

  • @moondoggie1327

    Prove Evolution then?

    .

    We are waiting....

  • @ThoughtTraveler

Haha, dramatic much? Why would you infer that I think it's OK to kill children, much less find it captivating? As an American, I believe everyone deserves a fair trial, no matter what the crime might be. "Leopold and Loeb" were found guilty, but spared the death penalty because of Darrow's defense. So what exactly is your problem with that? You're the one who called Darrow immoral, so let me spell it out for you,HE STOPPED THEM FROM BEING KILLED BY THE DEATH PENALTY Exod. 20:13

  • it covers a lot of ground pretty fairly given time restraints - quite good!

  • Why cant people get it through their monkey heads that evolution is real?

  • @kenleemar

because its an opinion not right or wrong

  • @edisonphonographfan Evolution is an opinion the same way the Earth is round is an opinion.

  • @kenleemar

yes we cant prove it its our choice to believe in it or not

  • @kenleemar

No, it's based on scientific observation. The Earth is round because we've observed it from space. Observation my fellow man is the key to science, not blind belief.

  • @wtfsob123456 Actually observations is only one part of it. The most important part of science is coming up with testable hypotheses.

  • Why is it only rated two stars? Is someone or a group trying to rate it down?

  • A SUPERB, multi-faceted, objective, enlightening documentary. Emmys, Peabodys, Nobel Prizes!

    :-)

  • Hear, hear! Someone ought to nominate this for an emmy.

  • you are absolutly correct - but why so few stars??

  • darwin > bible

    reason > faith

good job on posting a meaningful documentary

  • really helpfull for my project!

  • i loved the documentary if you have another one of these kinds plese post them

  • As a Christian, I have to admit that this documentary was actually more accurate and fairly balanced than I first thought it would be.

  • In "Kenneth Miller evolution and faith" (watch?v=Xj7WA1tzuAs) you can see a humorous report of the recent Dover trial on almost the same issue.

  • Thank you for posting all of these. I truly appreciate it.

  • Excellent documentary, thanks very much for posting it! 5/5
