I always used to get in fights with my firends in school about our favorite segments for fantasia. Even though i'm a girl I always loved Night on Bald Mountain and Rite of Spring while all my girl friends loved Pastoral Symphony. psh they just didn't know the good stuff lol
One of my favourite segments from Fantasia, and it has a special childhood meaning for me. In music theory class, the girls all wanted to see the Pastoral Symphony, while me and the other boys wanted to see the Rite of Spring. This is a powerful segment in its own right, beautiful and visceral. Also nice to see a down-to-earth representation of dinosaurs in a cartoon, and back in the conservative 40s at that!
@swimicus This was made in the 40's... this is all they knew about dinosaurs at the time and as such it is as accurate as it possibly could have been.
When the land is shifting around it sounded like some kind of machine and I thought that was what it was. I thought a giant machine was coming out of the ground. But give me a break, I was little.
5:00 most scariest Scene of disney ever made, ever. Maybe only secunded by night at the bald mountain, of Fantasia too.
Damn, the old times when disney wasn't 100% correct and polite, but surely was 100% awesome (I started interesting by dinosaurs the day I saw this scene, when I was 8 or so).
My God this frightened the living daylights out of me when I was a kid, y'know, hiding behind the sofa 'til it wasn't scary any more, that kind of frightened
I remember back as a kid, I was frightened of that T-Rex but at the same time I loved dinosaurs and I was also interested. Awesome feeling. Fantasia's awesome! :)
12:38 video: 1940 animated film Fantasia segment with music The Rite of Spring by Igor Stravinsky; lead animator for climatic dinosaur fight was Wolfgang Reitherman (June 26, 1909 – May 22, 1985).
you want to know what i like about this segment? the animation was made about 30 or 40 years before the land before time, and it still looks good! that, and dinosaurs are awesome.
I muted this and rewound it back to 4:50, then played "Eye of the Tiger" over it from when the T-rex appears to when he kills the stegosaurus. Had to be done! Poor steggie, though.
I honestly don't believe a predatory dinosaur would have ever decided to aim it's head anywhere NEAR a Stegosaurus's tail. I call that reckless and suicidal.
@2nDoppelganger We've raped and smashed CGI into the earth, enough is enough. this shit was godly. if only the two could exist in harmony, but now everything is fricking controlled by computer graphics. To quote Duke Nukem; "This really pisses me off."
It's hard for me to pick a favorite Fantasia sequence, but this one is definitely up there. I wanted to be a paleontologist as a child, and this part always encouraged me and helped me keep that excitement. That dream has, even so, fallen by the wayside, but I still love dinosaurs and this bit of animation will always be special to me. Thanks for the upload.
@sarahewright9 I think we all share a special enthusiasm for this piece. Out of all of my Fantasia uploads, this is by far the most popular. Thanks for the comment.
@sarahewright9 This, and the land before time 1, I tell you right before Jurrassic Park in 1992 as a six year old kid I was stricken with dino-fever. models, toys you name it I sought it. I first saw this when I was five. 1991. man, those were kickass days. to bad I can never return to them
08:34 those dinosaurs are ended up of dying on Starvation and Dehydration on the brink of extinction.
08:40 just like the Edmontosaurus died of Starvation and Dehydration.
08:48 those Stegosaurs and Apatosaurs are dying of by the heat exhaustion by getting trapped in the mud.
09:19 The Allosaurus died and fallen on the ground of Starvation and Dehydration and finally at 09:50 all the dinosaurs all died, the skins rotten away left behind is the remaining dinosaur bones.
I'm surprised people still refer the predator as T-Rex. Hasn't anybody noticed that thats an Allosaurus. Its got three fingers. T-Rex has two. But i understand cuz during the time this was made, Allosaurus wasn't discovered.
@jango3 Allosaurus would have made more sence, because-according to the evolutionary model this vid follows, T. Rex & Stegosaurus didn't exist at the same time, but Allosaurus & the same did. Steg & Big Al were of the Jurrasic , T. Rex was of the Cretacious
@jango3 Coincidently I pointed that out to my mom and dad when I first saw this. its a freaking allosaurus. they never figured that out till they had me as a kid.
Oh come on, in real life that t-rex would have been fucked after taking those spikes to the face the first time. I mean look! Those are three foot long spikes!
@WalDemento999 that is because Disney was amazing and put all of their soul into their work... Sigh something that i feel they have been lax in as of late.
still prefer having the original music ^^
