@rasflorax What do you want to play rasflorax? Just by yourself? with others? Do you want to play live? What kind(s) of music are you looking at playing?
@rasflorax Easy enough. If you want really good audio you can use a simple mic set up and run it through a 4 or 8 channel mixer. If you don't care much about the audio you can use one room mic or a camera with a decent microphone. If you want to spend some money or you have access to it; get a TD 8 (or higher) Roland kit and run it through garage band (or other recording program) using a stereo cable. I use a Roland TD 20 in my rehearsal space and it is a great set. You can run an ipod directly.
If you have Apple/Mac just use Garage band for basic mixing. Or if you want more sophisticated software Logic . If you are using P.C. Cakewalk or Pro-tools basic versions are good for what you are looking to do. There are also some free / limited versions online. All will do the basic functions. Most importantly: make sure you have good sounds to the board. Mixing should be reserved for minor level adjustments and such in traditional recording. But experiment and have fun!
Jeff, are you running it through a P/A ? If you are not going to record, what are you looking to do? For simple mic'ing, Audix makes an impressive and fairly affordable set up for a basic 5 piece kit. But depending on what you want to do, will determine the set up. If you are just trying to compete with amps in a jam room, I would suggest going the other way, by having the guitars turn down and level the sound. Start with the lows and bring the highs into the mix.
what do i need to have mics on my kit...i know i need mics but can i just buy a mixer that has ports for the mic cables and the mixer i found has an amp in it so could i just use what i described and it will work or if not what else to i need. i dont want to record the music to my computer just want my drums to sound good for my own special reasons....just to jam with my friends.. thanks
