@LiangVids it would totally handle it, but if your going to ride stuff like whistler you really need to get a triple crown fork, I had the bighit 2 2009 and I got a boxxer and its like night and day now

@matteussecondus There are some hardcore hardtailers who ride Whistler but I think you would have more fun on a full suspension bike. I've ridden the bike park on a freeride and downhill bike and had a way better ride on the beefier downhill bike. Hope this helps.

I was no expert, but I was riding stuff I'd only ever dreamed of. There's so much at so many skill levels on the right bike for the terrain that you can make really fast progress.

i love videos of whistler. are there all types of skill levels trails there or is it more or less for the more experienced rider. I've ridden bikes all my life but nothing advanced. In ohio, and most of our trails are pretty flat. Looking to take a mountain bike vacation but don't want to waste the money if the all the trails are way above my level.
I do a lot of stuff like this on my hardtail, but it definetly would help if you had a full suspension bike. But like I said, I really doubt its mandatory... but i also have an uncle who has done some of the trails here on a fully rigid 29er a few times.
@SnowboardPowder no avid are good and light but believe me they fail in the very last moment if you don't bleeding it almost weekly the best brands are shimano and hope they don't have such problems as avid

If you are just starting out I suggest you cheaper to midrange ($300-700) Cross Country bike to get used to riding on dirt rather than pavement, and check out some of the local trails in your area first. You should get som expeience before you jump into stuff like this.
