  • Netrebko was thin and pretty only 9 years ago! She has not been able to sing a High E flat for the past 3-4 years.

  • grandiosa... forse anche meglio che a salzburg.

  • She is the ideal opera singer of her moment.

  • Onstage, she is even more vibrant, a commanding presence with a remarkable voice and an ability to connect with her audience.

  • in 2003 she sang much better, than now..

  • amazing:)

  • se le fue un gallo en el si b!!!!

  • très jolie voix! <3

  • Anna is as good as callas, caballe, Sutherland, trebaldi and better than others. She must be tired after this great performance. May she live forever.

  • I like her better here than in Salzburg... she's more relaxed, more confident in her technique, and somehow more comfortable with the acting she chooses to do. Maybe it was the staging??? Either way, this is some of her best work and I like her approach to this role.

  • This brings me to a different level!

  • Took all my doubts away of her being the best of the singers I have ever heard, and what's more she is a beauty of the first order and a convincing actress. Excuse me while I listen to the rest of her works you

have allowed me to hear. Many, many THANKS !

    TUBERNER

  • This is so therapeutic to listen to.

  • I Like

  • elle est vraiment faite pour ce rôle: la voix, le physique, tout y est.

  • One thing I've never liked is the lack of dynamics. That's something these roles in particular call for, am I right? I wish she had focused her career around the Russian repertoire. I loved her in all the Prokofiev operas but she doesn't do those anymore.

  • @DarkbloomVivian

Didn't you hear all her beautiful piani ? Or what exactly do you mean by "lack of dynamics".

  • Terribly!!!

  • Why is R. Fleming not part of the contest?

  • this is soo awsome!

  • this is her best so far...

  • this song, a personal favorite, never gets old for me.

  • not bad not bad not bad at all :):):)!!!!!

  • Why silence at 8.43?

  • @Bjordan87 some divas don't sing that :), e.g. Dame Joan :)

  • @Bjordan87 cuse there is silent in the part

  • @Bjordan87 and also so she could breathe.

  • @Bjordan87 She omitts one bar, to prepare for the high e flat. Many singers do so, but Callas for instance rejected this code of praxis, and I think, it ruins the tension they've built up before!

  • I've to translate this phrase of numetutelare: "her B flat is always a an half D."

Yes, or she invented a new musical scale, or she wants to convince us that the greatest soprano of XX-XXI century is always a minor-sixth flat.

These are Italian "Opera experts". May be this is the reason because Italy is the last musical country in the world?

    STUDY SOLMIZATION, ASSHOLE !!!

  • surprised by anna in this... didnt like the slowed tempo but I thought she was pretty good hear am usually not a fan

  • CharlotteinWeimar... Ottima risposta.

  • Oh I didn't know that you meant mentioning particular names as 'arguments'. And I've seen a lot of people express their both like and dislike without citing 'facts.' Some people just understand what they're reading without needing to get the facts, because they have a background. Why aren't you demanding that people cite 'arguments' and 'facts' when they like something? Expressing an opinion is not an 'argument' as I've already mentioned.

  • @piax00 I'm not talking about music theory at all, I am talking about listening to music and different people and understanding the entire opera and how verdi composes music. Callas' interpretation is one of the tops, Anna Moffo's is up there, Freni is wonderful, even though her voice is not proper for it, Olivero's was just amazing in terms of technique, it gave me the chills, Tebaldi's may have been too heavy for it, she had to transpose it down.

  • @piax00 There are countless others who have done a better job, even Netrebko has done a better job than this video. A singer sings differently on different nights. Be rational -- most opinions are based on facts and no one owes you an 'argument' or 'fact' when they are expressing an opinion. Learn about social behavior. This is just a forum, not a classroom, or a panel for a dissertation.

  • If you don't like Netrebko, that is your right. Please present valid arguments and back up your arguments with facts if you're going to express your dislike! Some of you are just blasting her without presenting credible arguments.

  • @arpeggio1358 just read the score, listen to the tempo of this rendition and to how this aria has been performed and interpreted by countless genius sopranos, maestras, etc. Read books about this aria. I am not 'arguing', so I don't need to present 'arguments'. I am basing my impressions on what I know. And I never said I don't like Netrebko. I think she was smashing in another production of La Traviata in Austria, she is a great actress with lots of charisma and energy and electricity.

  • @piax00 The main thing in singing is if it MOVES YOUR HEART as a listener or not! Reading the score and countless books written about how great singers of the past sang it and how somebody thinks it should be sung isn't so important at all. Many people can not even know what notes mean and how to read them to FEEL the music as it's PRACTICE and NOT THEORY! It's your right if you don't like Netrebko in this aria. But for us to understand your point of view you should find better MUSICAL ARGUMENTS

  • @piax00 You only say what Netrebko does wrong. But who in your opinion sings this aria absolutely right and why? Any names? Otherwise it's not a constructive criticism, just like :"She is terrible here because I don't like it"! And whom do you like?

  • @arpeggio1358 I just think her singing of certain, a lot of repertoire, in fact, leaves much to be desired. And in this particular production in this video, I just don't think it is being done right. Some conductors will allow this change in tempo; obviously the one is Austria did not.

  • @piax00 In Austria???? It was performed in St.Petersburg in 2003, conducted by Valeriy Gergiev who knew millions times better then you (asshole) how to perform La Traviata!

  • @spqrmor You never saw Netrebko and Villazon at the 2005 Salzburg Festival? What kind of Netrebko fan are you? You're missing out and that makes you a million times an a_hole. Not only are you ignorant of grammar and opera, you are even ignorant about the singer you are trying to defend. You are truly pathetic and foul-mouthed, you are not just an a_hole that you think other people are, you are what comes out of it, and not just digested food.

  • @piax00 Of course I saw her production with Villazon in Salzburg, but you bash her on this particular video which was recorded in 2003 at Mariinsky. And you are not "the people", speak only for yourself. You're just little lap-dog trying to bite an actrees. You may barking until you got tired.

  • @arpeggio1358 I couldn't agree more with you here! People can't explain what they don't like and just write too much saying practically nothing...

  • this is mangling a score to make up for a lack of skill, or for singing the wrong repertoire.

  • @piax00 I wonder how much shit you swallowed before exposing to the whole world your negative energy with your shitting of the great soprano? Well, well five lousy stupid and ignorant comments! I don't give a flying fuck for what you hiss here reptile! She follows the score as it was written in the origin asshole. Her coloratura is brilliant and agile looser. She's great actress beyond your bloody moronic understanding yokel! Go to hell ignorant moron!

  • puh leeze

  • no need to mangle verdi to give meaning to the aria. the meaning is already there, no need to change tempo, or change the whole texture altogether. it only 'cheesifies' it; there is an illusion that this is modernizing. sorry this is wrong. this is taking way too much liberty with the score. it is taking liberty to cast her in this role in the first place; she is not a coloratura. a score should not be mangled to suit the voice type. this is 19th century italian, not 20th century french.

  • very heavy. better watched than heard.

  • Comment removed

  • no. no.

  • I don't know what everyone is on about. the high D/E flat sounded good to me.

  • Thank you @omo5oshun5. My thoughts exactly, and you managed to say it without the dozen or so four letter words I may have angrily hurled at the cretins!

  • i love the laugh

  • 8:51....the best

  • It never ails to amaze me that people sit on their computers all day long and critize people who been working hard to master their craft, if you have nothing nice to say then say nothing to choice was yours to listen

  • Very creditable job and good acting. I like the darker colors of her voice and FYI, this isn't a recording - it's a live performance! Part of the thrill is in the execution and sometimes we have a bit of trouble (that's a high D by the way). It's not where you're going but how you get there. She's an exciting and watchable performer, with an interesting and darker timber to her voice and excellent color dispersion across the entire register. Bravo!

  • @leslielandberg Sta parlando delle Ponselle vero??? :-))

  • Mehhh...nothing special. No offense, but I am sure she has made a career more on the fact that she is very pretty and a good actress, than because of her singing. Her tones are not pure at all and that final high tone is pretty risky don't you think?

  • She shouldn't have tried to reach that high Eb. Just like caballe, she didn't because she didn't feel confident.

  • Isn't Sutherland her mentor before?

  • That was R. Scotto.

  • In this particular aria, Netrebko is better than Sutherland.

  • Although I prefer Sutherland in this role, this is quite beautiful.

  • Elle est excellente!

  • Beautiful! Violetta is my favorite role from her.

  • My favorite aria of all....La Traviata

  • su voz claramente desarrolló un matiz bastante especial, aunque veo que le cuesta un poco manejar la respiracion...nada que un profesor o una tecnica no puedan arreglar ;D

  • PURTROPPO LA NETREBKO NON HA MAI AVUTO QUESTI GRANDI SOVRACUTI...X QUESTO E MEGLIO KE SI ATTENGA ALLO SPARTITO ED EVITI FIGURACCE...GRANDE ARTISTA X L AMOR DI DIO...MA I SOVRACUTI IN QUESTO MODO ORRIBILE SAREBBE MEGLIO EVITARLI!

  • The whole aria seems so effortless, but the high E flat......not so effortless

  • @andreea94a Dearie, it was Eb at the end. I guess not many singers can hit it nowadays especially in this complicated aria.It 's rather easier to be judgmental like you then to be respectful and open-mineded.Have a good day!

  • @spqrmor Eb means E flat dearie. And I appreciated the entire rendition of the aria ,except the E flat.Excuse me for having an opinion

  • @andreea94a I see you didn't listen to her live performance of the piece...sorry.I'm happy for your appreciating the entire rendition at least.

  • she was born for Traviata

  • @starmezzo she's just beautiful and has a beautiful voice, but her technic isn't the best

  • @starmezzo It's because she's hot and some youtube fanatics are all hot and bothered over some affair with a bastard piglet.

  • @starmezzo Are you serious? Anna "swallows the sound" ? - and the rest of your delusions??? Please do not make a fool of yourself and shut up, - you obviously have no clue, moron!

  • No sé, pero me gusta más María Callas....no creo que alguien la pueda igualar.....

  • I say goodbye to these pages of Anna Netrebko. I am not available right now, But I thank you for caring enough to write and reply . I am making some changes in my life. Please leave a message if so you wish it. If I do Not return your message, you are one of those changes.

  • Fabulosa,divinooooooooo!!!!

  • she does an absolute wonderful version of this!

Beautiful and perfect!, makes it look so effortless!

  • *sigh* and i smile

  • she just knows how to make it seem real.

  • Go ahead hammer! You are right!!!!!!! I'm agree with everything hammer says

  • @Dessayfanatic ,your consent with stupidity ,vularity and just ill-breeding makes it double.

  • is there a DVD of this performance?

  • Anna, did gergeiv ever complain about your ASS ODOR????

  • @hammer55292 You should look up "Madonna-whore complex" on wikipedia.

I think you'll find it enlightening.

  • ryazan54 , eto pochemy zhe??? Ia tozhe lubliy Annu!

  • Great interpretation of Violeta..Nice.Thank you.

  • OH MY GOSH! The aria befor "Sempre LIbre" was the most beautiful thing on Earth! Such passion and that fuzzy feeling you get that you can't explain when you hear true art performed at it's best.

  • She can be so beautiful without being snobbish. She is so folksy, I like that, and she sings great and she looks the part. Wonderful.

  • she is just great, one of the world`s best of our times.

  • I mean she sings beautiful than a ballerina dances.

  • Haha I thought you compared her to a ballerina.

  • She sings way more beautiful than a baller dancer does.

  • Everytime I hear her I just smile and shake my head. She's amazing.

  • Merci à vous pour cet extrait.

  • Very much the essencd of Violetta!

  • Why do all Violettas wear the same kind of dress?????

  • Comment removed

  • Maybe off-shoulders is the style in those days.

  • She wears the best among all Violettas.

  • It is a period piece. Dressing in that way adds a touch of 'Realism' to the such an Opera whenever it is performed.

I do so wish Operas should be kept and represented in their original Language and time frame

  • que aria mas hermosa!

  • It's so neat to see her in this setting. Not so much on the other production.

  • No one does this like her. So high!

  • What a pure pleasure it is to hear her voice soar in this aria!

  • Anna is our small beam of the sun! Voice, appearance, talent.everything is wonderful! Such as she no longer exists. It present of wonder!

  • Anna is simply a delight.

  • One of the best La Traviata ever!

  • This is her best.

  • A voice from Heaven!

  • Amazingly beautiful voice.

  • Браво!!!!!

  • C 'est génial! basta!

  • @rudi3331

the boy named Kissin is the greatest classical pianist today and filaredo is one of the smartest music agents in europe.

Striker sit in a nuthouse!! He mow gras, cut firewood and thinks, Maria Callas was a great singer......LOL:)))).

That's the reason why he wears a straitjacket.

On YouTube everybody knows him as:

    THE GREATEST BLABBERMOUTH WITHOUT BRAIN

  • In spite of her technical limitations and poor coloratura, I like her. She has a nice and warm voice, reaches rather high notes, and she's very pretty and a fine actress.

  • No limitations, just pure beautiful voice.

  • She's got it all dude!

  • The incarnation of a diva.

  • She is the best and all the rest

    Is foam of envy blue

The voice of dream with notes of cream

    And that is only true!

    Day after day,day after day

She gives us joy and love

    With caressing,velvet lovely voice

    And all is said above!

  • how twrrible to hide between a mack and slander a very nice lady as anna

  • @rudy3331 Rudy Vallee, we slander Annushka because a band of " those kind of guys " slander the Great Callas. Tell Filaredo, and Vandrops how much you hate them. Once they stop, I stop. I would smash them down to the ground if I could, but they were afraid of me. Filaredo hangs with a boy named Evgeny Kissen...what a pair!! WOO HOOO!!!!!!

  • i just like the way she entertains, i do hope she regains her figure. i am rudolph valentino not vallee, although i do have most of vallee's recordings, apart from the ones where he sang with the :bing Boys' in paul whitemans band

  • Anna the SOUBRETTE!!! Send her back to the farm so she can sing to the little piglets. She can call her little Tiago in to suckle. Anna the singing sow!!

  • Nice fairy-tale Striker.

  • Vandrops, Annushka is on her way down. She cancels a lot. She has gotten fat. She gets bad reviews sometimes. She just wants to hang with her piglet Tiago. She does not have expert technique. She can NEVER be La Divina. Anna must go back to the farm.

  • ANNA NETREBKO IS THE GREATEST SOPRANO OF ALL TIME

    (BBC2009)

    (Times2009)

She surpasses Callas and is the NEW LA DIVINA

  • Everyone treat Annushka like the whore that she is!! She stinks singing, and she has an ASS ODOR!!! Anna, the new WHORE OF OPERA!!

  • @striker9410 netrebko is the new La Divina. striker, you're still an incomparable jerk.

Your feces are not so magnificent like the shit who comes out off Callas mouth!

  • Belmaqnotre, our group shit, into your mouth!! HA!HA!

  • OK! Thank you.......Duh!

But it's only a lot of fuss about nothing and we are bored stiff.

  • Filaredos, my great feceal matter to your mouths. Your names are stupid and irrelevant. My symbolic shit to your mouths, and that of Annushka. Inhale it fully.

  • Filaredo/vamndrop, to the death!!!! To the death, I will fight you!!!

  • you are megalomaniac,

  • Filaredo/Belman, as long as you continue to diss LaDivina, Annushka gets symbolically butt-fucked. I don't care how long it takes, one month, one year, ten years, I'll fight you to the death, you filthy scumbag.
