  • Great..

  • Great music for its main purpose: to tell those universal stories which immediately touch your soul.

  • عربي وافتخر

    Arab and proud :)

  • LOL intresting lute type instrument. you mean the lute is an interesting type oud instrument?

  • @megamanthehitman Right on.

  • حسام الشايع يحب هالاغنية ههههههههههههههههههههههههههه لايك اذا كنت عربي

  • love to see him playing.... best regards....

  • Music is indeed, universal. It is the one earthly language we all share. Some have heard it beyond the spheres. Few speak it. Once you hear it, you can't go back. Speaking through an instrument is a passion but one worthy of our existence.

  • South, but more on the Eastern border, just above Uganda. East bank of the Nile.

  • he is a Nubian !! North Africa ..South of Egypt :D lol

  • Translations PLEASE!!!this sounds so beautiful

  • Can anyone translate the lyrics ?

  • berber?

  • @trufiend138 Nubian.

  • music is universalll , greetings from İstanbul

  • translations pls ?

  • lute = laud (in spanish, coming from the arab) = al ud

So, this is the protoype of the lute type instruments...

  • Hamza el Din taught me for free when i was 15 to 18 in Oakland california. He taught me how to feed the squirells in his front yard tree.... to open the windows and listen....to spice my cigarettes... to accept those younger than you.... to respect those older and wiser than you. He taught me how to hear things you have never heard. He taught me to pioneer and remember your roots. He taught me how to take music from the world and how to give it back. Thank You Hamza. Love and peace,

    luke

  • @abalaba44 really? last time i saw him he was talking about a jihad of some sort

most random shit i ever heard

  • @abalaba44 He used to come in as a regular at the restaurant where I worked on 4th Street in Berkeley. He taught the owner Egyptian hand drumming and they often performed together.

  • @abalaba44 thanks for sharing your experience. I wonder is there a trick to hearing new things?

  • @abalaba44

    Beautiful Luke...

I keep returning to him for Inspiration again and again. Lets retain the legacy and keep the spirit alive through music...

  • More footage of Hamza el Din live. WHERE?

  • What a wonderful musician Hamza was. He did this number with the Dead at the Capitol Theater in 1978 and earlier when he played with them in Giza. RIP

  • What a wonderful musician. RIP

  • soft voice, good instrument, thanks from türkiyeee

  • superrrrrrr

  • The lute is a descendant of the Ud.

  • respect from crete!

  • I am a nubian from Egypt and I am so proud of him and hold much grief because I didn't get to meet Hamza may Allah rest your soul in peace.

  • I remember listening to a record by this wonderful musician when I was a kid. Loved it then and am happy to rediscover his music.

  • i used to have this on an album.. this is my favorite hamza song.. now i can't find it anywhere to buy.. does anyone know the name of the song or name of the album? i think this is one of the most beautiful songs i have ever heard in my life and i also want to find the translation. a beautiful soul.

  • Hello lakotalilalokas , I think the song is called Helalisa and it is from the Eclipse album. Hope this helps.

  • Absolutely out of this world!

  • why so much hate? especially directed at egypt. i don't care what slights one perceives from arab influence in egypt but many southern egyptians (the real egyptians) are close with sudanese and nubian culture as it is the closest thing to our own ancient culture.

anyway, less BS and more about the music. this is gorgeous. i have a couple of his CDs and he's one of the best today, no question about it.

  • I'm Egyptian myself but not Nubian and I'm so proud of this. His English is surprisingly good by the way :D

  • Beautiful sound.

  • Nubiana Suite is the first live commericial recording of Hamza. The first half is devoted to Hamza solo, while the second half consists of the Nubiana Suite, an extended piece that fuses Hamza's music with taiko drums, guitar and other instruments

اسلام النجار - ابوسمبل - مصر

  • ultradestruction : Unfortunately these songs are not Egyptian or Sudanese, as it claims that the song Nubian

post: eslam elnagar - nubian - south egypt

  • selam from turkey hamza thank you beautiful.

  • just right for me to revise world music, thank you :)

  • Nubian civilization has changed the real name of Egypt, Nubia Egyptian civilization, and this is not possible, the capital nabata, and Kush are the foundation of civilization, it is alleged civilization of Egypt

  • I love this. beautiful... what an interesting instrument that is. I want one. :) i play acoustic guitar. is it similar?

  • So thankful that we got to spend time together on this earth. You are never gone;) from me Hamza El-Din

  • This music is beautiful.

  • This is the lead track on his debut CD...

  • Amazing, my good Sudanese friend introduced me to this music.

  • Is there a translation?

  • Masterful.

  • simply beautiful !

  • @Nigriff One of the best oud player I've heard.

  • saw in in the 80's in tiny backroom of mcabes guitar shop. thanks for this video.

also, he can be seen in the background of a pic of the greatful dead when they were in egypt. a prized picture of mine.

  • Many thanks for this!

  • Is he singing in Arabic or in another language?

  • Hamza el Din singing in nubian

  • He is singing in Nubian language

  • That's not Arabic, Nubian I believe

  • had his first album in our house when i was a kid- '65 or so? always a favorite of mine. first time i've ever seen footage! thanks!

  • Hamza El din is too great i loved him from the first song. listen to his track on the visitors included in Babel ost its great too.

  • Oud legend.

  • The father of modern Nubian music ,a great string player and oud master.

  • G-d bless hamza el-din...what a blessing to music... i used to hear him on records when i was a little kid, then met him in 93. when i told him, he put his arm around me and smiled.

  • Anouar Brahem, from Tunisia, is the right spelling, sorry.

  • I love the music of Hamza El Din, sure other men play instruments like this but his songs are unique :)

  • As far as I know, the ud is a turkish instrument. I recently got one from Istanbul. Does anyone know the tuning of it? I think that the first 4 strings are G, D, A and E, like the bottom four strings on a guitar

  • kuku,,,,,,,

  • seraboseeeeeee 7obek jananeneenenene

  • Hamza, Alaa El Din was born in July 10, 1929 TOSHKA near the village of Wadi Halfa in southern Egypt and emigrated with his family after the construction of Aswan High Dam after the village sank in 1960.

  • Hamza religion to attract the performance when he plays and the attention and admiration of many Western singers such as Bob Dylan and the Task Jeritvl Dead (Grateful] ead) and Peas singer Joan (Joan Baez), and Hamzah settled in the United States after the contract was signed with Vanguard Records (Vanguard Records).

post: eslam elnagar - nuba - egypt

  • Hamza Aladdin [1929-2006] Artists Nubian music, and a global player on the lute and the machine has been tarred Nuban excelled in playing the violin to become a world-renowned, but unfortunately did not arrive to Egypt after his country's very few who know the religion or Hamza Alaa Hamza alias name of a religion outside.

  • If I could play oud like any one person, it would be Hamza El Din...if only...

  • does anyone know what he is saying?

  • how many string? 12 or 6 knobs?

  • usually eleven strings, two strings on: C, G, D, A, F (from top down) and one string on low C. Twelve pegs with one empty. Some people do it differently.

The hardest part of oud is actually the picking technique (at least for me).

  • Music doesn't know borders. We have a similar kind of music in Greece too!

Actually there are references of most musical scales used today in ancient Greece.

    "Ionian Mode" (C-D-E-F-G-A-B-C)

    "Aeolian mode" (C-D-Eb-F-G-Ab-Bb-C)

    "Dorian Mode" (C-D-Eb-F-G-A-Bb-C)

    "Mixolydian mode" (C-D-E-F-G-A-Bb-C)

"Phrygian mode", "Lydian mode", "Locrian mode",

  • @doesntfitinatag

Ancient Greece was heavily influenced by people such as this man here.

  • the oud is an instrument in remarkable sonority

  • He was a friend of mine. He is SUDANESE not Egyptian. Most Nubians live in northern Sudan while many also live in southern Egypt. This is a Sudanese Nubian.

  • nuba nuba ,,,,,,,,

  • neither the music nor the Ud ( the instrument he is plaing ) is not related Turkish ( Ottoman ) folk. This instrument is played in all middle east. So as Turks, we also play and like Ud. I hope this little info. helped u :))

  • that is not Ottoman Folkloric Music it i snubian egyption folkloric music

  • great...wonderfull music.This is Ottoman Folkloric Music...

  • Oops ... sorry 4U ... it's not Ottoman music (Ottoman is Turkish), but Nubian music (in the south of Egypt, near Sudan).

Unfortunately, Hamza passed away in 2006.

    Bye ;-)

  • lol. it's not just north african. it's played throughout the middle east.

  • Thanks for posting this...

It is very important to preserve the diferent cultures of the world!

    And besides, it's simply beautiful!

  • BEAUTIFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUL

  • this is brilliant music.

  • is that an arabic song ?? arabic language ??

  • That's a good question. Hamza is Nubian, and plays tradition nilotic or Pharoanic type music. If it isn't Arabic than it should be Nubian. This is one of my favorites. Haven't heard it for over a decade. if it is not Arabic it is probably Nubian. The song is also found on the album, Songs of the Nile.

  • It's Nubian. Although he does sing in Arabic, also. Beautiful language, isn't it ?

This song is also found on the album 'Eclipse'.

  • Thanks for posting this here!

  • Very nice.

  • Hamza was a big inspiration in the rock&roll world much like Ravi Shankar was

  • simply excellent!

  • wonderful music and musician

  • nice

  • Is there a studio version of this song?

What is the name of it the piece he's playing?

  • You can find it on "Eclipse" as a song called "Helalisa."

  • It is also on "Songs of the Nile" as "Hela Lisa" (different version).

  • Beautiful! I used to live in the south of Spain, and we got to visit Morocco one time, and this reminds me of that glorious time in my life. I also love flamenco with the Moorish influence in the singing. This is making me want to eat cous cous (SP?).

  • This is amazing

  • Wonderful

  • Now this is a very rare oud made by Nahat almost 100 years old It's the Strad of ouds and he bought it from a shop in NY who didn't know what an oud was its possibly worth 100,000 US$

  • hamza dayi bitanesin udu otturmussun serefsizim helallll

  • I love Nubian oud music much, much more than oud music from other cultures.

  • Nubian Oud Music including hamza el din's songs, is amazing. This is unique part of the Nubian Sudanese culture.

It's sucks that Northern Pan-Arab Egyptian racist bastards are trying to destroy the culture of Nubian Sudan.

  • salam the biggest joke is they're not even arabs:)

  • @ultradestruction, Yes, mean people suck!

  • @ultradestruction but they will never be able to do so if there is someone 2 defend it from hem

  • @ultradestruction you're a lying sack of shit, Egyptians have nothing against Nubian Sudan so SHUT THE F UP PUNK

  • hamza!

  • where can i get the movie?

  • I have no idea, I have a .... uhmmm... not quite legal copy.... but you can see a bit of the film here on youtube, the title is 'Passion in the Desert'. The director is Lavinia Currier- mysterious person, as far as I know, it was her only one feature film - for me beautiful.

I LOVE his music, so deep and peacefull

  • perfection. I love that song

  • GÜZEL OLMUŞ

  • ماشاء الله اغنية رائعة وعزف اروع

  • So can someone highlight the differences between nubian and egyptian music?

  • There is big different between nubian and egyptian music .one is in arabic other in nubian i can say the same different between english and french.you should learn about nubian history

  • Jonas. There are a number of differences between Nubian and Egyptian music. First and foremost (at least in my humble opinion) the instruments. While both utilize the Ud extensively, Egyptian (or Arabic) music will also use instruments such as the keyboard, rarely if ever found in Nubian music. And then there's the Nubian ribab (a bowed instrument) not used in Egyptian.

Then there's the language. I speak Egyptian - but don't understand A WORD of Nubian.

  • Cool thanks!

  • :O i didnt know he was dead, rest in peace Hamza El Din!

  • may he rest in peasce. is one of the few greats of nubian music history.gamal barbis
