What would you say are the 'top 3 benefits' of using Google alerts? As opposed to just doing a normal search - given that the web is so vast anyway.

Google Alerts seems like a very useful and resourceful tool.
Thanks for the video - I will try to organize a series of search terms for my interests and see how it goes.
It looks like you have an edit feature that allows you to modify your alert if the result is not quite what you were looking for or for refining your search results.
