My 93 ram 250 just hit 418,000km and doing the oil pump tomorrow. Replaced top end gaskets last year this time, including plenum gasket. After tomorrow probably good til i hit a million kms.
mine burns oil to, idk if its a dodge, or 318 thing. runs great and enough power to tow another full sized truck all over but its like if fuckin eats the oil or something
If your truck was burning a lot of oil I bet your intake plenum gasket went bad. This is a VERY common problem that can be fixed permanently with an aluminum plenum plate along with a new gasket.
I recommend replacing the Dodge barrel intake manifold with the Hughes one piece unit and their 52 mm throttle body...then put on a set of shorty headers, and and K and N Air filter...these simple changes pay big dividends on the ole 318
dude get rid of the beer keg intake manifold get the fi air gap from Hughes automotive (look it up on google) my dad got it and it runs so much better nice video anyways
Thank you for your feedback. It helps alot. I only have a few more questions. 1) Do you happen to know what the lift is on your cam? 2) How much of a difference did this kit make in the sound of how your truck idles? and 3) could you give me the part number of the springs you bought? I have to get my truck together asap because its my daily driver, but i am going to mod it some because i i can mod it for the same price as putting roller lifters and all back in it. Thanks again
can you please give me the specs for your cam, what type of cam it is (tappet or rollor?) , the info on your springs, push rods, and lifters. i am rebuilding my 318 in a 96 dakota and im trying very hard to get good suggestions. your feed back would be GREATLY appreciated
@scottscompany08 haha oh god...Its a comp cams k kit, part number is k20-220-3, its a fairly mild kit but better then stock. Its just regular lifters sadly, i didnt want to spend the money on rollers haha. I would definitely recommend the throttle body spacer and cold air intake (big difference in throttle response)
@iplayveryloud compared to stock not really if your driving like your racing your mpg is gonna be crap anyways but these items toppled with normal driving will keep it at least the same if not actually improve mpg if you drive casually
should have gone with a true roller timing chain in my opinion a stcok 318 is ok but you can buff it up a bit just by changing a fer things with out even rebuilding the entire engine get and edelbrock proflow filter and an exhaust kit and thatll boost your hp and throttle response noticeably
i just pulled 92 318 out of my dakota and now i have it laying around. Needs a rebuild, but i was actually thinking about building it up a little and then find a "shell" for it.... something like older dart or charger.... any advice?
well a nice cam and some heads can never hurt, the motors are small but they go pretty good with some easy work. I would rather put it in an old dodge short box then a charger, charger deserves a 440 or hemi
being its a dodge you should have replaced the water pump while its out and easy to get to. i replaced the one on my 5th ave 2x and my dad replaced his rams 3x now.
mostly its the bushings or bearings wearing out. im probably going to get an 80 stepside 2wd 318 4spd. going to put in an aftermarket one from summit before i do anything else to it lol. never had good luck with their newer auto trannies either. got a video of the truck running yet?
nice that will be a good little truck, haha and no i never did make a video if it running really, closest thing would be the one called "pulling the dodge out of the mud"
haha sorry i clicked remove instead of reply, we did look into the cranks seals, dodge has always had a problem with their rear seals for some reason. when we got the motor apart the cylinder walls were scored really bad and pistons and rings were bad. ended up getting a new block.
I'm thinking about rebuilding my 5.2 in my jeep i'm pretty interested to hear your truck run and know what size cam and stuff u put in it because you seemed to have had the same idea i want to do

i bet all that was wrong was your plenum was leaking. too bad you wasted all that money. i know of some rams with 400,000 on them with no rebuilds.

Thanks again.

Did the springs, lifters, cam, and pushrods all come in one kit?
scottscompany08 1 year ago
@scottscompany08 yes everything was in the kit except the timing chain/gears. truck still idled fine. lift of the cam was like 400 something.

looks like you needed to fix the plenum......
jeosua 2 years ago
@jeosua Yup like 80% of the 5.2L have a plenum prob.
I got a nice kit from huges racing. Its the V8 plenum reinforcment kit made out of a high strength, 1/4" thick aluminum plate. For about $90
When I do my rebuild i'll put it on.

TB spacers are junk on our truck. They don't do a thing.

with the throttle body spacer and cold air intake i actually did notice quite a change in the throttle response

did you notice a difference with the TB spacer?

if you do it all yourself its actually pretty cheap, shouldnt be more then 1000 bucks for rings / bearings / gaskets
