Just a question. Does it include subtitles? It can be very fun as well as instructive for newcomers to CoC, but for people like me, non-native english speakers, it could be difficult to follow...
i just ran my first CoC game and it was fun. truth be told it was a CoC pulp set in the mid 30s kind of a realy!!!! dark raiders of the lost ark but is was fun and only one player got killed and it was his falt he was hert bad and tryed to take a bayacee with a bowie knife oh well i think this campain will go on for a while we all had fun+
I tried listening to this for a while, but I found it mildly difficult to follow as the sound was really low, It had to turn my ipod up all the way to hear it audibly and on my laptop I had to connect extra speakers to hear it. All in all though it was fun to listen to.
These audio games are what convinced me to start playing CoC. I listened to them for free from the site, but I still bought the DVD when it came out. I'm listening to them again right now, and I laugh out loud at parts - like when they cast Summon Byakhee to prove (in character) that it wouldn't work. Its well worth the small amount of money for the games alone (there's well over 100 hours of audio), but there are tons of extras too.
Well, the campaigns on this DVD were at yog-sothoth d0t c0m, but they've been taken off public release now (still available to site patrons).
However, there is another complete campaign available for public download (Walker in the Wastes), and the first two episodes of a second (Tatters of the King).
The DVD is only a fiver though. Well worth the money IMO.
they're charging money for this? why can't they just release it online for free and make money off ads? Listening to other people's games is all well and good, but not the sort of thing I'd waste money and shelf space on.
They have been online for free for a number of years (the ones on the disc are released in higher quality audio).
There's a bunch of extras on the DVD, which includes interviews, utiltiies, music and more. Green Ronin's Freeport Trilogy & Cults of Freeport PDFs are on it and the entire DVD costs £4.99.
Somewhere...I have the original recordings from the COC Audio cassette(yeah , cassette) that ALMOST was released by Chaosium in the late 80's. Why? Cause I composed it for Greg Stafford , that's why! It got buried and Hawkmoon got released instead, but it would have been cool. If I can ever find those recordings,I'd certainly post them for folks as a free download. Go You-Sothoth!!! You guys are the Migo's knees!
We did a time lapse of our group playing a mega point Warhammer 40K game , I know it's around here some where. We laugh at the one guys who is always rearranging him self during the one second a minute recording.
Great stuff, Kurt. My group and I recorded several Gamma World sessions back in 1981-82, and one of the sessions we video taped. I've kept them all and have transferred them to digital.
Fun stuff but your right about it being 'not for general consumption.'
They actually make these MP3s available for free online so you can record your own CDs. That said, I tried listening to a couple of the Horror on the Orient Express recordings. It was hard to follow what was going on, the sound quality wasn't that great, and I found myself just wishing they would move along with the story. I would recommend a good audiobook or, better yet, an audio play instead.
Wow, a very original review! My players and I always had temptations to record one of our sessions, but, as you say, it's a very personal thing. Anyway, great review. Greetings from Spain!
PD: Do you have plans on reviewing Greg Stolze's "REIGN"? I'm reading it rigth now and is one hell of a kick-ass game.
While I'm sure the world at large would be amused with my group's AFMBE shenanigans, I don't think we would be able to show our faces in public ever again.
Kurt, assuming you have the same version that I do, there is SO much more content on that disc than just the sessions: CoC Quick Start Rules, Character Sheets, Tournament Cards, The Freeport Trilogy and Cults Of Freeport PDFs (from Green Ronin), Interviews with all the Bradford Players, Ramsey Campbell, Yog Radio episodes, Audio Books, Promos, etc., etc. It's an incredibly well-packed disc of goodies!

@Bajamamut It's predominantly a collection of audio files, so no subtitles.

If you like listening to folks play you can hear the guys from PA. If you like watching folks play you can see Robot Chicken's writers.

this sounds really stupid, plus you'd ruin those games for yourself. Although, I have played fully through Masks & it was great!

Check out EYE SEE FOOD(2009) on my channel. Some of that music was re-done for the ending/cultist stuff.
