"there was only one road back to L.A" through "freak kingdom" is from chapter 11, when he leaves after getting the telegram about the D.A. convention. "My heart was filled with joy" onwards is from the very ending of the book after he buys more amyls in an airport (he leaves from the airport in the book). I'm not sure about the lines in the middle but I know they're in the book somewhere.

It seems this version of the dialouge isn't included on the DVD, at least not on the copy I've got; it stops right before "We'd gone in search of the American Dream...", and the credits start rolling, followed by "Jumping Jack Flash". My guess is that they cut it out for some unknown reason? Anyone have a better explanation, because this has gotten me curious.

This was the version that was in the film before it got cut. As far as I know there's no version of the movie you can get with this on it. I got it from the intro of the Dead Kennedy's cover of Viva Las Vegas which they did for the soundtrack.
