@TheWejdin: Tips are not wages, they are a gift and therefore shouldn't be taxed as wages. But your point is well taken, and Ron Paul has an answer to your question. No one's income should be taxed. He supports a transparent, flat, national consumption tax to fund a Constitutionally-limited federal government. We could then abolish the IRS entirely. No more special lobby-created carve out loopholes for the well connected. No more expensive record keeping for businesses. More jobs!

why do waiters need tax free tips? As it is if a waiter makes less than minimum wage in tips the employer is required to make up the difference to meet the minimum wage required. There for waiters will always make atleast minimum wage. Why should they get a benefit that the rest of minimum wage workers don't get?
