  • Schneider with the cigarette pack rolled up in his sleeve....

  • I have to admit having something of a teenage crush on Valerie Bertenelli in the late 70's...

  • loved the theme song....and loved the show up til when julie left!!!

  • This show was good until they brought on Glen Scarpelli. I never could stand him.

  • I remember the Mad magazine spoof - "One Dame at a Time."

  • Valerie Bertinelli in a bathtub!!!! HOT DAMN!!!

  • 0:42 produced by Budwiser! lol

  • Produced by Bud Wiser. Yup.

  • Valerie Bertenelli in a bathtub is totally wasted on little Glen Scarpelli.

  • @jred1975

    Glen Scarpelli = Scrappy Doo

And Valerie Bertenelli was as Hot in Indianapolis, as she is Hot in Cleveland.

  • @jred1975 Pretty screwed up,isn't it?

He should be liking women, not other men.

    It's sick.

  • The older I get the hotter Bonnie Franklin gets. Dammit.

  • the words to this theme song is the BEST ever! nothing comes close...'straight ahead and rest asure you can't be sure at all'.....priceless.

  • This is the opening I remember....good times, good times.

  • & U know something else? This is the greatest opening of this show so far 2!

This outgha be the landmark opener.

  • I couldn't stand this show. Was glad when it went off the air.

  • From the 79-80 season to the 81-82 season this show used odd graphic arts in the credits that changed each season.

  • Even now, all Valerie has to do to sizzle is smile.

  • Produced by BUD WISER....WTF

  • Valerie Bertinelli never ages

  • Glenn Scarpelli!!

  • @CanadianLiz01 He now lives in Arizona

  • I love this theme song; however, they could have gotten better singers... imho.

  • Can't help but dancing.

  • I love Valerie!

  • @entertainme3000 Me 2!

  • Season 7 turned out to be one of One Day At A Time's successful seasons. That year, the show had two Emmy nominations (their first Emmy nods). Alan Rafkin won for best director in an episode "Barbara's Crisis" and Bonnie Franklin was nominated for best actress, but lost to Carol Kane of Taxi. Also, Valerie Bertinelli won a Golden Globe for best supporting actress.

  • That is correct, The way Shows started doing the Big Stars was the Leads were done 1st and then last with a special mention on who they were playing. So that was an honor for Valerie Bertinelli..or as I fantasized Mrs Nutball Gazette

  • Glenn Scarpelli mad my heart stop... so fuckin beautiful!

  • why? she's a coke head

  • Actually, Scarpelli looked like a young Adrain Zmed from TJ Hooker

  • Scarpelli wasn't so bad. He was an attempt to appeal to the Junior High audience. Bring a kid on to relate to other kids. I got it.

  • that is a lovely sight seeing valerie bertinelli in a bath tub

  • I used to watch this show after school.lol

  • i'm love one day at time i was 7 years old at that time

  • I was so totally in love with val and still am--don't tell the wife though

  • u sound like a stalker get a life

  • This program specifically shows why Norman Lear was not some political hack...A brilliant reflection of our times...and how every American should approach life...moving forward

  • Glenn Scarpelli kinda looks like that youngest Jonas Brother! When I saw that Jonas kid, that was the first thing I thought!! :-)

  • glenn scarpelli kind of looks like a young jon cryer

  • Isn't there a cast member missing from those opening credits? Like oh I don't know ... Mackenzie Phillips. She was on the show till 1983.

  • glenn scarpelli is the greatest actor ever, he was robbed out of a part in "alice" as eddie the sone of alice. He is the icon of acting and should have had the lead role in different strokes as arnold, willis lil bro.

  • You're kidding right? This kid was the worst, he was a whiney little weasle.

  • its typical.............glenn acts his ass off and all he gets is name calling. Lets face facts, if glenn was in whoes the boss angela would be his bitch. If glenn was in happy days, we would be saying fonzi who? Last but not least if glenn was in threes company chrissy and janet would be ...................well even i know they would be starving for some luvin because glenn would be up in mr furley's crib!

  • What are you, the guys agent or his mother, the kid sucked the life out of the show, if he was that good what the fuck has he done since?

  • Totally agree. I couldn't stand Glen Scarpelli. He was a total douchebag. Back then his name alone was used as a pejorative among teenagers.

  • Using the word pejorative can get a teen's ass kicked, too.

  • I guess it depends on the teen. You see, I never had to worry about that. But geeks like Scarpelli or geeks that were fans of Scarpelli would.

  • On what planet? Smart people are respected, the dumb ones get the ass whoopin'.

  • I think it may be time for you to climb out of Glenn Scarpelli's ass. He is tired and wants to sit down now.

FYI... Alice Hyatt's son was named Tommy, and "sone" is spelled s-o-n.

Also, you realize Arnold (from Diff'rent Strokes) is supposed to be black... right?

  • Yea ,Yea..............tuff guy the facts are what they are. Glenn scarpelli has been screwed out of all the major parts. He would have been a better alex p keaton.......he would have been a better tony......a richie cunningham he should have been. The man could have made too close for comfort the "friends" we needed then but jim j bullock got in the way. I know what television is missing and everytime i see a rerun threes company with jack.................I say what could have been!

  • Boy, these lyrics couldn't be more true! I think we all need to practice them to get the most out of our lives!

  • What ever happened to Bonnie Frankilin? I actually saw her in her younger days recently on an old episode of 'Gidget'

    Bertinelli was attractive...still is, actually.

  • At 0:41 - "Produced by BUD WISER" Seriously?!?

  • @cmposr I noticed that myself, don't know if it's the guy's real name or a pseudonym like Alan Smithee

  • oh, thanks. i've never actually seen the show, although i am watching the first season now. Valerie is too cute

  • what the hell was that at the end? he was watching his sister take a bath????

  • She wasn't his real sister! He was the son of Ann's boyfriend. When he was killed by a drunk driver they took him in.

  • never seen this show, but a really good theme!!

  • i live in indy and its wierd seeing the city so small

  • When your mom looks like a dad you have to take it one day at a time, when the neighbor is a kid who acts badly, take it one day at a time.

  • This was the season that Eddie Van Halen married Valerie Bertinelli, 1981. And Glen Scarpelli is the biggest fuckin' geek that has ever walked the planet.

  • Valerie was married on APRIL 11, 1981, and she was divorced in 2005.

Mackenzie, returned to this season as a guest after being fired for being on drugs, and in the final season, she was fired again.

  • Remind me to never get off highway 70 going East.

  • Buffalo Butt!

  • The producer's name is BUD WISER?? That's gotta be a joke!

  • Bonnie Franklin has the face of a Jack O'Lantern in those stills!

  • Mackenzie, guest during this season. She gained weight, and that was after she got sacked in 1980.

  • COOL!

  • She looks even more beautiful without the excess

weight. The only thing that Ms.Bertinelli woint do..?

Is wear a bikinni at the beach. I still don't know why she woint do that?

She'd looked great in a biknni..but she still

    woint wear one.

  • WOINT? Don't you mean "won't"?

  • I was thinking the same thing. Neither looks anything like their "mother" Bonnie Franklin.

Hollywood is famous for this. You might say that Jews like Norman Lear like to "mix things up" a bit....

  • Is Bonnie Franklin still acting? I haven't seen her in a while.

  • She's mostly in theatre now.

  • Valerie Bertinelli was the only reason to watch the show.

  • yep

  • @cny70 for the whole run of the show

  • @cny70 U said it!!

  • I think Valerie got a little too thin these days, after losing weight in the last year. You can't look like you did when you were 19 all your life...Sheesh!!! Valerie, stop losing weight, you're fine for your age...

  • Not a fan of the boxes stillstore. :-/

  • I would of liked to of hoped in that tub with Valerie.

  • @StuntmanJackR me too

  • @StuntmanJackR Glenn Scarpelli sure wasn't about to. He probably threw rocks when the camera turned off.

  • And why isn't this show on DVD yet?

  • I think only season 1 is out on DVD. I'm sure others will come with how popular this show was.

  • Still like the intro.......good as i remember.

  • 81-82 yeech!!!!

  • Valerie Bertinelli looks the same even at 47.....

  • they should make a hip hop remix to this song lol

  • with a few changes, my parents kind of resemble mrs. romano and schneider.

  • Hey, does anybody not notice Valerie B. in the bathtub at :47!

  • i didn't

  • Keep looking JJSeven13, she's in the bathtub starting at :45!!!! Pretty hot.

  • I notices it!!! Been having dreams about Valerie ever since.

  • I wonder what episode that was.

  • Indianopolis?! WTF? I always thought this show took place in Cincinnati? lol I was young when it was around but still.

  • The series that took place in cincinnati was WKRP in cincinnatti ( I don`t think it was filmed there) that was the series thst had that city.

  • I always thought Scarpelli was gay. My gaydar works to almost 100%. Putting that aside however..much more importantly is the scene with VB in the bathtub at the end of the opening. We need a nice close up of that :)

  • Alex is hot!

  • Hmmm, looks like the editors got their hands on an Amiga 2000 with Video Toaster!

  • Looks to me like the producers were trying to compete with the show "Dallas" on this intro.

Why else would they apply the 3 picture effect?

  • Did they change the intro on the syndicated versons?

  • No.

  • The day valerie divorced Van Halen is the day I stopped believing in long term marriages

  • They lasted almost 20+ yrs. Not bad considering one was top Tv celeb and the other in one of the top bands in the 80's. I didnt they last a year really back then.

  • At :42 it says produced by Bud Weiser. LOL!

  • yes, indianapolis looks very different today

  • It blows my mind just how much the Indianapolis skyline has changed in 25 years.

  • The coolest part was at the end where that Alex dude gets to hang out in the bathroom with Valerie Bertinelli while she takes a bath - too bad Bonnie Franklin was there, or he could've make the moves on Valerie while she lay in the tub ;)

  • No he wouldn't, Alex came out a few years ago as a homosexual.

  • More Schneider!!

  • "Always remember, and don't ever forget...!"

  • WOW that was a loooooooooong time ago

  • I kinda wished they would have changed the opening theme just once - it would have been fun to hear a slightly different version. Most long-running sitcoms change the themes at least once.(see: "Alice")

  • Dude! Bud Wiser hint hint produced this! RLMFAO!

  • Better than Lou Enbrow producing it.

  • I really hate it when Poor Ms.Bertinelli

got last billing on this show!

  • At first it meant that she was just last but in later years for her it meantthat she stood out and was sort of an upgrade for her.

  • It's called special billing. It's very big especially in TV soaps, with the longest-running, most prominent cast member gets listed last (e.g. Eileen Fulton on "As the World Turns", listed at the very end, even AFTER all the extras and bit-players).

  • Having "and" status means you're just as important as the "starring" person!

  • what a kick ass intro song!

  • amen! this show started the year I was born and lasted NINE SEASONS!!! and the theme song stayed the same...damn I miss the old days!

  • Julie turned to drugs, Barbara turned to food, and Alex turn to sucking cock.

  • LOL!!!!

  • Mackenzie has gotten over her drug problem since

    then.

  • LOL really? whats the story on ALex?

  • Alex did cry a lot on a few episodes LOL

Glenn Scarpelli (Alex) is an openly gay man living in Arizona. And he is about 40.

  • Gotta love Alex...is there nothing he can't do?

  • Back in the day, I thought Valerie Bertinelli was the greatest little lady since sliced bread. I wouldn't care if that lady weighed 300 pounds! I still, to this day, think she is the greatest thing since sliced bread! Damn that Eddy Van Halen! lol j/k

  • WOW...Indianapolis looks so different now compared to those opening.

  • I will be getting some eps from that season soon. When I do, then I will let you know what it up.

  • Great video, brings back memories. Wasn't there one season where, instead of just suprimposing the actors' names over a montage clip, the screen went blue and showed a still photo of each actor with the name under it? I have this nagging memory from my high school years of something like that....but I might just be senile....

  • Yes. The opening that you are talking about was during the 79'-80' season. You are not senile. So rest easy.

  • I'm flabbergasted that you can remember exactly which year it was, when I can barely remember that it even happened....how do you do that?

Also, is that opening available anywhere? I can't seem to find it on the search engine.

  • jttnewguy, the 79-80 opening has been posted. Enjoy!

  • Thanks! That really brings back memories.

  • U R welcome!

  • how cute was Valerie Bertinelli? Seriously.

  • You're not kidding...I think she's the cutest in this opening with the ballcap on. She still looks good in those Jenny Craig commercials.

  • valerie does look good at 47 ill say

  • I was thinking about "Who's the Boss?" As a kid, I always wondered about the company Budweiser and wondered if they played a role in the programming.

  • LOL so did I

  • You can also find the producer's name "BUD WISER" on the first two seasons of Who's the Boss as well, btw!

Great Scott! I've missed a lot of intros to this show!

  • Yeah, all they need now is an extra "e" and the show would've been written by a beer..nah, that's just too "wird"

  • Produced by Bud Wiser... hahahaha

  • Great audio! Thanks!
