My first flight in the awesome Griffon was in the CAF during RV 82 as a medic in 2nd Field Ambulance, it was a night flight to Wainwright and we flew like the wind and the men who flew those birds were as cool as the night.
I've always been a big fan of the stuff you put up. Being a grease monkey on the old herc's, I've had the privledge to see all the CF assets in action. Nice to get a feeling from the inside track.
@wikiwangster5000 AESOP's only serve on Ch-124 or CP-140's and now UAV's. Flight Engineer is what its called. You have to be an AVN Tech for 6 yrs before you OT to FE.
I am currently in Afghanistan flying on the Griffon Light Escort / Attack Helicopter. Same as in the video but rather than 2 C6 Door guns we now have 2 M134 Gatling Door Guns that fire 3000 rounds per minute. This is the closest Canada comes to an attack helicopter at this time..
@ArrowSmith95 dont my uncle is marine corps and he had a friend that was shot in the head by a PKM round while he was covering for door gunner who had already been shot (the door gunner had been shooting at a house the ground units were taking fire from before they landed to pick there wounded up but the gunner was shot right when they landed) so my uncles friend volunteered to take his place and no less then 30 seconds after they took off he was shot in the head once and the body 3 times
@MUJUNKY Mad respect for them bud .They served their country well. Being a door gunner is not the only job im looking at right now . Their's E.O.D .AVN Tec,Door Gunner ,Pilot, and many more .pluss i have a few years left in cadets befor i join the military . thanks for the concern . Gd bless all who serve their country . I wish your uncle luck ,and safety in his work.
no... best we got is a transport helicopter with side mounted machine guns that go up to a 7.62mm minigun.... canada uses cf18s for all ground support missions.... i dont know why we dont buy ah-1s or ah-64 from america or a eurocoptor from britian
I'm going to be a AVN SYS TECH when I'm done High school. They way it works is you spend 3 months on a flight line to see what aircraft your best suited for so if you get a griffon your lucky
I know. Its the most epic attack helicopter, I know its not the best, but its still cool. Does anyone know how you become a flight engineer in a Griffon?
You have to join the CF as a AVN Tech first, become a corporal, 2 years after that you put a memo through your chain of command and hope you get an occupational transfer.
ya but our griffons are like the british attack choppers which r similare to griffons mounted 50.cal mg and rocket pods (which ar to be added apparently)
I am picking these numbers out of my arse but I believe that RV89 was around 10,000 pers. I may well be wrong but I seem to remember RV89 as the last that deployed 1 CanDiv, so that (if I am right) would have meant around (peacetime) 11,5000+ pers.
I found "strong messages" and could not finr video of an apache. Can you direct me to the specific time code for the video?
That footage is from a gunship HUD, but I will guarantee you it is not from a Canadian Apache. It happens all the time where an overenthusiastic layman puts footage together.
It may have even been added as Canadian footage during an ex in which the US Army participated. Regardless, I assure you that the Canadian Forces has NEVER flown (operationally) the AH-1 or AH-64. Again, if anyone has conclusive evidence to the contrary, present it and I will apologize.
The rest of your points I won't argue with... the CF was screwed over by the Liberals. Maybe the economic downturn will work in the favour of the CF by having Harper support shipbuilding, Helo's, hercs and men.
For stimulated the economy with need build an army, that create jobs, stimulated economy and accelerated the modernization of CF. Just one week later, Mckay declared the decontamination of the north of canada with old cold war radar who were abondonned 50years ago.
That create job and made the program of "Green" from Conservator party who declared in 2006.
You really need to go on defenseindustrydaily, defencewatch(David Pugliese), Canadian American Strategic Review (CASR),MERX (Canadian Public Tenders), DR&D Canada...but not Wikipedia haha.
I'm so young i know very well CF, my cousin she a capitaine in Borden (where the C-17 GlobemasterIII and future JTF-2 base) she is a high responsable to logistic in CF and i know about CH-146 way before you CombatScent maybe since 2005, in reality since 2002 after the DND declaration of a need
The CH-146 have HDMX15 since spring 2008 (19) for "Recce,Information, surveillance" ,40 for "escort" and the rest in normal tactical airlift, due of the new CH-147D/F acquission canada don't need CH-146 for this job, so yes the new CH-146 will be fitted with "CRV-7" pod that was a doccument in DND (Official website) from 2002 about a future attack conversion of CH-146.
Each Minigun cost 75,000$ (piece) and CRVpod cost much more than 10,000 for a new platform and protection plate for the crew.
Jimderkaisser, I appreciate the conversation that you bring here but please stick to what you know. Most of the information that you are arguing here is completely wrong. I am a Flight Engineer on the CH-146 Griffon and I am laughing my ass off at all the false claims that you have made.
P.S. I am posted to CFB Borden and there are no C-17's or JTF2. C-17's are based out of 8 Wing Trenton and the JTF2 operate out of CFB Petawawa..
The CH-146 have no firepower, and that since 2002 canada wanted more power for ground troop because, canada isn't in war but our armoured and inf are vunelerable by Enemy close-air support such A-10/AH-64 ect the only close-air support canada have is the CF-18 and we don't have much (only 80, the rest are "reserve" use). If you're a flight enineer for CH-146 you know about MX15 true HD from wescam (L-3, Longueuil) and know about the modernization and new horizion for CH-146 ,such Escort.
Anyway Harper declared for Olympic game the plan of 40 air support, 20 recce, surveillance, information helicopter and the remaining as a normal tactical helicopter ,due of the new CH-47D/F capacity.
I understand CF wanted more CH-47F because the new F version for CF are way different from D, for an example the F who canada wanted have greater fueltank, can reach soldiers behind enemy line (Combat Search&Rescue), and much more firepower (maybe 4+1 gun position, when the normal have 2+1)
THANK YOU! I was beginning to think I was out of touch with reality. (In relation to previous thread...) I did OJT at 403 TacHel in the early 80's and don't remember any Cobra's or Apache's on the flightline.
Well if you want, but i have the video ;), my grandfather was infected by Agent Orange and LSD during korea war, did you heard about experience in CF? I'm probably sure not because it's a secret of national security. Same for AH-64 and Cobra, who canada declared is a ultra lethal weapon (one of reason we don't have "firepower" for ground troop such close-air support).
Canada had cluster bomb and nuclear weapon, in 1980s when stupid hippy take the control of canada (such Liberal) they reduice canadian firepower and all lethal weapon, like nuclear bomb in CF-101 voodoo and the attack helicopter (lease).
Same for all cargo capacity such CH-47, and canaceled EH-101 (50 in 1990s) Jean-Chrétien declared the CH-124 seaking are good for 20years (2010), and now we have only 14 EH-101 for SAR, 28 CH-148 when in 1990 was 50 for ASW.
Canada is a typical peace army ,and look what happened when hippy and communist came to the power in canada. Liberal canceled CV90 contract in 1993,and three years later purschase LAV-III, who are badly criticized in Afghanistan due of the poor off-road capacity.
In 2005 Gen. Rick Hillier said CF need martime capacity such LHD,LSD,LSP , Paul Martin authorized in 2003 the program "Joint Support Ship" and a varraint as "Amphibious Assault Ship" but the AAS was "canceled" for the priority the JSS.
The JSS was cancelled this years, because the program cost 3 billion dollar for 3 ships (1 billion each), some sources such Dave Pugliese said "why not two like the Protecteur class" , the minister of defence peter mckay said "we need 3 not 2" but the Protecteur class are only two remaining and they does a great job. The plan are canceled in 28 august 2008, the famous key role and new design for military vessels with COGOG engine (Canadian made).
In 2006 after the JSS and AAS project, and in 2005 when Rick Hillier siad we need Amphibious capcity, during the stupid israeli/lebanon war in 2006 Canada evacuated 30,000 canadian in one months...that was the most catastrophic and unorganized evacuation in all canadian history, due of the low capacity of maritime/airforces and army.
In 2006 Harper came in power and authorized the canadian militarization program aslo called "canadian First Defence", passed miserable 60,000 soldiers to up 90,000
Harper cancelled the JSS program because in 2003 Paul Martin who own a RO-RO and LO-Lo shipyard industry don't mind about CF capacity.
The program was not good for the price (to much expensive for 3 AORS/AOPS). This years he talked about a possibility of 2 LHD (Landing Dick Helicopter) or greater capacity such LSD Dock Landing Ship, with 100-150 crew (for example, the Halifax class as 250 personal).
The LSD/LHD capacity is a new sealift capacity for CF, the last time was during WW2 and 1970.
At this declaration he claim the future plan of 25 CH-148 in option to 55 CH-148 maritime helicopter and a possibility of 10 CH-47F for maritime capacity. Since 2006 CF have a sort of "US Marines Corps" , but with only 350 member and Gen. Rick Hillier said CF can reach 1000 for 2010. Is nothing with USMC who have 200,000 soldiers on this military branch.
The CFMC is more like the new CSOR but for navy, with special forces capacity , isn't like normal military branch such Candian LandCommand.
CF program of modernization and militarization of Canada need much more capacity. Army have : 50,000 soldiers Navy : 25,000 Air : 20,000 Ranger : 4,000 or 5,000 For a total of approximately 100,000 soldiers (Regular,Reserve,Rangers) to : Army : 70,000 Navy : 30,000 Air : 25,000 Ranger : 8,000 For approximately 130,000 soldiers and in reserve/regular. 30,000 soldiers is a huge difference, they need much more artillery, vehicule, helicopter, ships, aircraft and greater military budget.
Half of CF equipment are from 1960s, many can't fly such CF-18 some of our CF-18 can't participated in action combat in future, only patrol or sold to scrap due of the high acceleration of end life. In 2001 Jean-Chrétien said "why nobody takecare about canadian army" because our soldiers in 2002 was in green unfirom, and at this time canada had no airlift capacity because the C-130 are cheap and old.
In 2009 the military budget its approximately 20 billion per years, right now 19 billion.
Agent Orange is no secret. Their is a large lawsuit related to it from civvies/personnel posted to/living near CFB Gagetown in the 60's. My Transport WO in 2 RCR in the 80's was ex-Black Watch and pointed out a field where they had buried empty and unused drums of it after testing.
PLEASE post the video of Canadian Armed Forces Cobra's and/or Apache's. I would love to see it and will gladly apologize once I have.
My video of AH-64 is on one of my lasted video, is a "HUD" camera from 1990s (the only i have) and some "hell fire" firing during an exercise in 1998 with three branch cooperation air, sea, ground forces.
A HUD will not show nationality of operation. You have to provide me with unedited video of a flight of Canadian Armed Forces Cobra's/Apache's. Of course there is HUD video of Cobra's & Apache's over Canadian Forces, they provide tacair support to us as we don't have our own. I don't consider a Griffon as a reasonable substitute for a helicopter gunship.
Me too i don't consider the griffon as a good substitute of light attack helicopter/recce but that work for USMC in afghanistan.
Watch all my resent video (Strong Messages) you can see one video of CF apach AH-64 in 1998 during a large exercise (probably the largest in CF history) with over 6,000 soldiers from air, army, navy.
I was on RV81 and RV89 and both were well over 6,000 personnel. You have to remember that we were still commited in FRY in '98 and so had a lot less troops to send on a BIG ex. I am new to Youtube, please explain how I can find the video of the CF AH-64. My wife married me because I am cute....not smart.
@Jimderkaisser Borden is not even a "Operational" base, its only a "school" just like Gagetown, a the except that Gagetown have the 2RCR BG. JTF2 are based in Ottawa / PET, and the nearest C17 is at Trenton'
Don't be a foolish ,canada had attack helicopter and for an exemple we (Canadian Forces) Had 600 fighter in 1980-1995 with the CF-105 and CF-18 , now only 120 and 80 operationnal the rest in "reserve", passed from 90,000 soldiers in active forces (regular) to 60,000 in 1993-2008. The military budget was 12 billion in 1990 to be 9 billion in 2001 for finaly 18.6 billion in 2008 and 24 billion for 2011 and finaly in 2031 for 96 billion.
im so glad that the current conservatives under steven harper are trying to get our military back into shape... good equipment is needed in the war... thanks Stephen Harper
ya but to make the whole package come together it would take attack heli's and the light escort are good there would only be like 20-30 attack helis for bigger duties
i heard tht the upgrade is for the chinooks in theatre and there might be different heli's purchased or griffons further upgraded i.e. crv7 and possibly hellfire because looks like air sommand is leaning toward attack heli's
The CH-146 had modernization two months ago (only 19) with L-3 wescam MX-15 True HD stabilizer camera with 1080P real time video. In 2010 ,aproximatly 20 CH-146 will be used for 'reconnaissance, surveillance, intelligence, 40+ for 'light escort helicopter' and the rest of the fleet with normal light tactical transport (MedEvac,Transport of troop, transport of material such 105mm LG1 ect). The project was annonced in 2005 and 2007 officialy accepted due of the Olympic Game in 2010 in Vancouver.
The 'reconnaisence, surveillance, inteligence' helicopter use similar capacity from the light recon helicopter aslo called as 'OH-58' but with much more capacity and more faster and better armed. The 'escort' is a CH-146 with CRV-7,maybe Hellfire(not sure) and 2x M134D minigun or 2x C-6 machine gun (originaly founded on the CH-146) the tactical helicopter use basic configuration ,one mounted gun C-6 and 13 seat.
They can be configurated with Hellfire, CRV-7 and 2x M134D , because the UH-1 'Huey' from USMC use the identical configuration and the UH-1 are much older and the HP engine are less powerfull than the Bell 412 so if USMC can fitted heavy armed configuration the CH-146 can for sure and anyway that is from 20 years ago canada try to acquired another attack helicopter after the 25 years AH-1 cobra (lease), after that canada purschase 'mini-tat' a horrible Kiowa with Minigun under the helicopter.
we don't know the configuration about the CH-146 Griffon's , so how you can say is imposibile canada can use it? Canadian Airforces had during up 10 years the previous version of Hellfire on AH-1, before cutting budget in 1990s by Liberal Party (jean-chrétien and Paul Martin) who himself (J-C) said "Why nobody care about Canadian Forces" in 2001 after our forces were sent in Afghanistan with green CADPAT..this guy who cutt 10billion dollar said "Why nobody care about CF"...ridiculous haha
Yes canada owner and operated the AH-1 , i read an article in DND website about the armed version of CH-146 from 2002. In 2005 the first time a decleration by the former minister of defence declared we need them, in 2007 that was officialy accepted a CH-146 converted in a combat helicopter.
I have doccument talking about 10 AH-64 were operated between 1990-2000s in Canadian Forces ,same for CH-47. Canada replaced the AH-1 by an horrible kiowa aslo called 'mini-tat'.
We had aproximatly 40 AH-1 during 25 years (1960-1990) before replaced by cheap mini-tat due of the liberal party who declared canada don,t need combat helicopter. Like i said in 2007 they authorized (harper and mckay) a CH-146 with combat capability, and with afghanistan critic i'm probably sure canada purschase minimum 20-40 attack helicopter a essential tool for Canadian Forces such armoured regiment who really need attack or light recce helicopter for "escort"
The canadian military budget for 20years (not in 2030) but for 20years started since 2006, for 490 billion dollar, or aproximatly 96 billion per years ,right now 18.6 billion, when we know in 1990 the CF budget was 9 billion.
We, The CF, did not fly the AH-1 Cobra. We flew, prior to the Griffon, the Twin Huey. We have flown the Kiowa and the Chinook also. We have NOT flown the AH-64 Apache.
Are you kidding me i don't talk about present but in the past. Don't search your fact in wikipedia, do you really think this website can talking about the agent orange over gagetown, Mkultra during korea war for French canadian soldiers (royal 22eime régiment) or the secret war of CF during Vietnam War. Seriously don't search your fact on internet such Wikipedia.
Canada had AH-1 between 1960-1980s and Kiowa light attack helicopter/recce same of OH-58 light attack helicopter/recce.
Canada is in militarization ,that mean no more piece of shit equipement for peace mission such the LAV-III who are not configurated aswell for off-road. I understand canada are interested about CV90 since 1990s but Jean-chrétien purschase stupid piece of shit 8x8 LAV-III for peacekeaping and don't care about the IFV mission for escorting Leo1A5 or 2A6M like Paul Martin.
Canada NEVER had AH-1... Canada NEVER had AH-64, I am in the military! NEVER, you are dead wrong and have no idea what you are talking about. your reports are wrong, you are wrong. stop talking.
Okay, if you can provide me with a valid link that shows the CF flew the Cobra or Apache (operationally) I will glady apologize to you. I do appreciate that you are Pro-CF and try to make the CF look good, but when you put things into the public domain that are not true it does no one any good. I served for 21 years and have some experience in aircraft recognition. I served in Gagetown where the largest TacHel training Sqn is based. You can talk the talk, can you walk the walk??
the mini-tat was NEVER used, it was only used in test purposes on 2 helicopters. WE NEVER OWENED AH-1. Canada has NEVER had attack helicopters, who are you? you know nothing, everything you are saying is wrong. please stop talking about this. do some research you tool, show me one picture. NEVER HAD AH-1, you are wrong.
Canada does not own OH-58Ds at all. We used to operate OH-58A/B models years ago. If the CH-146 utilizes 2x M134D, there will be no room for troops and will purely be used in the escort role.
I know CF don't use OH-58 but the CH-146 with recce configuration use the similar configuration ,such true HD camera, new sensor and infrared camera and new google night vision. They're more faster than the OH-58 so that made the Bell 412 a better tool than the small blackbird.
the chinooks for now are going to be plain-jain CH-47D models straight from the 101st Airborne, they will recieve no weapons package. the griffs are the likely candidate to recieve the M134D gattling guns simply because the package includes the guns + HUEY installation kits. i would bet my left nut that there will be NO repeat NO hellfires, for 100 reasons, the biggest one being we dont own any and have never placed an order for any.
The CH-147D evalueted at 240 million dollar who canada receive resently don't have the M134D but a three 'C-6' machine gun (is a varriant of USMC i dont remember the name). But the CH-146 will be equiped with heavy firepower, that what petermckay said, for defence and the M134D are used for that job, defence with enought power to kill and destroy enemy forces on the ground.
Canada officially say eight CH-146 Griffon's will be send in Afghanistan, for the role of escort helicopter with the Joint Task Forces Afghanistan (JTFA). The JTFA as 6x CH-47D who will be operational in February 2009 and 1x Huron UAV (MALE, medium altitude long endurance), all based in Kandahar airfield (KAF). In late august 2008, canada declared Allies must protected our CH-47D with the attack helicopter from Netherland and USA, but finaly canada will upgrade the CH-146 for the role ofescort
The Griffon is, to an extent, a Huey helicopter, but with many additions and upgrades. Lots of R&D went into it for the CF. Now, if only we could actually use them as tactical lift helicopters in A-Stan, that would be lovely...
regarding the comment about we dont have attack helicopters - i heard a whisper that along with the call for reinforcement in Kandahar, the Canadian Forces have requested funding for attack helicopters.. not sure if it was attack helicopters though it could just be for more griffons.
if you remeber during the original gagetown trials, our Griffs were put through a weapons platform test, no sensors or guidance systems were tested, but the griffon theoretically was able to carry a 20mm gatling gun like that of the apache, a pair of AGM-114 hellfires and a .50 calibre gun pod, i have the pic of it if anyone is interested. anyways, the canadian governent has just ordered 3 M134 Dillion gatling guns, spare parts and 3 "huey" installation kits, so they are definately for the Grifs
you sent me that pic, and it is sooooo sick! it actually had 2 pairs of Hellfires, one pair on each side, and those 20mm Gattling guns for the door gunners...like the ones on the Blackhawk...and i think those gun pods were 30mm like on the Apache except fixated...what ever it is, it still would pwn!
we also have CRV rocket pods in our inventory and those have been tested on our griffs too, so in the near future, you will definately see Canadian gunships, weather or not they are going to afghanistan, its very possible in my mind, but the DND is denying everything right now..
I would like to see the CH-146 modified for combat for operational deployment in Afghanistan. The U.S. Marines were operating lesser powered UH-1N "Twin Hueys" for close support/escort roles to compliment the AH-1W Cobra flights in Afghanistan until July 2006. So obviously our more powered Griffs could do the job.
It would be so easy to modify a hand full of the Griffons to do this. All you need to do is nose mount the FLIR pod leaving both side pylons available for 2.75" Zuni rockets or 7.62mm machine gun pods and staple armoured floor panels to the cockpit and get some kevlar seats and BOOM, instand close support/escort helo for the troops!
Don't forget to remove all the avionics package from the Griffon, the biggest difference between the Griffon and the Twin Huey is the avionics. The PT6T-3D Twin pack on the Griffon is powerful but the Mast can't handle the twin packs full capabilities.
The Twins had (68)1/2 inch bolts used to hold 2 drive gears in the XMSN causing the Q limiting factor for the A/C. The griffons mast is the limiting factor. So 1/2 life the mast as civilian operators do and disregard the wind gust mast over torques. Up grade the ½ inch rigid fuel transfer lines with 1-1 ½ inch lines for proper HCCR. Add a M134 Gatling gun and a rocket pod and escort with 4crews (1 pilot, a FE / Co-Pilot and 2 door gunners).
Am I the only one that find that the music does not fit at all with the military content of the video ? Anyway, I liked it.

You have to join the CF as a AVN Tech first, become a corporal, 2 years after that you put a memo through your chain of command and hope you get an occupational transfer.

I found "strong messages" and could not finr video of an apache. Can you direct me to the specific time code for the video?

1:40 to 1:50m , its from the camera on the AH-64 i guess it's called HUD on the AH-64 i don't know i'm not in CAF.
Jimderkaisser 3 years ago
That footage is from a gunship HUD, but I will guarantee you it is not from a Canadian Apache. It happens all the time where an overenthusiastic layman puts footage together.
It may have even been added as Canadian footage during an ex in which the US Army participated. Regardless, I assure you that the Canadian Forces has NEVER flown (operationally) the AH-1 or AH-64. Again, if anyone has conclusive evidence to the contrary, present it and I will apologize.
cf80to01 3 years ago
I'm thinking its just someone on the ground with an Infrared cam.
I'm pretty sure all Apache's have cross hairs in their HUD's. Which we would see in this video.
I could be wrong but it definitely looks like its just a stationary infrared cam.

The rest of your points I won't argue with... the CF was screwed over by the Liberals. Maybe the economic downturn will work in the favour of the CF by having Harper support shipbuilding, Helo's, hercs and men.
cf80to01 3 years ago
For stimulated the economy with need build an army, that create jobs, stimulated economy and accelerated the modernization of CF. Just one week later, Mckay declared the decontamination of the north of canada with old cold war radar who were abondonned 50years ago.
That create job and made the program of "Green" from Conservator party who declared in 2006.

@CombatScent
Jimderkaisser 3 years ago
The CH-146 have HDMX15 since spring 2008 (19) for "Recce,Information, surveillance" ,40 for "escort" and the rest in normal tactical airlift, due of the new CH-147D/F acquission canada don't need CH-146 for this job, so yes the new CH-146 will be fitted with "CRV-7" pod that was a doccument in DND (Official website) from 2002 about a future attack conversion of CH-146.
Each Minigun cost 75,000$ (piece) and CRVpod cost much more than 10,000 for a new platform and protection plate for the crew.
Jimderkaisser 3 years ago
Jimderkaisser, I appreciate the conversation that you bring here but please stick to what you know. Most of the information that you are arguing here is completely wrong. I am a Flight Engineer on the CH-146 Griffon and I am laughing my ass off at all the false claims that you have made.
P.S. I am posted to CFB Borden and there are no C-17's or JTF2. C-17's are based out of 8 Wing Trenton and the JTF2 operate out of CFB Petawawa..
mzebiere 3 years ago 11
Borden, Trenton that made me wrong about the english canadian name who sound the same.
JTF-2 will be no longer from Trenton, not CFB Petawawa.
What wrong about CH-146, the Minigun? do you see army news about the training three week ago about CCA in CFB Edmonton.
My mistake, trenton and borden, what the next now, my english haha?
Jimderkaisser 3 years ago
The CH-146 have no firepower, and that since 2002 canada wanted more power for ground troop because, canada isn't in war but our armoured and inf are vunelerable by Enemy close-air support such A-10/AH-64 ect the only close-air support canada have is the CF-18 and we don't have much (only 80, the rest are "reserve" use). If you're a flight enineer for CH-146 you know about MX15 true HD from wescam (L-3, Longueuil) and know about the modernization and new horizion for CH-146 ,such Escort.
Jimderkaisser 3 years ago
Anyway Harper declared for Olympic game the plan of 40 air support, 20 recce, surveillance, information helicopter and the remaining as a normal tactical helicopter ,due of the new CH-47D/F capacity.
I understand CF wanted more CH-47F because the new F version for CF are way different from D, for an example the F who canada wanted have greater fueltank, can reach soldiers behind enemy line (Combat Search&Rescue), and much more firepower (maybe 4+1 gun position, when the normal have 2+1)
Jimderkaisser 3 years ago
JTF2 is based in neither CFB Borden, Trenton nor Petawawa.
cf80to01 3 years ago
THANK YOU! I was beginning to think I was out of touch with reality. (In relation to previous thread...) I did OJT at 403 TacHel in the early 80's and don't remember any Cobra's or Apache's on the flightline.
cf80to01 3 years ago
Well if you want, but i have the video ;), my grandfather was infected by Agent Orange and LSD during korea war, did you heard about experience in CF? I'm probably sure not because it's a secret of national security. Same for AH-64 and Cobra, who canada declared is a ultra lethal weapon (one of reason we don't have "firepower" for ground troop such close-air support).
Jimderkaisser 3 years ago
Jimderkaisser 3 years ago
Canada is a typical peace army ,and look what happened when hippy and communist came to the power in canada. Liberal canceled CV90 contract in 1993,and three years later purschase LAV-III, who are badly criticized in Afghanistan due of the poor off-road capacity.
In 2005 Gen. Rick Hillier said CF need martime capacity such LHD,LSD,LSP , Paul Martin authorized in 2003 the program "Joint Support Ship" and a varraint as "Amphibious Assault Ship" but the AAS was "canceled" for the priority the JSS.
Jimderkaisser 3 years ago
The JSS was cancelled this years, because the program cost 3 billion dollar for 3 ships (1 billion each), some sources such Dave Pugliese said "why not two like the Protecteur class" , the minister of defence peter mckay said "we need 3 not 2" but the Protecteur class are only two remaining and they does a great job. The plan are canceled in 28 august 2008, the famous key role and new design for military vessels with COGOG engine (Canadian made).
Jimderkaisser 3 years ago
In 2006 after the JSS and AAS project, and in 2005 when Rick Hillier siad we need Amphibious capcity, during the stupid israeli/lebanon war in 2006 Canada evacuated 30,000 canadian in one months...that was the most catastrophic and unorganized evacuation in all canadian history, due of the low capacity of maritime/airforces and army.
In 2006 Harper came in power and authorized the canadian militarization program aslo called "canadian First Defence", passed miserable 60,000 soldiers to up 90,000
Jimderkaisser 3 years ago
Harper cancelled the JSS program because in 2003 Paul Martin who own a RO-RO and LO-Lo shipyard industry don't mind about CF capacity.
The program was not good for the price (to much expensive for 3 AORS/AOPS). This years he talked about a possibility of 2 LHD (Landing Dick Helicopter) or greater capacity such LSD Dock Landing Ship, with 100-150 crew (for example, the Halifax class as 250 personal).
The LSD/LHD capacity is a new sealift capacity for CF, the last time was during WW2 and 1970.
Jimderkaisser 3 years ago
At this declaration he claim the future plan of 25 CH-148 in option to 55 CH-148 maritime helicopter and a possibility of 10 CH-47F for maritime capacity. Since 2006 CF have a sort of "US Marines Corps" , but with only 350 member and Gen. Rick Hillier said CF can reach 1000 for 2010. Is nothing with USMC who have 200,000 soldiers on this military branch.
The CFMC is more like the new CSOR but for navy, with special forces capacity , isn't like normal military branch such Candian LandCommand.
Jimderkaisser 3 years ago
Jimderkaisser 3 years ago
Half of CF equipment are from 1960s, many can't fly such CF-18 some of our CF-18 can't participated in action combat in future, only patrol or sold to scrap due of the high acceleration of end life. In 2001 Jean-Chrétien said "why nobody takecare about canadian army" because our soldiers in 2002 was in green unfirom, and at this time canada had no airlift capacity because the C-130 are cheap and old.
In 2009 the military budget its approximately 20 billion per years, right now 19 billion.
Jimderkaisser 3 years ago
Agent Orange is no secret. Their is a large lawsuit related to it from civvies/personnel posted to/living near CFB Gagetown in the 60's. My Transport WO in 2 RCR in the 80's was ex-Black Watch and pointed out a field where they had buried empty and unused drums of it after testing.
PLEASE post the video of Canadian Armed Forces Cobra's and/or Apache's. I would love to see it and will gladly apologize once I have.
cf80to01 3 years ago
My video of AH-64 is on one of my lasted video, is a "HUD" camera from 1990s (the only i have) and some "hell fire" firing during an exercise in 1998 with three branch cooperation air, sea, ground forces.
Jimderkaisser 3 years ago
A HUD will not show nationality of operation. You have to provide me with unedited video of a flight of Canadian Armed Forces Cobra's/Apache's. Of course there is HUD video of Cobra's & Apache's over Canadian Forces, they provide tacair support to us as we don't have our own. I don't consider a Griffon as a reasonable substitute for a helicopter gunship.
cf80to01 3 years ago
Me too i don't consider the griffon as a good substitute of light attack helicopter/recce but that work for USMC in afghanistan.
Watch all my resent video (Strong Messages) you can see one video of CF apach AH-64 in 1998 during a large exercise (probably the largest in CF history) with over 6,000 soldiers from air, army, navy.
Jimderkaisser 3 years ago
I was on RV81 and RV89 and both were well over 6,000 personnel. You have to remember that we were still commited in FRY in '98 and so had a lot less troops to send on a BIG ex. The military budget was 12 billion in 1990 to be 9 billion in 2001 for finaly 18.6 billion in 2008 and 24 billion for 2011 and finaly in 2031 for 96 billion.

hbkfitz 3 years ago
Jimderkaisser 3 years ago
The 'reconnaisence, surveillance, inteligence' helicopter use similar capacity from the light recon helicopter aslo called as 'OH-58' but with much more capacity and more faster and better armed. The 'escort' is a CH-146 with CRV-7,maybe Hellfire(not sure) and 2x M134D minigun or 2x C-6 machine gun (originaly founded on the CH-146) the tactical helicopter use basic configuration ,one mounted gun C-6 and 13 seat.
Jimderkaisser 3 years ago
100% guarantee NO HELLFIRES ever for Canadian CH-146s.
CombatScent 3 years ago
They can be configurated with Hellfire, CRV-7 and 2x M134D , because the UH-1 'Huey' from USMC use the identical configuration and the UH-1 are much older and the HP engine are less powerfull than the Bell 412 so if USMC can fitted heavy armed configuration the CH-146 can for sure and anyway that is from 20 years ago canada try to acquired another attack helicopter after the 25 years AH-1 cobra (lease), after that canada purschase 'mini-tat' a horrible Kiowa with Minigun under the helicopter.
Jimderkaisser 3 years ago
canada will not use hellfire... trust me.
CombatScent 3 years ago
we don't know the configuration about the CH-146 Griffon's , so how you can say is imposibile canada can use it? Canadian Airforces had during up 10 years the previous version of Hellfire on AH-1, before cutting budget in 1990s by Liberal Party (jean-chrétien and Paul Martin) who himself (J-C) said "Why nobody care about Canadian Forces" in 2001 after our forces were sent in Afghanistan with green CADPAT..this guy who cutt 10billion dollar said "Why nobody care about CF"...ridiculous haha
Jimderkaisser 3 years ago
canada has never owned or operated the AH-1.
CombatScent 3 years ago
Yes canada owner and operated the AH-1 , i read an article in DND website about the armed version of CH-146 from 2002. In 2005 the first time a decleration by the former minister of defence declared we need them, in 2007 that was officialy accepted a CH-146 converted in a combat helicopter.
I have doccument talking about 10 AH-64 were operated between 1990-2000s in Canadian Forces ,same for CH-47. Canada replaced the AH-1 by an horrible kiowa aslo called 'mini-tat'.
Jimderkaisser 3 years ago
We had aproximatly 40 AH-1 during 25 years (1960-1990) before replaced by cheap mini-tat due of the liberal party who declared canada don,t need combat helicopter. Like i said in 2007 they authorized (harper and mckay) a CH-146 with combat capability, and with afghanistan critic i'm probably sure canada purschase minimum 20-40 attack helicopter a essential tool for Canadian Forces such armoured regiment who really need attack or light recce helicopter for "escort"
Jimderkaisser 3 years ago
The canadian military budget for 20years (not in 2030) but for 20years started since 2006, for 490 billion dollar, or aproximatly 96 billion per years ,right now 18.6 billion, when we know in 1990 the CF budget was 9 billion.
Jimderkaisser 3 years ago
We, The CF, did not fly the AH-1 Cobra. We flew, prior to the Griffon, the Twin Huey. We have flown the Kiowa and the Chinook also. We have NOT flown the AH-64 Apache.
cf80to01 3 years ago
Are you kidding me i don't talk about present but in the past. Don't search your fact in wikipedia, do you really think this website can talking about the agent orange over gagetown, Mkultra during korea war for French canadian soldiers (royal 22eime régiment) or the secret war of CF during Vietnam War. Seriously don't search your fact on internet such Wikipedia.
Canada had AH-1 between 1960-1980s and Kiowa light attack helicopter/recce same of OH-58 light attack helicopter/recce.
Jimderkaisser 3 years ago
Canada is in militarization ,that mean no more piece of shit equipement for peace mission such the LAV-III who are not configurated aswell for off-road. I understand canada are interested about CV90 since 1990s but Jean-chrétien purschase stupid piece of shit 8x8 LAV-III for peacekeaping and don't care about the IFV mission for escorting Leo1A5 or 2A6M like Paul Martin.
Jimderkaisser 3 years ago
Difference between liberal and conservator are
Liberal Party:
- Always buying piece of shit equipement
- cuts in military budget
- Always participated in Peace mission..
Conservative Party:
- Always purschase big and high cost equipement, such the CF-18 fleet in 1970s
- Always made army the priority
- Always participated in NATO mission for war
Fuck peace, canada need to be a warrior like 400years we're from Europe and our ancestor always fought for the right choice such Liberty.

Canada has NEVER had attack helicopters, who are you? you know nothing, everything you are saying is wrong. please stop talking about this. do some research you tool, show me one picture. NEVER HAD AH-1, you are wrong.
CombatScent 3 years ago
Canada does not own OH-58Ds at all. We used to operate OH-58A/B models years ago. If the CH-146 utilizes 2x M134D, there will be no room for troops and will purely be used in the escort role.
CombatScent 3 years ago
I know CF don't use OH-58 but the CH-146 with recce configuration use the similar configuration ,such true HD camera, new sensor and infrared camera and new google night vision. They're more faster than the OH-58 so that made the Bell 412 a better tool than the small blackbird.
Jimderkaisser 3 years ago
the chinooks for now are going to be plain-jain CH-47D models straight from the 101st Airborne, they will recieve no weapons package. the griffs are the likely candidate to recieve the M134D gattling guns simply because the package includes the guns + HUEY installation kits. i would bet my left nut that there will be NO repeat NO hellfires, for 100 reasons, the biggest one being we dont own any and have never placed an order for any.
CombatScent 3 years ago
The CH-147D evalueted at 240 million dollar who canada receive resently don't have the M134D but a three 'C-6' machine gun (is a varriant of USMC i dont remember the name). But the CH-146 will be equiped with heavy firepower, that what petermckay said, for defence and the M134D are used for that job, defence with enought power to kill and destroy enemy forces on the ground.
Jimderkaisser 3 years ago
Canada officially say eight CH-146 Griffon's will be send in Afghanistan, for the role of escort helicopter with the Joint Task Forces Afghanistan (JTFA). The JTFA as 6x CH-47D who will be operational in February 2009 and 1x Huron UAV (MALE, medium altitude long endurance), all based in Kandahar airfield (KAF). In late august 2008, canada declared Allies must protected our CH-47D with the attack helicopter from Netherland and USA, but finaly canada will upgrade the CH-146 for the role ofescort

regarding the comment about we dont have attack helicopters - i heard a whisper that along with the call for reinforcement in Kandahar, the Canadian Forces have requested funding for attack helicopters.. not sure if it was attack helicopters though it could just be for more griffons.
iamafuckingidiot 4 years ago
if you remeber during the original gagetown trials, our Griffs were put through a weapons platform test, no sensors or guidance systems were tested, but the griffon theoretically was able to carry a 20mm gatling gun like that of the apache, a pair of AGM-114 hellfires and a .50 calibre gun pod, i have the pic of it if anyone is interested. anyways, the canadian governent has just ordered 3 M134 Dillion gatling guns, spare parts and 3 "huey" installation kits, so they are definately for the Grifs
UNSOF 4 years ago
you sent me that pic, and it is sooooo sick! it actually had 2 pairs of Hellfires, one pair on each side, and those 20mm Gattling guns for the door gunners...like the ones on the Blackhawk...and i think those gun pods were 30mm like on the Apache except fixated...what ever it is, it still would pwn!
spitfire690 3 years ago
we also have CRV rocket pods in our inventory and those have been tested on our griffs too, so in the near future, you will definately see Canadian gunships, weather or not they are going to afghanistan, its very possible in my mind, but the DND is denying everything right now..
