There has been pushback from Congress and the astronauts have helped with that.. this has made the Obama Administration reevaluate its kill NASA program. Now the new Heavy Lift program and the continuation of the Orion capsule mission will probably ensure a new moon landing program as a testbed for the Mars mission. The comment Anders made was silly though. Yes we want to go to Mars.
From a U.S point point of view, it could seem like a waste, since the Constellation program has been canceled and Russia will be responsible for the launches to the ISS. But the foremost of technology is being explored by NASA at Mars, albeit by robot probes, but they are the closest to discovering life, or signs of previous life. A big clue to finding life on other planets. A Moon base would serve no real purpose except to determine the effects of long term low-gravity on humankind
actually it would have took him a lot longer to reach captain if he had not flown in space. After each spaceflight the millitairy astronauts would move up a rank.
jeezus...that anchorman has not served in the military...thats for sure, because he does not know about the difference between a commander and a naval captain. I´m pretty sure good ol´shakey would have preferred to be called captain, because thats the rank he retired with and it took him a long time to achieve whereas he was only a commander of A13 for 3 years maybe.Anyways...Lovell is right in any aspect.
