Any way the airplanes were in Colombia for 6 months. When the negotiation fell because Antonov's lack of money at those hectic times of the fall of the Soviet Union and unable to come at front with a civil certification they were flown back to Kiev Ukraine. I fell sad at the time because the airplane was a good utilitarian airplane for a Country as Colombia.
The performance of the airplane was very good, easy to fly and fun to handle for unprepared very short runways with a 7 ton paid cargo load. Its tandem main landing gear C130 like, were very handy during muddy operations.
This airplane technologically speaking was a Russian made copy of the Boing YC 14 or vice versa.
This airplane is rely a hell of a good airplane (this plane was initially developed for the military) very strong, build like a russian tank (like must of that era russian planes) Avionics were middle 1960 technology. Cockpit was ample, seats for 2 pilots fly engineer, radio operator, navigator and cargo master and it had a Russian GPS system for long range navigation.
In 1993 when the Soviet Union was disintegrating they were selling everything from tanks, helicopters airplanes and you just name it. In Colombia we had an offer from Antonov (the factory in Kiev Ukraine) for two aircraft, one was a used in very good condition AN72 owned by the Moldavian government and the other was a AN74 owned by the factory, this was one use during Russian civil certification.
Why did create the conventional 300??? It defeats the point on the Coaler and at the same time complicates itself with the An-148, which is in the same class and did the same thing.
He said that the AN-74s engines were mounted above to reduce damage from dirt, actually, there is another reason. It increases lift on the wing at low speeds allowing it to achieve it's STOL capabilities
The engines were stationed above the wing to improve lift - the Coanda effect!
Simply stick the convex side of a spoon into a stream of running water for a quick and easy demonstration.

I don't like the 300 series for the same reason as MingGouli said 2 years ago and zedesxtreme8177 is very correct in it's appreciations.

@zedextreme8177 Correct. It lowers the air pressure above the wing and provides more lift.

@zedextreme8177 he says in the vid the top mounted jets disrupt the laminar airflow over the aerofoil reducing lift, hence the 300 design
