Please beg your daughter to wear long sleeves and jeans when riding. A helmet is only the start. Road rash hurts!! I have been riding for 17 years and always wear protective gear. I wiped out for the first time going 10 miles per hour just last month. The only part of me that got scraped up was the only part of me not covered by clothing -- my hands...if I had been wearing gloves they would have been safe. Scars are ugly.
@tanhatOnekama She wears more gear now, thanks. I've had two wrecks myself and have never received any rash, thanks to my gear. I did sustain a broken ankle but my moto boot saved it from a worse injury.
i'm 14 and i just got that same exact bike (99 rebel, right?) well, we got it and took it up to the school and rode it, and its pretty cool to be 14 on a real motorcycle, out on the street.
Well, it's a 2001 but same difference, right? I know how you feel, I still get that feeling myself all these years later. I had a wreck today, somebody hit me on my DR650 and there was nothing I could do to avoid it. You be careful.
I broke my ankle because they hit me right on the ankle with their SUV bumper. My motorcycle boot kept it from being shattered, according to the Doc. The DR650 is a Suzuki dual-sport bike. I had left my Triumph at home. Cheers.
Well, they said about 8 to 10 weeks before I could go back to work as a UPS man, so I'm guessing probably a couple weeks before that. Which means until the end of winter, so no sweat.
If my nephew sees this video, he'll want me to buy him one! But out here in Commiefornia, sales tax is 10%... so we have to settle for a lecture about how our heavy-handed government ruins life for us.
Well, the lecture will do him good. I got this bike used for about 1800 bucks, so even ten percent sales tax wouldn't be too bad. Luckily, here in Arkansas I paid no sales tax as the bike was below the minimum price for taxes on vehicles.
that vid was great. what a cool dad! hope your daughter is enjoying riding. My boys are 14 and their mother is paranoid about letting them out on my bike
She is enjoying it but still hasn't gotten her license as she is trying to memorize the whole book, which is fine with me. She recently rode my Bonneville and did very well. Plus she told me that she's been observing me when I drive, trying to learn what I do, so that's good.
man this is great! what a great dad! proof that if you your kids trusts you and with some guidance they will rise to the challenge. This is going to be bragging rights for your daughter for years to come. "yeah my dad taught me to ride when i was 15!'' that's pretty cool. I didn't learn till I was 28. haha
How's the Honda Rebel for a beginner? I plan on getting one once I get my permit. I'm 15 too, and I finally learned how to ride a dirtbike and shift gears and all that. I've been crazy about riding ever since!
Watching this and the one w/ you on it makes me smile. Smile like the other youtube vide where the dad gives her daughter a Suzuki GS500 - it's at this number watch?v=460a-94sKGE (YT wobn't let me post the url)
I've seen riders w/ 4 days of rider training not as accomplished. Well done & doing well.
Question: Where do you find such unused parking areas?
Yep, she is riding in figure 8's after this was shot. She has really had a breakthough with the day she had yesterday. Of course now we have four days of rain forecast and then it's back to work for me. I'm not letting her ride by herself haha.

Get her to take the MSF course. Much more beneficial than reading a book.

That will be in her future as well, thanks.

Thanks. Yeah, I didn't learn until I was 22. She benefits from having a bike-mad father.

It's perfect for a beginner. It's lightweight and it stalls out when you mess up the clutch instead of taking off by itself.

Thanks for the compliment for my daughter. The parking lot is at a church\school in a residential neighborhood, near my parents' house.

Looking nice and steady, she should ride in BIG figure 8's instead of circles, and she already did 1/2 of one 0:50
I can see a good rider in the making nice on Keely 5*
