The Bonnie Blue flag was the national flag of the short lived Republic of West Florida. Pensacola was the capitol. If membery serves the nation lasted all of about six months.
Texas and Missouri. Most know about the Lone Star Flag. The Missouri flag, well take a look at the Missouri State Guard flag and The 1st National and is EASY to see
It seems pretty clear that Georgia added in the "Stars and Bars" in 1956 in defiance of the desegration going on in the South at the time.
The Stars and Bars in a state flag is pretty inflammatory in today's PC world...that's why Georgia changed their flag...the sophisiticated folks in Atlanta didn't like the connotation of the "Stars and Bars"...
@EdwardRommel The "sophisticated folks in Atlanta" are clueless. The "stars and bars" is what you call their current flag. Georgia has always had a Confederate flag and they still do.
@EdwardRommel the battle flag in georgias flad isnt the stars and bars, thats the first national and looke like georgisa flag today. the x pattern conferate flag is officially known as the battle flag, not stars and bars
The state flag of Kentucky is a variation of the Virginia state flag which a variation of the Bonnie Blue Flag. Also Texas state flag was a variation of the Bonnie Blue and Confederate First National.
@Luigi84289 The current Texas flag was used as a form of secession from Mexico, along with the Bonnie Blue which served as the first flag of the Republic of Texas from 1835-39. In the Civil War, the bonnie blue flag was used by the confederacy as a flag of independence.
@LSskimandsk8 We had the burnet flag but that was a gold star. I have one of those somewhere around here. We had already fought the revolution at the time and had a government. There were a few incidents before we joined the US but we maintained control. I guess it could be looked at as a secession flag since Mexico wouldn't recognize our independence at the time.
@Southernjuggalo63 The State of Texas uses the last flag of the Republic of Texas. But the bonnie blue was once a flag of the Republic of Texas, before the burnet flag was used.
@Luigi84289 Correction. The Texas flag was taken from the Bonnie Blue for the Republic of West Florida which was founded in 1810 but was taken by General Andrew Jackson about two years later. Because it was in existence for about two years it is not common knowledge versus Texas due to their rebellion.
It had a very, very similar design, which could be taken as just about the same, with just a few color variations and drawing style. The flag was also blue, the motto was on the same position. Virginians also flew several designs that were taken after that flag, again with just a few color variations and paterns, but same seal and motto.
Good vid! Thanks for putting NC in this one. The Blue field in the current NC flag is in memory of Bonnie Blue. We shall never forget what our ancestors endured trying to stand against a bloated, centralised and over reaching federal government. That government devastated the Southorn economy with huge tariffs and taxes against the goods grown in the South.
Considering this variant of the CSA flag is nothing more than a altered Saint Andrew flag, who cares ? Let them fly it all they want.

Texas and South Carolina still have the same flag they carried in the War for Southern Independence.
Oklahoma's flag is inspired by the Confederate Choctaw flag that is in the Oklahoma History Center.

You forgot the Texas flag, it was actually used as a flag of secession all across the south. And the Texas flag used to be the Bonnie Blue.
LSskimandsk8 1 year ago 5
@LSskimandsk8 I was not aware of that. thanks

@LSskimandsk8 no it didn't The current Texas flag was created in 1839. It's a southern flag but is not a secession flag.

@LSskimandsk8 Though I would consider the bloody arm, the come and take it flag and the burnet to be better secession flags.
