Music like this is full of soul. Music today is soul-less. A few adolescents might dislike a song like this, but pity them, for they've been brainwashed by the corporate establishment.
I do have an alternate take where you can hear Bonham talking prior to the song starting. Its somewhat of a cleaner mix than what is heard on the fourth album.
Geez!!!!!!! Zeppelin IV, In my opinion its the greatest album of all time, every single one of the songs are mind bottling. Oooooh, And Zeppelin as a band, its like they were hand chosen together to come to earth and bring us all down a little bit of heaven with their music.
@ScorpionWing16 yeah remember Lennons reply to the question - is Ringo Starr the best drummer in the world - eh Ringo's not even the best drummer in the Beatles!! class!
OK, 90's kid here: this track has always reminded me of the original Spyro the Dragon video game. I know this came first, but Spyro came first for me, and this song always brings me back there. Interesting, because the composer for Spyro the Dragon was actually Stewart Copeland.
I started playing guitar because of them. Today I wrote and recorded an original song. If you want to hear how Led Zeppelin-inspired music sounds 2011 style click on wisztrock. I think you'll like it.
I don'tknow if the band knew that there music is felt in the the people that listen to it at the time they were making it...... it is something to feel music ....
@natash141 Not being snotty but you can't. There's at least two guitars playing that part, and more in the "B" parts. There doesn't seem to be much going on as far as effects, a little reverb maybe.
Much as I love Page's guitar playing, sometimes I think he should be more famous for his production. It's very raw and he spoke of the feel being more important than getting everything note perfect. If you compare Page to, say Jeff Beck (who I also like), it seems that Page is more about the emotion and less about virtuosity on the guitar. I think that's why songs like on 'Four Symbols', or 'Ten Years Gone' or 'That's the Way' will stand the test of time.
@Tyccc66 umm, he has the hi-hat pedal going in almost every song, and there are far more than just this song that he carried it through...you must not listen to much zep :(
Bonzo got into the studio--Pagey was oly one there-doin shit like patchin guitar parts-EQ'in-etc. Bonzo Blasts in-- and rips off his jacked and says "Jimmy ,Roll on my mike--Fuck Ginger Baker! (he was comin back from a Cream or Blind Faith show, and was all jacked) He grabbed 4 sticks 2 per hand and starts SLAMMIN Down this groove/onslaught of a beat-Pagey is in the booth with the mic' on and Bang, 4 Sticks !!! .Jimmy picks up an axe- lookin for a riff. dunno if he got one than morn. But TRUE!
@drnapls2 Dude. You like Creed. Creed is possibly the worst band right next to.... actually they just suck. Please save your immature rants for something more useful. You looked this video up just you could spam it. Are you like 10? I usually don't comment on stuff on youtube, but you can't just leave a comment to be an asshole, you asshole.
Greatest rock and roll band ever. Not before and not since have 4 guys meshed so well together. Its a beautiful thing when you stop and think about it. And when you hear songs like this one, songs you cant get out of your head, you know you've fallin in love with them all over again.
This is one of their best songs, (there are many) have this on DVD as Page & Plant and give the neighbors heaps with the volume up on 11, love the Zeps
Needless to say i love this song ha, probably my favourite by the band. I didn't notice how powerful the drumming was in this for a while, can really get the blood pumping. Think on misty mountain hop you can really feel the drumming in that aswell, another of my favourites.
This majestic mini-epic is an underrated favorite. At first listen it seems like a filler song but it's totally vital to the flow and diversity of the fourth album by being the only song on the set to represent Zep's Arabic leanings. And, of course, another indestructible Page riff and their one-of-a- kind bombastic raunch are pluses too.
It has been written that John Bonham could cause seismic waves with his drumming. One question: Does anyone know how he played the four sticks on this number? Did he use one above the other like spoons...? It sounds like it--that 'clicky-click' sound one hears....
@andersoncouncilpf nothing special compared to Led Zeppelin when a band has one of the greatest guitarists, one of the greatest singers and one of the greatest drummers ever..
Just for information out of respect for the band I consider the second greatest modern musical act by far (over my third, fourth, fifth... choices) is that this album is the 'Untitled', not 'Led Zeppelin IV'. There is no Led Zeppelin IV because Zep wanted an untitled album on purpose to see if the supposedly 'hyped' Led Zeppelin could sell an untitled album. Great song.
