Saw Modern Eon live supporting the stranglers at Hammersmith Odeon in 1981. Bought the album the next day. Keep looking for CD release... But to no avail!
One of the best tracks ever done in the eighties very underated and missed band Brilliant, haven't stopped listening to this track for three days had the album but lost it in a move Gutted!! Oh to have Fiction Tale on cd!!!
Yes, they are. I heard that the band drummer Cliff Hewitt wished and worked very hard to reissue Fiction Tale on CD contains "some fantastic additional bits and pieces". He had meetings with other members, gathered a lot of stuff, did an interview for the Mojo magazine, talked to record labels... but in May 2009, he found the reissue has become uncertain due to a financial issue caused by EMI, license holder for most tracks.
I also heard Cliff said though the band is trying to solve the problem, at this moment (May 2009) it cannot be said if EMI will come to an agreement with them.
I first heard Modern Eon in a record shop in Amsterdam. I asked the geezer who it was. Bought the album. Listened to it loads back then. If memory serves me right, which is suspect, the drummer was only 16. They had a distinctive enough sound to make it, but maybe not the cutting edge lyrics. Back then, lyrically, there was loads of competition; it was like a goldfish bowl with pirhanna fish for company.
The unfortunate thing about the 80's - is that - well at least in North America - very little of the interesting music reached the radio and we were stuck listening to Hall & Oates, Rick Springfield and Loverboy
I haven't heard this track before. I only know the stunning "Euthenics" which is so stunning. This also has that amazing infectious sound that one can get lost in such beauty. I love the fact that in the very late 70's and early 80's it seems all these wonderful scenes from Liverpool to London to Sheffield all had there own brand of New Wave and Experimental music. Liverpool sound seems to have more of a darkness than anywhere, such deep presence of beauty ***
Just read a reappraisal of "Fiction Tales" in new Mojo (currently unavailable boo) and it made me want to dig out my copy but can't find it (probably gave it away in a moment of madness years ago). LOVED LOVED LOVED this. Another similar slice of brilliance is "Good Technology" by the Red Guitars....
Played this song in SF when I did late night College radio. Still have the 7" but no more record player! Best era of new music...when "new music" was really new and original.
one of best track ever ! I thought also I was the only one in the world to love this band, I have the vinyl for so many years, I love the desperate voice filled with reverberation. If you like MOdern Eon you will love other lost bands like The Sound (bye Adrian Borland- we'll never forget you) and Modern english
I have always loved this lot! I have the album still from '81 and collected the singles over the years. Really takes me back to another time. What a great track this is. Glad to see there are others out there as well...

M<odern Eon, Modern English, The Comsat Angels...
There were a lot of good bands around in the early 80's that I thought would make it, but never did. Nice to hear this one again, thanks.

They were quite a young band back in the day - I'm keen to get this reissued on CD. I wonder if the band are interested?
