this system is beast i just ordered one of these a few days ago with 2 games and im waiting for it in the mail im quite interested in the games for it even though i understand little japanese i love nec and the games that came out for their systems i dont know many games on their systems that actually suck i think these sexy beast is a great piece of gaming history that should be owned by hardcore gamers and hopefully some people should start homebrewing for this system :) btw man love the vid
@ScrewAttackEurope If you looking for an FMV game where you can speak English easily, get a CD-i. But if you're looking for a system that doesn't have games that bastardize Mario and Zelda and has more good games than bad, I'd say get a PC-FX, even if you may not know Japanese.
@gshowguy Zenki looks like a blast....really a game designed for what the system could do.....I just can't shell out the $350+ on ebay....maybe I will come across a copy....one day....next to the winning lottery ticket and the unicorn...
I would've loved to see the Bonk's Adventure and Legendary Axe games getting 3D treatment on the PC-FX... if NEC and Hudson kept working on the system and allowing 3D support instead of rushing it out with just 2D support to compete with the 3D-focused PS1 and Saturn.
I have an old EGM from 1996, and one page showed a collection of Japanese systems-- PC-FX being one of them (even though it was just described as "NEC FX"). I really wish I could get this system despite its price and the majority of slutty, not-so-kid-friendly games on this thing.
@gshowguy Other than serious collecting....I do not recommend picking this system up.....without any knowledge of Japanese it is almost impossible to enjoy anything about it....only a couple of very expensive action titles can really be played without needing to read text....check out ZENKI on ebay......
Man, when I first seen this thing in an old 1994/1995 edition of Gamefan magazine, I was completely hyped! It had a very cool and presentable design, and the screenshots of the games made it look epic. Unfortunately, practically every game released on it was FMV, dating sims and hentai. What few action games, shooters and RPGs there were are now incredibly rare and expensive. I too was very disappointed in this system's failure, it should've been backwards compatible too with PC Engine CD too.
The one thing I find with these hardware reviews is that unless you're subscribed to that particular channel, they're not that easy to find.
I'd just wish that youtubers would just make their titles read something like "PC FX system review" . This way it would show up for most people using the search function and get many more views. There are are a ton of really great hardware reviews out there with hardly any views simply because the title of the video doesn't easily show up
I remember seeing this in a gaming magazine too back in the day. They showed it with Snatcher and I had no idea what that was at the time (never seen the PCE or SCD version then) and I remember looking at the system like "What the heck it's upright?" I thought that was so strange at the time. They showed the back to and I was like WTF is that 4 prong jack for? Yeah it looked interesting but I had no idea what it was at all!
If there's my system to be sad about its failure, it's the amazing Sega Dreamcast.

It's got to be a toss up between this and the CD-i as the greatest FMV game player!

@gshowguy Are there any platform games for the machine at all?
ScrewAttackEurope 1 year ago
@ScrewAttackEurope As far as PC-FX goes, only "Zenki" comes to mind. And I've heard it's actually a fun game.
