A solo lion would find it hard on open plains in Africa. For males once driven out of a pride it is also fear that drive them to form coalitions. Tigers during certain time of their lives are social too. Besides with moms, if there are more than 1 in a litter after leaving mom they stick to each other. Reluctance of sharing separate them.
The drawings represent CaveLions! They Lived between 10,000 & 40,000 years ago! They were 25% larger than their African Cousins of today! This was due to the size of the prey animals of that time e.g The Great Mammoth! Of course there were far fewer humans too! @hmongty37 Tigers do tend to weigh a bit more on average and tend to be longer from head to tail, but lions on average are taller at the shoulder and tend to have a more powerful face-to-face fighting style: Tigers' paw swipes are quick as hell but Lions tend to strike with all of their weight, attempting to get their opponent on the ground, for obvious reasons. Tiger vs. Lion is very much a fair fight.

Tigers are solitary animal and hence they needed to more stronger and larger than lion as they have to live on jungles where preys are also larger. A lion on its own cannot hunt a wild buffalo , but tiger hunts wild gaur which is 50 % bigger and stronger than buffalo.

But as tiger population expand , they actively killed almost all of the lions except a few in only one state.People who say lion are stronger or powerful than tiger , probably never have seen a real tiger. This is not a "rip off from big cat diary." This is a well done, 2-hour program attempting to explain --- using footage from different sources, including "Big Cat Diary," the Serengeti Lion Project, etc. --- the EVOLUTION of why lions are, among all big cats, the only species that forms prides, with males actively helping females to help raise their offspring. Big Cat Diary is just a series of aimless shows on lions hunting for food and fighting with other neighbors... Big difference...
I'm 14 minutes into this program and my guess is that the primary driving force for forming prides is due to the hyena because they are very social and its no secret that them and lions are arch enemies... that'll probably be ruled out later in the program but that's my guess
In Scott's own humble but sound approach, he laid out the reason why, in general, in very complex circumstances, you need a lot more evidence to make some sound observations about phenomena in nature... more than, say, looking out one's window, during a prolonged winter of snow & ice & declare "global warming is a hoax." From one's windows, in 1 or 2 winters, it's not easy to see that most giant glaciers in the world have lost 50-90% of their AVERAGE masses in the last 30 years alone....
As long as you people do your research from a distance am ok with it. Many so called researchers contain these animals to conditions not fit for any living thing on earth, carry out rediculous test all in the name of some discovery. I believe these animals belong free just as we are. And we should not support circusses, or such things that keep animals captive for amusement.
It's all about real estate. I was half right. I thought it had to do with the large numbers of migrating animals but basically its who can hold the best chunk of land.
But time & time again, like "Romeo" here did ( & he's either had his fill or not eating at all, because the kill seemed to be a small pig, caught by the mothers, & likely snatched away from them by Romeo, no doubt), actively chasing the mothers away --- when they cleverly roll ever closer to the two feeding cubs --- only to return to sit vigilantly by the cubs, making sure they could have their fill.... that's truly extraordinary, for such a brutish and impulsive pride male.
I've seen many clips of pride males passively allowing small cubs to feed with them, even allowing the very small ones to nibble right where their powerful teeth have just torn open hard muscles, allowing the babies to pick on the soft meat. But, that's usually when there's a lot of food, like a huge carcass in their midst, and in which case mothers too are very tolerant, allowing the babies to climb all over everyone, to get their tiny shares...

@hmongty37 Tigers do tend to weigh a bit more on average and tend to be longer from head to tail, but lions on average are taller at the shoulder and tend to have a more powerful face-to-face fighting style: Tigers' paw swipes are quick as hell but Lions tend to strike with all of their weight, attempting to get their opponent on the ground, for obvious reasons. Tiger vs. Lion is very much a fair fight.

@MMitan - actually you are wrong. Tigers are actually bigger, stronger and more aggressive and also cunning.Aslo they are much more agile. It has more to do with the environment and the lifestyle. Tigers are solitary animal and hence they needed to more stronger and larger than lion as they have to live on jungles where preys are also larger. A lion on its own cannot hunt a wild buffalo , but tiger hunts wild gaur which is 50 % bigger and stronger than buffalo.

But as tiger population expand , they actively killed almost all of the lions except a few in only one state.People who say lion are stronger or powerful than tiger , probably never have seen a real tiger. Tiger in any day , is superior to lion. More powerful , more strongly build , fast runner , more agile and overall more lethal predator.

This is a well done, 2-hour program attempting to explain --- using footage from different sources, including "Big Cat Diary," the Serengeti Lion Project, etc. --- the EVOLUTION of why lions are, among all big cats, the only species that forms prides, with males actively helping females to help raise their offspring. Big Cat Diary is just a series of aimless shows on lions hunting for food and fighting with other neighbors... Big difference...

I'm 14 minutes into this program and my guess is that the primary driving force for forming prides is due to the hyena because they are very social and its no secret that them and lions are arch enemies... that'll probably be ruled out later in the program but that's my guess

But time & time again, like "Romeo" here did ( & he's either had his fill or not eating at all, because the kill seemed to be a small pig, caught by the mothers, & likely snatched away from them by Romeo, no doubt), actively chasing the mothers away --- when they cleverly roll ever closer to the two feeding cubs --- only to return to sit vigilantly by the cubs, making sure they could have their fill.... that's truly extraordinary, for such a brutish and impulsive pride male.

I've seen many clips of pride males passively allowing small cubs to feed with them, even allowing the very small ones to nibble right where their powerful teeth have just torn open hard muscles, allowing the babies to pick on the soft meat. But, that's usually when there's a lot of food, like a huge carcass in their midst, and in which case mothers too are very tolerant, allowing the babies to climb all over everyone, to get their tiny shares...
