i am aussie , and i love it . i live in the outbackand love that too. this sounds so much like what we do. on christmas eve my family (and auntys, uncles, cousin,ect) have a bbq at my place . christmas day at my aunties and boxing day is out at the river/dam(when its full) . they all have utes , we go swimming , uncle falls to sleep and we play cricket in the heat. sounds fun (cas it is)
