FragFX PS3 Comparison/Review

Hey Guys! Corhellion here, giving you a bit of an update.

I recently got a replacement PS3 slim and tried to hook up my FragFX to it, turns out the one of the newer PS3 firmwares (3.50 or 3.55) made the FragFX V1 (the model I have) obsolete. So, for the mean time, I'm FragFX-less. However the awesome guys at Splitfish have a deal that if you're an affected customer and still have the V1 and have upgraded you can get the V2 for $20 off. So, in the next little while you'll see more vids from me!

@ps3kids not sure if you're trolling or what not...but the sixaxis controllers have dualshock 3 printed on them, right above where it says sixaxis.

@corhellion Not really, six-axis don't have rumble. So they are lighter but lack the rumble.

I don't think you can get them anymore though, since the dualshock 3 is the same design but with a rumble feature.

That's the kind of precision I was looking for. Just got a PS3 system and was quite disappoint of not being able to play an FPs (or even an Third Person Shooter) properly. Instant death for me, couldn't enjoy any game that relies on aiming and shooting. Now I'm saved, I never thought that would be already a solution for that :D

@Kazuia20 I'm sure you can, even though I checked out your vids (Which are played on 360, and the 360 controller is different than the DS3). But, I've seen players with crazy skill on the controller, I'm just more used to the mouse (grew up with it I guess you could say.)

v1 is still better than v2 because of the sensitivity .

V2 consist Fast and hard to aim but V1 is smooth but slow a bit you can fix this on the configuration while V2 unable to config slower

It's a mouse controller for the PS3.

It's *almost* as good as using a keyboard and mouse.

I hold it up at the 6:55 mark so you can pause there to see what it actually looks like.

I used it to play the BFBC2 Beta, it was a bit slow in movements, but for sniping, it's awesome.

And after a while, about 20-30 minutes of play you get used to the slow mouse speed and compensate for it. Atleast I did.

I saw a guy comparing the two versions with and without the wire, the wireless version was very slow in movements

and the v1 with wire was just like on pc

but it might be a little slower, like you're saying.

I've heard a LOT of bad reviews from the wireless FragFX controllers. Sluggish movements and poor response time.

I haven't had any problems with my V1. Except trying to play games it's not really meant to be used with, like GTA4...don't use it with GTA4.

Yep, I tried it with the Beta.

If I recall, it worked alright, although the sensitivity was a bit off in some places. It was playable, and still gave you that mouse aim feel. But it just felt off by a fraction. I didn't test it all that much, so don't take my word for it.

Hey do you know if its possible to increase the Fire rate of the Turbo Fire setting on the controller? Been wondering that since I've seen videos where people shoot with a fricking revolver like it's a full automatic pistol lol...

I did a quick search and it turns out that the turbo/rapid fire setting is on the V.2 FragFX's.

I've got a V.1, so I wouldn't know.

Hey mate Try this out. Press The Frag button L3 button And R3 button the same time . There should be a red and blue light on the controller. And then just press the R1 button.

That is the Turbo fire activation on Frag FX v2. at least. Maybe works on your frax fx too. It gives a whole new meaning to FAL, FAMAS, M16, Magnum, and Striker... :D

hey you can increase the fire rate of the turbo fire with this: When you have pressed the Frag, L3 and R3 buttons press the up arrow button on the fragchuck to increase the fire rate after that press the R1 to "lock" the speed that you chose. In the Frag FX V2 there are 4-6 different speeds. The leds will blink faster when the speed is higher. Try it out. It takes some off the accurasy from FAL But gives firepower. Very good on low to mid range fights.

The frag fx compared to a XIM 1 is a piece of crap. The feel is not identical to pc. My friend bought a frag fx and I told him it was such a waste (I also tested it out). The frag FX feels slightly ''floaty''. My XIM1 feels like actual pc gaming plus I can assign macros.

Hi, Very nice video and review you have here. I just bought the new Wireless spitfish Dual SFX Frag Pro controller and I have to say it is probably worst accessory for Modern Warfare 2 in history,

The mouse doesnt react on small movements and when it does it warps... like if you try to make a ful circle with your mouse while aiming you will only be able to do a Pentagon. The drivers for the wireless version are totally crap at the moment. Have you tested it yet?

Would like hear other opinions.

I haven't yet. I'm in Canada and they don't show up very often. I got lucky getting mine (and my 2nd one) at a local Best Buy.

Have you tried tweaking the sensitivity? Both in game and on the fragfx.

You can try this, see if it works: Ingame: 10

FragFX: 2.5

It's what I'm using at the moment on my own FragFX.

If that doesn't help, the best thing I can tell you is to fire off an email to Splitfish to get them to release new drivers sooner.

Yeah I tryed that Still themouse makes more like a pentagon than a circle.. Haha and it's supposed to be Even better on aiming than any other controller available. Also Funny thing was that the Manual was infact the one from Frag FX so it doesnt even cover all the buttons lol. Going to take mine back to the shop where I bought it. It seems The Fragchuck is busted too since it shows blue and red light the same time and when I tap L1 Button three times it completely looses the signal-> red light

Sounds like a bad egg. Take it back and get a replacement.

It seems to be hit or miss for the FragFX's. People have good stories and horror stories. There's not middle ground. It either works awesomely, or it doesn't.

Depending on which game you play the sensitivity on the games and the FragFXs vary.

For example, the Call of Duty Series. Use the ingame settings of 10 and a setting of 2-2.5 on the FragFX.

Although just be aware that some games it's still better to use the controller over the FragFX. GTA4, MGS4 and Dead Space all fall into this category. GTA4 is unplayable with the FragFX, but MGS4 and DS *can* be played, the camera is just a little sluggish.

no you cant play games with regular mouse and keyboard except Unreal tournament If you want to play on mouse you have to buy FragFx v 2 for ps3 its like ps3 joystick and mouse joined together

You can use the FragFX on ALL PS3 games. Although it sometimes is better to use the Dualshock3 instead, perfect example of this is GTA4, I tried the FragFX with it and the controls were extremely sluggish and not made for it.

I've tried the FragFX with the following games:

Resistance1: Works perfect

Cod4: Works perfect

CodWaW: Works perfect

DeadSpace: A Bit slow but it works fairly well.

GTA4: Use the DS3 instead.

MGS4MGO: Works perfect

Although I have tried it with BF:BC demo, it works.

When i play cod4 with my fragfx my mouse can't get accurate,i mean it's shaking or when i turn down the sencer(Sorry if i misspelled that)you can hardly move it(wich is understandable)

But when YOU play with the mouse accurate look's,well like playing on a pc.

My mouse is like choosing paths where to go,it can't go a little by little.

First thing, turn up the sensitivity in the game settings up to the highest, which I'm pretty sure if 10.

To do that, go to options, sensitivity, go to custom, and finally set it to 10.

When that is done, you'll have to set the FragFX to a sensitivity of 2 or 2 and a half.

After that it should work, if not I'd contact the manufacture and ask them the problem you're having, cause it might be the controller acting up.

But, hopefully the first part of this message works.

It has the same layout as a DualShock3. The left stick controls moving and the mouse acts as the right stick.

It all depends on how the developer designed the look mechanics. KZ2 for instances, has a LOT of movement lag, which translates it to being a bitch to control. So, it all depends on the game.

Heck, I've tried it out on Killzone 1 for the PS2 on my PS3. The FragFX was detected and it worked like a charm.

I suppose I do zoom in a lot, and you don't have steady aim in singleplayer. I think it comes from the original Call of Duty. The guns are really inaccurate unless you use ADS.

im not really sure, but i heard you can see the difference of 1080p and 720p even on a 24 inch monitor.

most games native resolutions are 720p and 1080p upscaled. But soon when games with 1080p native and 720p downscaled YOU WILL SEE THE DIFFERENCE EVEN IN A 24 INCH MONITOR OR TV.

There is no difference at all between 720p and 1080p. It is a (small) difference if you have a 50inc+ screen and sits 5 meters from the screen

it is always the difference. it's just that you only see it on a big screen. 720p is 1280x720 resolution, and 1080p is1920x1080 resolution. so if you use it as a PC, you definately will see a difference!

V2 hasn't been released yet. It's coming out at the end of Feb. 2009 I think.

Compared to PC gaming. It's really close.

There are a few things you have to get used to with it. The "mouse acceleration" is the main thing, which can be worked with.

And yes Twitch reaction shooting works on the PS3. Did quite a few double kills in matches where you have to shoot/turn/shoot. I bet those guys are pissed :P

Plus Sniping is another field that is significantly improved with this.

Did you notice this? i played counter strike for about 5 years and as such am a twitch shooter, quick movement, headshot. Is the mouse capable of duplicating that sort of movement on the ps3? and if not how close or far away is it?
