  • MsKeyo, it's 'When those G.I.s knock us out' Superhartline. On the Decca recording Patti does an impromtu impersonation of Katherine Hepburn. Superhartline.

  • Not only do I like this, I LOVE IT!

  • i agree but i also love her on heres lucy BUT I LOVE THE SISTERS!

i havent seen Hollywood cannteen yet

  • Can anyone make out the words at the :45 mark? I've found this song on two lyrics sites. Both say: "When those G.I.'s knock the South...". But that doesn't appear to be what the sisters are saying. (Not surprising, since I discovered two other mistakes in the lyrics that I found.) Any help would be appreciated!

  • @MsKeyofC I think it is "When those G.I.'s knock us out we're glad that we're the healthy kind."

  • I would love to sing this one for the "USO Show" at the local county museum! Does anyone know where the sheet music can be found?

  • "I'm a patriotic jitterbug, yheah, yheah, that's what I am!"

  • @rah760 Thank you for the info! It took me ages to figure out what a Du Berry might be. I try to keep up on the slang terms common in the 1940's and I thought perhaps a couple had gotten me. That's a mean little jitterbug those 3 beauties laid down for that lucky audience, isn't it? Thanks again. Cheers...

  • @1nightstorm Du Barry was a beauty company in the 30s and 40s, known for their line of products and "beauty treatments".

  • I believe the "du berry" Patty mentions refers to Madame Du Barry from the days of Louis XV of France. I'm not sure what the "Westmore course" is. Cole Porter did a musical about her that became a movie in 1943 starring Lucille Ball & Gene Kelly. Patty could be talking about the Madame's hair or fancy hat.

That's some serious jitterbug boogie these gorgeous ladies laid down towards the end of this treasure from 1944. Thank you for sharing this!

  • @1nightstorm The Westmores were a famous family of Hollywood makeup artists who did the faces of anyone who was anyone back in the day. As you see from the video, Patty is mimicking making herself up when she sings the words "Westmore course".

  • i have seen many sing this song but this by far is the best. They dont even try..its like second nature...!!

At 17 they have changed my life. Dramatic yes but i just love em'!

  • I always come back to these Andrews Sisters videos. They were several decades before my time, but god what talented ladies!! As in this video, they make it look so effortless, but I can imagine the hours of work and practice it took to pull these kinds of performances off flawlessly. Also, musically they did so many interesting things with their voices in the arrangements of their songs. I never tire of listening to them.

  • never heard this before but love it

  • patty was very pretty for sure....maxine was cute too..laverne brought up the rear.

I found one picture of them, very young, probably 18-19 or so...and they all look really good.....Patty was adorable though.

  • AHHH I found it! I just love their performance in this movie. First time I saw them (which was like... 5 or 6 months ago)... I found them ugly, no offense. I was trying to figure out who the heck was Patty. "They say I was... REALLY I was." Lol... They would've been GREAT Actresses...

  • wow, getting corns for uncle sam. thats patriotic right there! I love them!

  • the best ever!

  • i enjoy so much so funny girls

  • Why cant girls look like this today?

  • @MISTERMISTER361 This...this statement right here. God, do I agree.

  • Love the times step they do from 2:06 to about 2:30!

  • Patty is Hot... my god

  • @enviso Strangely so. Her face isn't what the magazines would call hot by modern standards, though she was quite a looker at the time and easily the best looking of the three sisters (which I'm sure came up a few times).

I think she's just very spunky and confident and funny in this track, in addition to singing AMAZINGLY, so it's easy to find the whole picture "hot", which I do. Plus she was nice to the GIs, which I can totally appreciate.

  • my heroes

  • Scary eyebrows!

  • Best Girly Group ever!

  • More!

  • Best part in The Hollywood Canteen!

  • i always sing this<333

  • I watched The Hollywood Canteen the other day.

    Thought it was awesome.

    This was my favorite part.

  • Those are my girls!!! Such amazing talent!!! :] I should be there!!

  • I was born in the early 70's and always thought I was born 30-40 yrs to late!! This stuff is awesome!! The talent is incredible...the voices are unmistakably smooth and rich!! This is something that America needs to embrace and hold onto!! Wow!!!!

  • What blows me away about this clip is take a look at the size of those heels they've got on! I have trouble just walking in heels half that size that these gals are DANCING in them! Some pretty complicated steps, no less!

And one more comment - in a world where things are not divided by time, space or historical era, man would I love to see Maxene play Christine in the musical version of Phantom of the Opera! She'd own the part!

  • Can the Andrew Sisters swing? This posting answers that question. Thanks for sharing it.

  • love this stuff

  • I love Hollywood Canteen. That and In the Army Now

  • I am in love with Patty

  • Im in love with all three =D

  • @goodguys65 lol

  • all the video's are great.what a great blast

  • Fantastic post from the era that produced more musical talant then any decade before or after. Magic.

  • what's a jitterbug?

  • a jitterbug is either a dance or a dancer.

in this instance its a dancer.

  • *swing dancing obviously.

  • Patty is like a cross between Britney Spears and Bette Midler. A unique talent that transcends generations.

  • bette, maybe, but britney is nothing but a modern, overrated hack

  • keep the music up love it

  • These ladies are giants of swing! My heros!

  • they are beautifull and have the best voices of the past 100 years no doubt about that

i wish was born 70 years earlier :(

  • I love the part at 0:59 - 1:00

  • Lol, Im their biggest fan under the 15, im 14 xD

I can even sing the Hawaïan part in Hula-Ba-Luau =D

  • WHAT A BLAST

  • Just wonder if I would of stood a chance with Patty.I like to think so.

  • I for one would have fought you for her, lol!

  • Go ask her! She's still around...albeit 98 or so, but still!

  • @goodguys65 She's 92 and still alive. Widow, too. Go see if she'll let you buy her a milkshake and take her to a movie. hahaha

  • Today's manufactured bands should take a long hard look at this..and weep.

I am completely and utterly overawed by the talent on display here.

Over 60 years on, and the Andrews Sisters still ROCK!

Never realised Patty was such a hottie either!

  • Ok so this is about the greatest singing I have ever seen. And Maxene may be like 70 years older than me, but she is just beautiful in this.

  • Forget about Pavlova......learn to cut a rug....Universal Studios should have been shot for not putting more money in The Andrews Sister's films.....I'll bet Patty started that studio's fire......shhhhh in TEXAS!!!

  • Patty, let me be your sailor...or Marine!!!!

  • The Andrews Sisters were amazing, and Patty was killer. I love their 1937-1947 period the best.
