  • I swear that the music is from need for speed?

  • Incredible. Just incredible.

  • The game engine seems nice, but I can't really do anything with it, can I? I want to see a Morrowind style game made with this.

  • Morrowind is so awesome... It kicks Oblivion's ass.

  • Yeah, Oblivion didn't have that immersive feel, and Morrowind also had better spells and enchantments. I felt epic in Morrowind but fail in Oblivion... until I added mods, of course.

  • Graphics like this in 2006???

  • give the guy a break prick. Let's see u make ur own game engine.

  • No, that was a complement! The graphics are amazing for 2006, that's what I'm saying. And yes, I could make my own game engine, but maybe not as good as this one.

  • oh yeah nice physics though :P

  • try using c c+++ python and c# for the best game yet.(thats what I would do :P)

  • the music is from need for speed 2 :-) great choice! nice engine, but i see it lacks ragdolls and projected shadows, those are a must nowadays

  • nice video and engine, but you definetaly need interpolation between frames on model animastions.

  • Wow looks awesome. Do you use C++ for this????

  • Thanks. Yes, I used C++ for this - however I also used Python for high level scripting.

  • cool. Man I wanna learn how to create games. have you got any advice on books or websites etc. for learning C++(and python?)?

  • You don't need to use Python. It is just a scripting language. cplusplus dot c0m is a good C++ tutorial site, but if you want to get into game development fast, use C# and XNA.

  • XNA seems great, but I don't want to alienate Linux users, and I don't feel like using Visual Studio instead of CodeBlocks. :(

  • wow, at 1:40 it looks like a cross between doom3 and quake4. nice job

  • both of those games use the same engine, idtech 4

  • reminds me much of the old 64's Perfect dark engine, with actual pysics of course.

  • I'm a little confused. If I were to make a game (assuming I knew the code), would I make my own engine? Or use others. I had to make my own, how would I do that?

  • you have to write a code, yes you are right there

and you can use existing engines, but then the game would have to be writtten using that engine only

cant quite help you on the making yer own engine thing

    :(

    sowy

  • It really depends on what you're trying to achieve. If your goals are to make a game, then I'd highly recommend using an existing engine. If you just want to learn how things work from an academic point of view then writing things yourself is a great educational experience.

  • It look's like Source Engine

  • does it support normal mapping.

  • That... was... amazing.

And this only took you 2 years?!

  • The menu reminds me of source. :P

  • Most likely it is.

  • heh, a flintlock with a clip :p

  • Could I make a City with this? and player's be able to play as Zombies and monster's? since i like the look of this

  • NFS 2 SE SOUNDTRACKKKKKK woohoo!

  • Still in development or no?

  • YOOO!!

Nice music, from NFS II - old skool!

  • Pretty nice =)

Maybe weapon meshes would be better than 2d images? The animation on those looked pretty choppy.

  • how do i embed a game enigne to my website???

  • What a complete rip off. This is just the Half-Life 2 engine...

  • Thanks, I'll take that as a compliment :-)

  • also lose the fiddly jumps unless they are integral to the game. Longest running debate ever (except maybe wasd v arrows or mouse v joypad) is platform levels in an FPS... if valve cant pull it off... like some effects.. want a story?

  • want anyone for content/ art?

  • nice engine, but I must say, having zombies that are THAT damn slow wouldn't be any fun in an actual game. So if(or when) you do move on to making a commercial game, please make faster zombies. And uhhhhhhh....did you misspell burg?

  • yeah, i like fast zombies :). And hush. I only noticed the misspelling after I uploaded. *sigh* -_-

  • You know what they say. "A fast zombie is a happy zombie."

  • Lol.. showing off source engine hl2..

  • childsplay

  • Hey ? Whats with the site ? Is just white. Please fix it. :D

  • It's back, and I even updated the about page :>.

  • C++? OPengl??

  • C++, Python, and Direct3D9. See my website for details.

  • Really great job m8, lots of hard work wasn't it? Something strikes me as odd though, the animations on the gun, it's framing. I don't really know too much about these things, but could it be because you're using keyframe animations and you're not interpolating between frames? Just a thought, otherwise really tremendous work!!

  • I'm using cal3d for animations, which should be interpolating between keyframes. I'd noticed the stuttering, but to tell you the truth never got around to investigating :).

  • orcsaver: You're a fucking idiot. It barely looks like Half-life.

  • The zombies might remind of Half-Life, but it's obviously not. Looks better, but I can't tell much from the quality.

  • THIS IS HALF LIFE WTF!

  • I wonder how long it would take to make a complete game engine like the Mango one?

  • This took about 9 months + 1 month to make the zombie game (which involved alot of tweaking of the engine itself).

  • Nice work! What physics/graphics/shader API do you use?

  • Newton/Direct3D9/HLSL+D3DFX.

  • Lol, i have to say it reminds me of half life 2, ever think of working for valve?

  • Yes, it REMINDS you of halflife 2 because of the graphics style (hl2 is my artist favorite game -_^). The engine, however, is nothing like Source.

And yes, I've thought about working for Valve. Hi Gabe, if you're reading this ^_^.

  • Great Job!... I got a question thou, DirectX or OpenGL?... FOr my game engine im using both. I find that OpenGL has nicer renders as for DirectX is like 50X faster to code and bit more forgiving performance wise.

Btw. it does seem like HL2 but thats a good thing! =p

  • Direct3D for this, however I'm planning on moving to OpenGL for more platform compatability. OpenGL and Direct3D are equivalent, and speed differences would only come from game specifics or perhaps better/worse drivers. They're both just as capable of creating "nice renders".

  • "bu ne rezil bisey yahu bunun aynisi hitman codename 47 de var" which shortly means: It is not even better than hitman's first game's physics

  • ...

  • lol, you should it that as a compliment that he compares your engine with a commercial one. I although read that hitman started out as a hobby project, so it'll be nice to see how your engine evolves. ;)

  • Like I've said many times before, a stunning engine.

  • thx :)

  • ragdoll bodys maybe?

  • It's possible, but I never got around to setting up a ragdoll model.

  • I want to download that

  • It's on my website to download.

  • I think you must get this a lot, but it reminds me a *lot* of Half Life 2. Everything from the main menu, to the art style, to the actual content of the "demo". But that's a good thing - HL2 was a great game.

The physics look great, as do your shaders. The only thing that looked a bit sub-par to me was texture resolution. Aside from that, you have a *damn* impressive game engine on your hands here! Very nice work!

  • Texture resolution is always a limiting factor...I'd like to investigate fully procedural textures sometime. However, in the meantime I'll probably just be bumping up the resolution of the texture files :).

  • Nice - reminds me of HL2.

  • Yes I know. I'm going to change the art style for the demo, 'cause I'm sick of EVERYONE saying this :P.

  • LOLS THIS IS DCOWER LOLOL
