I agree PTP is overrated but it does make the amp easier to service or mod. It's also arguably more sturdy and less apt to rattle and shake the tubes when the amp is cranked.
@guitarcapo They are easier to service I'm sure - but my DRRI is almost 100% if not 100% rattle free where as my only PTP hand made amp has alot more problems and rattles. Bad one I guess?
My DRRI rattled a bit when it was new. I think what happens is that the speaker vibrations shake the PC board that the components are on. And sometimes the tube sockets are soldered directly to that board. I fixed it with tube dampers but later the problem solved itself. Heads separate from cabs was the old solution back in the day. Soundwise I can't tell much difference between a reissue and vintage. A reissue might be a tad brighter but that might just be the speaker.
Hey Aaron, you made me a set of pickups last year and I LOVE them! Not sure if you remember me, I'm the guy out in Hawaii? Thanks again and I can't wait to get another set from you!
wanting to have the guy at Rumple build me a set of aged '53 Blackguard to spec with zinc and copper plate, etc. He's a "best kept" secret, huh? :) LOVE the ROMPS.... very cool when one guy can just play fender through fender and keep me interested. Sweet.... a favorite.
finally a video of just playing, and TONE....Tired of all of the wanna be Sound engineers saying that the PCB based DRRI's are crap because they aren't P2P....Bahhhh, impact is minimal at best....If you think an Amp with 40 year old caps and pots is a "tone monster" you're either very naive or utterly stupid....This is an amazing amp in either original (maintained) or Reissue....Overpriced ? Maybe so, but great sounding none-the-less...Nice chops OP
Damn nice playing and wow dose that Deluxe sounds o so sweet and lenny and sultans of swing sounded awesome at the end i want to get my hands on a deluxe reverb now lol
The Jensens are way to brittle for this already bright amp i think.
