I think 3D is a great tool to enhance the enjoyment of viewing a movie from a totally different perspective.. especially in worlds that you don't normally recognize (like Alice in Wonderland, Avatar, Clash of the Titans, etc...) But if it gets over-used, it won't make the movie itself more special. Sometimes 2D helps to maintain a sense of realism, I suppose.. But that's just my opinion.. :)
I understand your view. But every new technology is embraced reluctantly. We experience 2D as being realistic b/c that is what audiences & filmmakers are familiar with. I didn't get the sense that the people interviewed in this video were offering much insight. The only thing it matters is how long will it take for filmmakers to develop this technology as well as they've developed previous film technologies. When it becomes a standardized tool, then it will create an immersive experience.
If the audience is immersed in a story, they could care less if it's "over-used" or special. Most movies aren't special and most movies re-use plots and techniques from other movies. Most people don't watch movies for originality. A movie like Avatar is a spectacle which can be enjoyable sometimes, but spectacles aren't what people want to see most of the time. People simply want an immersive story.
i hope its not the future...
