  • Lol I was just watching a vid where someone said 'freak show' and suddenly remembered this song. I swear this was on my favorites though.

  • You know, it's amazing this band kept on going even after the massive tragedy they experienced earlier in their career...and still dropped even more classics!!!

  • Pumped up Kicks,,,reminds me of that song.

  • I was trying to be funny, but your reply was both interesting & informative , Thank you.

  • did that singer go to the rick james school of deportment?

  • @stipica71 -Larry Dodson and the late Rick James have both been singing professionally since the 1960's. They have two strong and different styles. Rick James once said he copied Bootsy Collins. Rick James was also a member of the Canadian band, The Myna Birds, formerly Sailerboys, 1964-1967, with Neil Young and Bruce Palmer. The original Bar Kays were a studio backing band as was Confunkshun. The Bar Kays are still performing.

  • The song: Awesome.

    Everything else: PAINFULLY 80s.

  • GOOD JAM SONG !!!!!!

  • similar as no parking on the dance floor

  • Black video models must thank God for the Hip Hop era. They couldn't even get work prior to that with Black R&B artist, thanks to the white execs. So ridiculous.

  • @ANCIENTMYS: Considering what kind of work they DO get, can you really call it progress?

  • @Freezer818. The word "progress" in this case is subjective and somewhat tricky but then again that's probably why you used it. I never mentioned "progress" but simply pointed out the fact that white execs in music and Hollywood, for that matter, have a strange and bizarre habit of pushing white women on Black culture and men to serve a very sick agenda. My point is,despite myths and lies,Black men would rather see sexy Black females in entertainment rather than the crap they're force fed.

  • fuck VEVO and fuck your fucking sponsors YOU ARE SHIT

  • @KingPotis Lemme ask you a couple of questions:

Are they charging you any money to watch this?

Do the advertisements cut the song off in the middle?

If the answer to both questions is "no", THEN SHUT UP!

  • SHUT UP AND ENJOY THE MUSIC!

    ╭∩╮(︶︿︶)╭∩╮

  • This song turned alot of Dudes & Chicks out made'em bi LOL

    Tight song though.

  • Do you think the "Guys with guys, chicks with chicks" lyric kept this single from getting more exposure? Just wondering.....

  • Breakin! aka Breakdance.

  • Larry Dodson's been in the game way before Rick James. Check out songs from the Black Rock album (1971) and even Wattstax

  • it's that gritty funk you can't get a enough of. they are kinda like the 80's version of the ohio players but more of a rock sound to it. and the ohio players had more of a blues soul funk sound to it.

  • Heck yeah it's so bad, I can't get enough. ILOVE It FREAK show!!

  • Outstanding!

  • i was brought here by the movie Breakin' , this song is tight!

  • "Jus a Frake sho"! Love It!!!!!! 1984

  • freak show bby bby on the dance floor hahahah

  • degradation of black masculinity at work

  • @DONJUAN494 Why do you think certain black have to reflect all black people? Since when did people stop becoming individuals to you? I think you're just a little insecure and watching other people do their own thing irritates you. You should get help for that, because I don't think all of the white rockers that have long hair are representing white people as a whole, either.

  • Lookat dis moefoka lookin' like Rick James! Shit crack me da hell up!

  • i was just at a dance club and someone put this on and everyone started break dancing.

  • I am so glad to hear this one once again. Bravooo.

  • 80's best times forever. Bring me back to the 80's bastards

  • 80's best times forever. Bring me back to the 80's bastards

  • I have been searching on the latest from the Bar Kays and nothing new. I know they disbanded in 89 and put out a record in 94 "Put A Little Nasty On It" but nothing since. I think they were on a New Year's Eve special out of Memphis in the late 90's. Does anyone know of anything current with them or Larry Dodson?

  • man i grew up to this song 80 s baby for sure

  • James Brown is OG but the 80's is Hella Gangsta!

  • HOW MANY times have I danced and rocked the floor to this???!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i love this track if you wanna see some good dancing to this track then check on you-tube "popping and locking with katie lee"..u won't be disapointed!!

  • HAHAHAHAHAHA..IM DYING FROM 2:15XDXD

  • Wow we got all figured out bcs they didn't play Rick James , they were "racist" we'll they didn't play Hungarian folk goat milking music either , so guess that's more proof or maybe the obvious they had a ROCK format & rock stations have a ROCK format & play ROCK music, guess they're racist too .

Don't get em wrong I loath the music business , it screws all people mostly Goyims , but they did have a right to choose their format besides it was new, uncharted waters for them .

  • @franz909 Always good to take the opportunity to throw the oblique anti-Jew comment in, right?

  • LOL LOL LOL. love 80s/90s funk but the videos are so cheesy.

  • love this song, one of the best to play on the music box!!!

  • I remember listening to this when i was young...it was the shit then and is now...

  • the 80s was such a breakout decade for music. So many different forms and expressions of music were experimental in the 80s which led to it being such a great era of music and it was all about fun! youd never hear a funky ass beat like this nowadays and plus the video was just crazy wild fun lol aaah how i miss you 80's

  • anyone know what album???

  • It's so cool. I like the singer.

  • I was minus 2 at the time but was already grooving like hell on this tune looking for an ovum.

  • Wild

  • The lead singer is so cool in this vid. I am only 19 but this is one of the best I have heard. I guess being white sometimes we just aren't exposed to this good music because so many radio stations are pure white formatted!

  • @zitigo Well this type of music was mostly from the early 80's. Even though I was a little kid in the 80's, MTV played a lot of this music back in the day as well.

  • @TheWaynelds : To the contrary! MTV was very racist in it's music formats. In the 80's they refused to play videos like this. If it was by a black artist and groving they would not play it. Go figure! They wouldn't even play one of the greatest songs of all time Rick James Superfreak in the 80's. It Wasn't until Michael Jackson's beat it that they played any kind of rhythm video. They only did that because the record company threatned they would not be allowed to play thier white artist.

  • @STONEnDigDave1 Ah yes I may have been mistaken. After rumaging around in the ol memories of my childhood in the 80's, I remembered that here in Akron Ohio they had a local channel hosted by Billy Soul that played all this type of music. From Chaka Khan to Zapp and Rodger and Run DMC. Wow I can't believe I remembered that cuz I knew I've seen this video when i was a wee lad lol.

  • @STONEnDigDave1 You are absolutley correct about MTV. Let's not for get that Rick James sued MTV (I think it was in '82) unsucessfully for NOT playing Black music. he tried to get "Superfreak" played but they refused. Their statement was "our format is strictly rock and we only play rock music videos". It wasn't until Walter Yetnikoff from Epic records threatened them with pulling all of MJ's videos and not giving them anymore Epic artists that the doors really opened up. MTV was so racist

  • @craigwho2000

Should we expect a group of whites to sue BET Network? Whites are under-represented there.

Or is it just that they have a different target audience?

  • Great time in American history!

  • @phlyegles43 the best!

    renaissance

  • Yeah! This is d ultimate Breakdance classic of the early 80's!

  • this song makes me wanna start locking x] i love old school breakin songs

  • wtf...he look like a gaaaaaay!

  • right the fuck up my alley fucken badass the bass groove just smacks me in the face

  • How cool is the opening of this track!

  • Cool ;D

  • so this is where toot it n boot it got its chorus

  • Rick James used to go to THEIR shows......I love Rick, but the Bar Kays were one of his mentors.....

  • Good song. Some may think that Larry Dotson, I think that is his last name, was a Rick James wannabee. It was the other way around. Barkays have been around since the 60s. All but two original members died in the plane crash that killed the great Otis Redding. The two remaining members reformed the band. They later added Larry Dotson from a rival band and started dressing wild. Rick James copied Dotson's style.

  • @lynjs You are right! Did you catch Unsung?
