This is how you do it, pray consistantly, apply the Word, help yourself to be better, and help people. No where in the Bible do I see anything about dating being forbidden by God. The problem isn't dating or courtship or whatever you call it. It is in how you do it. If you date to lust, and then break up after you are tired of each other, then you are not keeping pure - weather you have sex or not. It is all in the intent. Some relationships do not work out, but you do not enter an engagement or promise yourselves to each other with the intent to break up later.

I write down all the things that I have to be grateful for. @femmefatale0101: In order to qualify the first statement, you would have to read the new testament, not just misquote the old testament. If you were to qualify that also with the second part of your statement, Paul is clear in Galatians 5 that the works of the flesh includes "Sensuality and Impurity" which for the most part is what Mr. Washer is referring to. And I would suggest you look those words up in a Concordance to find their original meaning.

@Joel0277 Mark Driscoll does a great talk where he instructs the men in his church on how to 'find a nice girl'. He says that they should turn around 360 degrees, stop at any point, and "there's a nice girl". His point is that there are good Christian women everywhere- you should be able to start a godly relationship leading to marriage with any of them, without doing some sort of dating 'road test'. To make a marriage work, you need to actively love someone, not road test a series of women.

I don't think there's just one girl for each of us. I'm married, and I'm quite sure that my wife is not the only woman I could have married. Every Christian marriage I know came out of dating. Also 1 Cor. 7:39 suggests free choice as long as the other person is a believer and there is no fornication. No where in the Bible do I see anything about dating being forbidden by God. The problem isn't dating or courtship or whatever you call it. It is in how you do it. If you date to lust, and then break up after you are tired of each other, then you are not keeping pure - weather you have sex or not. It is all in the intent. Some relationships do not work out, but you do not enter an engagement or promise yourselves to each other with the intent to break up later.

@femmefatale0101: In order to qualify the first statement, you would have to read the new testament, not just misquote the old testament. If you were to qualify that also with the second part of your statement, Paul is clear in Galatians 5 that the works of the flesh includes "Sensuality and Impurity" which for the most part is what Mr. Washer is referring to. And I would suggest you look those words up in a Concordance to find their original meaning.

You just want to date. Fine, but then you have to rightly divide scripture and prove the "qualification" for your action. I would submit to you, it is not justified ANYWHERE in scripture to date.

Now, I will admit it does not qualify or disqualify pre-marital sex, but #1, it does paint sex as something to be taken seriously, and #2, each person is to only have one partner. That would mean if you do have pre-marital sex, you can only do it with one person.

@Joel0277 Mark Driscoll does a great talk where he instructs the men in his church on how to 'find a nice girl'. He says that they should turn around 360 degrees, stop at any point, and "there's a nice girl". His point is that there are good Christian women everywhere- you should be able to start a godly relationship leading to marriage with any of them, without doing some sort of dating 'road test'. To make a marriage work, you need to actively love someone, not road test a series of women.

I don't think there's just one girl for each of us. I'm married, and I'm quite sure that my wife is not the only woman I could have married. Of course, I'm married, and we're staying together and it's clearly God's will that we're married (especially when you consider that when we have kids, those kids who are planned and created by him were only possible with the two of us in a relationship), but still, I could have been a good husband to many of the women I knew before I was married.

Every Christian marriage I know came out of dating. Also 1 Cor. 7:39 suggests free choice as long as the other person is a believer and there is no fornication. Should no one should vote in an election, go to the doctor when ill, or seek a job when unemployed because God will bring the desired result without any human agency? Then why apply it to finding a mate? The very concept of arranged marriages understands that God guides us but we have a responsibility to take action.

I meant that one should put some effort into seeking a good mate by engaging in romantic relationships (non-sexual of course) to see which sorts of people are right for one. I've known girls who've rushed into bad marriages because they've only seen one man in their lives who they think are their ideal God-sent mates.

You putting yourself in a situation where both of you will be tempted when you counsel someone of the opposite sex. It is absolutely Biblical to make no provision for the flesh. (meaning, if you have the foresight, do not even allow for the opportunity to be tempted. If there is not a real option for proper counseling, make sure that you have at least 10 witnesses constantly in your presence to protect you from slander, and from temptation.

I see the point concerning the boys, but what if on the funeral of our grandfather ( when you are older than 16, say 10 years older than that), what if you have no father who fulfills that role ? When your mother is already dead ? And you have no brothers or sisters ? What is there is no one to comfort you ?

He's a throwback to the parochial, hyper conservative Christians I thought had died away (Swaggart, Falwell). The kind who is not content to keep his fundamentalist dogma personal but needs to launch it in the faces of others and condemn everything and everyone who doesn't fit into his pinched view of existence. I find this kind of Shrill and obnoxious Christian particularly offensive.

I don't necessarily agree with the way he presents things, but I believe that he presents the truth, and truth is ofttimes extreme. In that regard, I do believe that there is a balance that is required.
And if you understand the idea behind Christianity in general, it isn't to keep what we believe secret. Would you honestly be able to hide such a great love from people, for the sake of not offending anyone?

I see no love or truth coming out of Washer, only contempt for humanity, it's accomplishments and worldly existence. To hold as a basic tenet that humanity is inherently evil and depraved is itself an obscenity and a mockery of our existence. It is not love for man, it is venom.
You could not invent a more anti-life system of beliefs. If washer hates worldliness so much, my advice to him is to slit his wrists and get the hell off this mortal coil.

I don't think that his beliefs are anti-life, I believe that what he preaches helps to extend our life on the earth.
But as far as a venom for man, I think that the world has that covered. Think about it. Example: Maybe he is preaching "Don't have sex before marriage," and the world is showing you the exact opposite of that. Little do we know that STDs and unwanted pregnancies are a result of doing the exact opposite of what he preached, you see? He preaches to save life, not to destroy it.

The whole premise of Washer's sermons are that man and his activities are innately depraved and evil. Washer despises the world and pronounces judgement on almost everything we do. BTW -- there is nothing wrong sex before marriage. But there is something wrong with people who think it's a big moral issue.

By ant-life I mean anti-human. Scripture makes no small point of declaring man as inherently evil. It damns us evil at birth then proceeds to demand we practice a morality it defines as impossible for us to practice. Our guilt is that we aren't perfect.
But according to bronze age myth god sacrifices himself to himself to appease himself and satisfy his need for a blood sacrifice. Then he won't condemn us to the cosmic ovens which he created. It not only makes no sense, it's bat-shit crazy.

He sent His Son to earth to save the world, and whoever believes in Him will have eternal life. What about the people who don't? Well, the obvious answer would be that they go to hell. Why would a loving God do that? Here is an example: Let's say that someone has a deadly disease, and there is no hope, they will succumb to this disease.(con't)

The gospel is about how we were destined to go to hell, because we were born sinners, but Jesus died for us, and presented a cure for our malady. So now, the ball is in our court. We choose whether we will receive the treatment, or die in our sins.

Jesus is Extreme, Jesus upset people when He spoke coz He told people what they don't want to hear, Jesus was straight forward. For eg, if you go to a doctor and he finds you have a Deadly Sickness, it is best if he tells you it like it is and NOT be light about it even tho it might be scary it will save your life

I honestly want at least one of them, no matter how brief it is, before I die. Though I will conduct myself in a godly manner during it.
