@Visayaa They don't they are both 18mp and APS-C but the one in the 7D can read data faster that is why it can has 8FPS. Lears your stuff before you post something like that.
@TechMilkshake You mean it has two digitech 4 image processors instead of one. The sensor doesn't read image data, the processor does. What takes the camera time to process the image is the analog to digital conversion of the processor after receiving the light and color information from the sensor. Plus, it also depends on what class in memory card you utilize. Thinks before you postez something like that.
I have also read that with DSLR's there is no way to get a video stream and still see what you are doing. HDMI out shuts off the LCD...sends the LCD signal down the HDMI connection. So you'll be blind. Not only that, but the image isn't a clean one...it is the LCD display
What would work best cam or DSLR and what models would you recommend?

@guguemichaels well of course. But, then again, having better technology gives you a huge boost in very many ways. @guguemichaels I completely agree, i guess i was saying, if you were still shooting on a point-and-shoot and u wanted a video camera or DSLR, or compact cam, then it would be reasonable to get that 2.8k camera, instead of the $500 dollar one (if you have the money) because if you are serious, it will give you more ability. And yes coming from the movie scripting/commercial stand point, you make great sense. And i did see your 60D music video, it's quite well done. I'm not arguing with you.
@LunaticSumo Oh no brethren! I know you are not arguing, we are just sharing and having open discussion, and expressing our personal opinions...It's nothing personal. So feel free to speak your mind...that's how we learn and grow. I may learn from you just like you may learn from me..it's all a growing process.
@LunaticSumo To add to that, you have a lot of Hollywood studio movies shot on 35mm but are still trash...so the main focus should be a good script, then your story telling, then actor's/actress, location then Camera, after that post. If done properly, you will have a good movie. I'm speaking from commercials and movie making aspect. If you have the vision and you are creative enough, you can make a $800 canon 60D look like studio movie. That was the point I was trying to bring across...thanks
@guguemichaels from a photography stand point though, you do want to get a better DSLR rather than a worse one, simply because of the ability and restrictions of each camera.
@guguemichaels am defenately with you Mr, but one thing is that you can't make a better Project without a better tool, you need tools that goes with your Project,, but yahhh you also need some experience on how to use the tools... But yahh your right
@guguemichaels Proof that cameras aren't everything are Nigahiga's OLD videos. The quality on them was terrible, but the hilarious content was what mattered!
@Lillebror9494 LoL!!! Yes you do just don't kill yourself or break the bank trying to buy a camera because of the hype surrounding it. All these camera manufacturers have marketing department that focuses only on how to sell you their product. 99% of the time they use technical terms to blind you to spend freaking thousands of dollars to buy a product that you may not need. Sony, Canon, Panasonic, JVC, Arri and Red are all at war with each other and we are the casualties..LoL
@guguemichaels I totally agree - but as a young videographer, I found most of my clients won't hire me unless I have a camera that appeals to them. It's not just a tool but also a "name card" :) Or, you can help making the less-video-educated people know this point, so I wont have a hard time explaining to them why I can't make a video slide show directly from a stack of paper photos :) :)
@ghostmomo Make different price packages for your clients. If they want higher end camera, they should pay for it especially if you rent it. Do not go broke to buy a camera that's popular only to use it twice in one year for your clients. That's not smart at all. I have high end clients as well but I refuse to fall prey to cameras just for looks. My clients call me based on my work...so when they come, they come for the images I can give them not how pretty and fancy my camera is.
@ghostmomo You need to create a price sheet. List all the cameras you can get your hands on and it's rental price, so if they ask for a RED ONE or Epic, your covered. If they ask for an Alexa, their budget will cover the rental. If they ask for a camera you own, your safe...but again, do not fall for the hype that you must have a RED camera series to do a job. That's BS! Not every one can afford those high end cameras...a simple Canon DSLR line can give you great images for your clients.
I heard from someone that the video quality coming out of the 60D is pretty much the same as the 7D, 5D Mark II, and the 1D. Is this true? The only thing he said though was something about the full frame chip. Anyone care to explain? I'm looking for a great, beginner film-making DSLR and I'm planning to get the 60D.
@ElephantShoeToo All the Canon lines have the same censor that's probably what who ever you are talking to meant but the 5D is the strongest in low lights. I've shot two music videos ; one with the Canon 7D and the other one with the Canon 60D, you can check it out and Judge for yourself. To me, both cameras give good images, it's all about your budget.
Awwww yeah just ordered mine last Friday. Should be here Friday of this week. Can't wait to start using that thing, it'll be my first DSLR camera. And I bought a 50mm lens for it too. Awww yeah.
If you want something between the 60D and the 550D (T3i) just get the 600D (T3i), it has the swivel screen and has the audio level adjustment, wireless flash trigger, and best for beginners it has a Scene Intelligent Auto setting so it sets everything. But to be fair even if you are a beginner planning to use a DSLR properly you might awell buy a really good one to start with, because you probably won't be getting a new one anytime soon...
@UFOJeroen Was a hard choice between the two for me too. Out of all these comparison videos on here I went with the 60D. The Sony NEX VG10 is more expensive than the 60D. Canon 60D's (body only) costed me just $899 free shipping and no tax. The NEX VG10 is like $1499 everywhere I look! If you want good videos go for Sony. If you want good photos and videos (the best of both worlds) go for Canon.
@MrCheespuff The t3i just came out... that was before this video was made. The t3i does NOT have the top lcd screen, nor does it have special controls that you will find in the 60d. The round selector (the one you use to select all the pictures and menu options) is only found on the 60d. The t3i has 4 buttons. For a beginner, go with the t3i. But if you are used to DSLR's and the higher end cameras, go with the 60d. Unless it's just for photography... then go with the 7d. You're welcome
@4coils I have the 60d and my brother has the T2i and we compared them and the 60d has a better feal but the T2i is smaller and a little lighter. The build quality of the 60d is very nice. all the doors are rubber and have a very nice snug fit when you close them. When it came to video and photos the 60d is the way to go. If you are doing sports You would want the 60d because the frames per second is a lot faster. In my opinion i think you should save up for the 60d.
Ha! Found a mistake Matt. First one I've noticed after watching all of your videos. At 0:41 , you said LED screen. It's actually a LCD screen ;). Haha just giving you a hard time :P
thank you so much! This really helped me decide which DSLR camera is better for video making. I'm trying to make the transition from crappy camcorders to DSLR cameras, and anyone who I ask for the best DSLR for video making gives me a death glare. lol Thanks so much for the review, I might be getting me one very soon ;)
Matt, you forgot to mention that the only Canon DSLR with a Full frame sensor (& shallow d.o.f.) is the Canon 5dMkii, which renders this camera rather inferior for video.
man i don't even know what i want anymore. i was leaning heavily towards getting the Sony NEX VG10. but then i see the quality on this thing.... man. need to do more homework on this thing before i make a final decision....
@2migell this camera only shoots video. u gotta buy a separate camera attachment in order to shoot video. prices on those range anywhere from $200 - $600 for that camera attachment
@2migell No, it can't take pictures. But there's a cheat code for that. Just press up, up, down, down, left, right, right, left and then "SET". This should enable photography mode.
i was going to buy the 550D, but then thought i'd spend the whee bit more for the canon 60D, got it yesterday, & wow very happy with it! used to watch these videos for months dreaming about 550D 60D & 7D, although the 60D is it!, anyone thinking about it,... order it, it really is awesome! =)

If you have the vision and you are creative enough, you can make a $800 canon 60D look like studio movie. That was the point I was trying to bring across...thanks
guguemichaels 6 months ago
@guguemichaels from a photography stand point though, you do want to get a better DSLR rather than a worse one, simply because of the ability and restrictions of each camera.
LunaticSumo 6 months ago
@guguemichaels am defenately with you Mr, but one thing is that you can't make a better Project without a better tool, you need tools that goes with your Project,, but yahhh you also need some experience on how to use the tools... But yahh your right

@guguemichaels Solid Proof: Old Nigahiga videos.
Nuff effing said!
FirefoxFreeze 5 months ago
@FirefoxFreeze What do you mean? What's solid proof? What's Old Nigahiga videos??? Explain...
guguemichaels 5 months ago
@guguemichaels Proof that cameras aren't everything are Nigahiga's OLD videos. The quality on them was terrible, but the hilarious content was what mattered!
FirefoxFreeze 5 months ago
@guguemichaels true. Too many people obsess over cameras when they don't even know anything about photography.
xxbluejay21 3 months ago 28
@guguemichaels Really good point there! But you have to have a camera to make your film.
Lillebror9494 2 months ago
@Lillebror9494 LoL!!! Yes you do just don't kill yourself or break the bank trying to buy a camera because of the hype surrounding it. All these camera manufacturers have marketing department that focuses only on how to sell you their product. 99% of the time they use technical terms to blind you to spend freaking thousands of dollars to buy a product that you may not need. Sony, Canon, Panasonic, JVC, Arri and Red are all at war with each other and we are the casualties..LoL
guguemichaels 2 months ago
@guguemichaels Could'nt agree more!
Lillebror9494 2 months ago
@guguemichaels I totally agree - but as a young videographer, I found most of my clients won't hire me unless I have a camera that appeals to them. It's not just a tool but also a "name card" :) Or, you can help making the less-video-educated people know this point, so I wont have a hard time explaining to them why I can't make a video slide show directly from a stack of paper photos :) :)
ghostmomo 2 months ago
@ghostmomo Make different price packages for your clients. If they want higher end camera, they should pay for it especially if you rent it. Do not go broke to buy a camera that's popular only to use it twice in one year for your clients. That's not smart at all. I have high end clients as well but I refuse to fall prey to cameras just for looks. My clients call me based on my work...so when they come, they come for the images I can give them not how pretty and fancy my camera is.
guguemichaels 2 months ago

ElephantShoeToo 7 months ago
@ElephantShoeToo All the Canon lines have the same censor that's probably what who ever you are talking to meant but the 5D is the strongest in low lights. I've shot two music videos ; one with the Canon 7D and the other one with the Canon 60D, you can check it out and Judge for yourself. To me, both cameras give good images, it's all about your budget.

If you want something between the 60D and the 550D (T3i) just get the 600D (T3i), it has the swivel screen and has the audio level adjustment, wireless flash trigger, and best for beginners it has a Scene Intelligent Auto setting so it sets everything. But to be fair even if you are a beginner planning to use a DSLR properly you might awell buy a really good one to start with, because you probably won't be getting a new one anytime soon...

is it better than nex vg10?
UFOJeroen 8 months ago
@UFOJeroen Was a hard choice between the two for me too. Out of all these comparison videos on here I went with the 60D. The Sony NEX VG10 is more expensive than the 60D. Canon 60D's (body only) costed me just $899 free shipping and no tax. The NEX VG10 is like $1499 everywhere I look! If you want good videos go for Sony. If you want good photos and videos (the best of both worlds) go for Canon.

is that for only in video recording or also picture? and how much ??

@yogyog23 Yes it's for both video recording and takes pictures, it is around $1,214.80 in the US I think ...

I'm a bit worried about the swivel screen breaking or pulling apart.. Looks quite fragile to me. =/

what about the t3i compared to the 60d?
MrCheespuff 9 months ago
@MrCheespuff The t3i just came out... that was before this video was made. The t3i does NOT have the top lcd screen, nor does it have special controls that you will find in the 60d. The round selector (the one you use to select all the pictures and menu options) is only found on the 60d. The t3i has 4 buttons. For a beginner, go with the t3i. But if you are used to DSLR's and the higher end cameras, go with the 60d. Unless it's just for photography... then go with the 7d. You're welcome

my budget restricts me from getting 7d, 60d...
4coils 9 months ago 41
@4coils if you can afford the 60d, the 650d id the way to go!!! i cant afford the 7d, i think i might get the 60d after the price dropps a bit
hitthedeckstudios 8 months ago
@4coils I have the 60d and my brother has the T2i and we compared them and the 60d has a better feal but the T2i is smaller and a little lighter. The build quality of the 60d is very nice. all the doors are rubber and have a very nice snug fit when you close them. When it came to video and photos the 60d is the way to go. If you are doing sports You would want the 60d because the frames per second is a lot faster. In my opinion i think you should save up for the 60d.
Bpasqua1 7 months ago 2
@Bpasqua1 thanks, i'll just settle for the t2i and sacrifice the build quality and fps. It's ok.

hristijank2 9 months ago

Matt, you forgot to mention that the only Canon DSLR with a Full frame sensor (& shallow d.o.f.) is the Canon 5dMkii, which renders this camera rather inferior for video.
joveeInNewEngland 10 months ago
man i don't even know what i want anymore. i was leaning heavily towards getting the Sony NEX VG10. but then i see the quality on this thing.... man. need to do more homework on this thing before i make a final decision....
kitches1991 10 months ago
@2migell this camera only shoots video. u gotta buy a separate camera attachment in order to shoot video. prices on those range anywhere from $200 - $600 for that camera attachment

@2migell No, it can't take pictures. But there's a cheat code for that. Just press up, up, down, down, left, right, right, left and then "SET". This should enable photography mode.

yos2481 10 months ago
14 people are missing out. What's to dislike about videomaking being made 100x easier ?
The rotating screen makes this the definitive HD DSLR out there at the moment.
The difference it makes is huge.
Hoping canon use this in all their models from here on in.
DavidNPhotography 11 months ago
you should make a review for the canon 600d (T3i) video quality on that is far more superior than the 60d from what I've seen...
blacklovin 11 months ago
i was going to buy the 550D, but then thought i'd spend the whee bit more for the canon 60D, got it yesterday, & wow very happy with it! used to watch these videos for months dreaming about 550D 60D & 7D, although the 60D is it!, anyone thinking about it,... order it, it really is awesome! =)
