  • What's the song playing during this?

  • Objectified is available streaming on Netflix btw

  • I like the idea of this movie. I started watching Helvetica but didn't finish it. I will go back and watch it now.

  • I just watched the movie today. It was great! I loved it!

But i was wondering if anyone knows where a full list of ALL the songs in the movie are. I saw some online credits that just said the bands/artists who made the songs, but I was looking for the song names also. If anyone knows where I can find the names of the songs that would be great. Thankyou!

  • The discussion began with ancient Greece...objectification itself as concept is one that is derived from philosophy and the ideas have been around since we have been.

  • charlieissocoollike brought me here

  • GREAT film....loved it.

  • and it affects every one of us

this will ultimately shape our future

  • PIIIIIISSSSSHHHHHHH

music goes well with it, what does that tell you????!!!!

  • i just watched this. it was pretty interesting and thought provoking. If you have a netflix account you can watch it free on the website. if you want to watch it and dont have an account let me know and i can give you my account info

  • Can somebody recommend me films like helvetica or objetified?

    Thanks in advance.

  • I think next step is going to the backgrounds. In simple words, a film about the Bauhaus and how and why design became an exclusive category for the privileged ones, from the good idea to make things handy, beauty and accesible for everyone.

  • 6 Stars. Hustwit is a creative blessing.

  • this song is fantastic

    love it!

  • the CD player was created and sold by MUJI, isn't it?

  • yes, fukasawa designed it

  • What's that CD player called? The one with the string you pull? n_n Thanks!

  • +-0 Japan Designer is a Naoto Fukasawa

wall-hung CD player for muji, 1999

  • El Ten Eleven!!!

  • What's that clock in 0:49

  • Comment removed

  • WTF are are you talking about? I just want to know where can I get the clock which appears at 49 seconds of the trailer

  • Naoto Fukasawa 2.5R clock

  • THANKS!

  • DAVIS

  • does anybody know what the song is called?

  • The song is in the sidebar. Jeez.

  • Comment removed

  • REALLY COOL! have to see it.

  • 1:23, I WANT THAT, BAD!

  • Mitchell Davis sent me this too, it looks nice!

  • This looks like it would be quite interesting to watch. Oh, and Mitchell sent me.

  • mitchell sent me toooo

  • looks awesome...maybe even better than helvetica

  • it'd be sick to be a designer

  • Well this looks very interesting.

And I adore that CD player at the beginning and end.

  • sent by mitchell davisss

  • :D ..................

  • Where can i buy it???

  • I've just bought it on iTunes! Thanks!

But where is your "video description box" ?

  • Does someone know the title of the song that's running during the video?

  • "more infos" in the video description box :

-- The song is "I Like Van Halen Because My Sister Says They Are Cool" by El Ten Eleven.

  • WANNA SEEEEEEEE!

  • Can't wait, should be real good.

  • Saw this available for pre-order at Microcinema. Squee, looks brilliant - loved Helvetica.

  • The man in the car, Chris Bangle, a great car designer I admire.

Unfortunately, he resigned from BMW, as he quoted, "Follow my passion,"

  • im searching the full video. Where can i get it?

  • The DVD is still not available. Gary Hustwit is travelling the world to showcase the movie. I got to meet him and saw the movie here in Montreal. Gary told me that the DVD will be available around August. I seriously hope you guys will like it, I loved it. Eye-opening.

    Hope that helps!

  • I can't wait for it! xD

  • It sounds promising as a subject, but I worry that it will be some exaltation of designers who often don't deserve it. If it's all about that object of desire and how it is marketed, I'm not interested. If it's about how marketing, and engineers, and even visionaries (or designers!) can get it wrong, as well as sometimes right, then that would be worth seeing and promoting.

  • Going to see this in two days, can't wait!! What a giant at 0:59 btw

  • Objectified is the second part of a 3-film design trilogy. Helvetica was the first part, and Gary just started on the third film... No details about the subject matter yet. Anyway, they're supposed to be linked aesthetically.

  • Ohhh, well, now that I know that...

  • i'm guessing architecture

  • @swissdots I love your username! I love Gary Hustwit! I love the Trilogy!

The latter two steered me towards Industrial Design. I'm only 18 so we'll see what happens ;)

  • I saw "Helvetica" and I liked it a lot, but this looks like "Helvetica 2." I understand there's such a thing as style, but this film appears it was shot EXACTLY like Helvetica. Even the music sounds the same. I know you can't change much when you're filming a documentary, but, c'mon, change something!

Maybe I'm being overcritical, but these are my first impressions of the film.

If you haven't seen "Helvetica," check it out.

  • I agree. It's pretty much is exactly the same, but you have to understand that documentaries are more about the content. So I think people will still appreciate Objectified. And besides, at least it's a nice clean style, right? ha.

  • Linked from ourmedia.

    This looks fantastic!

  • hehehe I saw this at a screening in Chelsea London a few weeks back, and yeh, Jonny Ive was there, so of course I shook has hand and said hello :) No jokes!

Apparently Stephen Fry was in the Audience too?... nice.

  • I can't find a release date for this. poor marketing

  • OMG...!!

    When is this coming out!!??

    I'm dying to see this...

  • can't wait to see this one.

  • I saw the film in Las Vegas at the Web MIX 09 after its premiere. It's really cool an Gary Hustwit is cool, too.

Does anyone know the name of the soundtrack?

  • The song is "I Like Van Halen Because My Sister Says They Are Cool" by El Ten Eleven. It's in the description.

  • lol. what a fool. Sorry, I forgot to click on "more info"

    thanks anyways.

  • Cant wait for the film..

  • Bring on May, can't wait until May to see it at the Barbican!

  • SWEET!

  • Really Really looking forward to this film!

  • WHOOO got tickets for the Boston screening at the MFA with Hustwit!

  • will this film be shown in Los Angeles, California? I tried to go to the opening in San Fran, but I was too busy.

  • I Like Van Halen Because My Sister Says They Are Cool - El Ten Eleven

  • Will there be a screening in Holland any time soon?

  • Really looking forward to seeing this movie. Greetings from Product Design UCA. The song is "I Like Van Halen Because My Sister Says They Are Cool" by El Ten Eleven.

  • i wasnt even looking for this but it caught my interest now.

  • Really looking forward to this movie.

Hello from Product Design in Dublin.

Any idea when or if this will be shown in Ireland?

  • Loved the music, who's it by?

  • el ten eleven. they're a fantastic and dangerously addicting band.

listen at your own risk :)

  • thanks, it sounds like they're well worth the risk. ;)

  • I'm torn. I absolutely loved Helvetica, and have a great interest in industrial design, but I also have have a problem with the mindless consumerism we're plagued with these days. It doesn't have anything to do with the quality of the film (I will likely go see it, with great pleasure as well), just a greater concern that looms above it.

  • you really need to wait and see the film... it doesn't just glamorize the objects, it's a conversation that looks at consumerism, identity, sustainability, etc...

  • Any idea when this is coming to Canada or at least DVD

  • loads of screenings in canada scheduled for april/may/june. details soon on the objectified film site.

  • Can't wait for the premiere. :)

  • im getting excited!!!! :D

  • I hope it makes it's way out to Portland Oregon.

  • it will. big portland event in the works, happening in may.

  • i JUST bought tickets for the chicago premier.

wanna spill any beans about who else is gonna do the q+a there?

  • Cheatdath:

    His name is Chris Bangle.

  • at 1:25 it's jonathan ive. chris bangle is just before him (in the car).

  • I love Hustwit's clean, contemporary documentary style. Having just seen Helvetica the other week, I'm definitely looking forward to this.

  • what's the name of the guy at 1:25

  • Jonathan Ive

  • i cant believe this actually happend in real like.. haha its kinda one of those things you have see to believe and i saw but im not sure i believe it.. but still its amazes me lol,

  • sexy, oh so sexy.

  • So Cool...

  • WHO CAN HELP ME TO WRITE DOWN THE TRANSCRIPS OF THIS VEDEO,i am an english learner,i just can hear some sentence clear.this is what i can hear clear.<helpwhen you see an object ,you make so many insumtions about that object in seconds what it does?**? how would i gonna do it **,how much things could it cost***.The object testifies to people it's transformed by man ****

  • English is not my native tongue, nor am I a teacher, but this is what I have made of it...

"When you see an object, you make so many assumptions about that object.

In seconds. What it does. How well its gonna do it. How much you think it should cost. The object testifies to the people that conceived it, developed it, manufactured it...

Sometimes we know who these designer are, sometimes we dont. But anything that is touched by men, is transformed by men, is by its very nature design."

  • part 2:

Ultimately, my job as a designer is to look into the future. You know, my job is about what is going to happen and not what has happened. All these physical objects in our lives. There is no real critic on them. Very, very little discussion on how these things really really affect us."

  • thx for your help ,fisrtly, well ,what does it mean by saying "How well its gonna do it",which confused me

  • I assume that it means: "how well the object is going to do, whatever it is designed to do". For example:, "How well is a camera going to take a picture?"

  • it make sense, thank you again

  • nicely done.

  • coooooooool

  • i'm really excited for this.

  • Nice. Can't wait to check this out.

  • Nice music

  • El Ten Eleven is the band incase your wondering.

  • ยอดเยี่ยมครับ ยอดเยี่ยม.. Life is design.. ^_^

  • Horribly amazing!

    looking forward to it.

  • Looks fantastic! =] I cannot wait to see further trailers/the real thing!

  • this is lovely! you have an amazing voice! =] well Done! carry on!

  • Great!

Anyone knows what's the device the appears just after the Leica camera?

  • my guess is a portable radio.

  • those are vintage braun radios, from the 1950s. designed by dieter rams.

  • they were not vintage by that time

  • sexy.

  • i wanna see it!

  • Naoto Fukasawa is the de facto best CONTEMPORARY industrial designer in the world. Jonathan Ive is a hack. A very good hack.

Anyways, research about Naoto Fukasawa if you're interested.

  • I really enjoy this trailer. I am also wondering where I can find the CD player that shows up in the first scene? Any help would be appreciated.

  • CD Player is available at MUJI

  • Comment removed

  • The song is I Like Van Halen Because My Sister Says They Are Cool by our friends El Ten Eleven, from their new record These Promises Are Being Videotaped

  • Well, I believe that this Doc. will come out at a VERY interesting time in our economic rundown. Hopefully It will be a positive tough and it will prompt designers who are really involved in what they output on the market. Design has drastically changed in the last few years. Design is present but YET obsolete. I hope this movie will show to the masses, how important our job is.

  • Does anybody know what music this is in the trailer? Artist and/or track? Looks (and sounds) lovely.

  • when I first saw this, the first 10 seconds gave me goose bumps and then I was just raged with excitement.

I cannot wait til this movie is out

Does anyone know if they're going to show it in theaters?

  • Of course it will be in a theater, but probably the mostly indie ones, museums (like the WAC), design schools and screenings in places far and wide.

  • cool! thanks for telling me. I'll check out local movie theaters for information.

  • Awesomeness!

  • I can't waint to spring of 2009... This is torture!

  • I know! Im shaking haha

  • I can't wait!!!!

  • Looking great, Gary. Although the material was shot before much discussion around the economic downturn, I am interested to see how future sentiments will be conveyed by some of the featured designers.

  • Cheap minded people will always be cheap no matter what the state of the economy is.

Apple clearly showcasing this all these years and something is telling me that they will keep doing the same thing.

Apple's products seem absurdly expensive compared to the competition and still manage (!?) to be top sellers on the their respective markets.

  • I understand your perspective, but I think the context of economic climate will continue to be a relevant factor into the design choices that companies like Apple make. It's not just about keeping an "absurdly expensive" premium. Marc Newson and Karim Rashid still rely on clients, and I fear they won't be the first people called upon to help companies innovate out of a downturn.

  • glad to see Hustwit continuing his trend of design edited to techno-music. The Helvetica screening at Pratt was one of the most awesome things ever, here's hoping I get to see this without dropping 10 bucks on it.

  • I'll be interested to hear what impression people have of the industrial design profession after watching this film. I wish I could say I was optimistic, but all I can muster is: I'm hopeful.

  • Loved Helvetica, looking forward to this.

  • Cool, I'm looking forward to this.
