BACHELORS! Everybody's talking at me.. The first time I've heard this song and for them at all was when I watched Only Fools and Horses, since then I downloaded all their stuff and I liked every single song of them I could find.
"Mirages - Sixty Symbols" This will explain it. The car disappear because it went behind the bent light and the snow is the mirage of the cloud. I think.
@FirstMaje Hello! There is no "bent light" to go behind. The super-heated air above the asphalt, by its different "index of refraction" and the fact that my camera is located far and at a very low angle from the place the car goes down in the hot air pocket, makes that the light bounces off and does not let us see the car actually going down in that hot air layer. Yes, what we see instead is a reflection of the sky above us.
@fazelife Iguess ou were "mentally fatigued" in class the day your teacher tried to teach you about "Refractive Index". This is simple science: when the air reaches this temperature. The index of refraction of air changes and with the very narrow angle of sight (telelens shot), it's enough to witness this phenomenon in such big scale. Death Valley is pretty hot in summer!
Not exactly. It's a "tunnel of light" caused by the overheated air above the asphalt that captures the light and blocks it from reflecting on the ground.
@KnAtiOn12 It's exactly the same phenomena. Only here it's very accentuated by the extreme heat on that spot and the dip in the road that makes car "dive" into it like a submarine.
I remember as a kid always being fascinated by watching the distant shimmering water that you would never catch up to. Usually seemed to occur on very hot sunny days, or any days the ground, and air near the ground, was warmer than the air above it. The best ones were when you were approaching a town and it appeared to be floating in the sky until you got close. Also seen distant herds of cattle which seemed to be floating in the sky as well.
Having grown up in western Kansas, this is something I saw thousands of times when growing up. Anyone who has lived in the high desert plains regions of the U.S., or similar terrain, will likely have seen it countless times.
I had never seen a mirage before, I actually kinda thought it was a myth. What a cruel trick the desert plays, it looked so much like water it's almost unbelievable! Nice song choice, by the way.
no i think it snows much more than that death valley is known for extreme conditions for like 110 daytime and maybe even 0 at night so it would be more common at night or evenning
No thanks for the info thats great! I had heard about a very narrow transit area on a road to DV but it farther North then 190 and I understand its accessible for the Northwest Big Pine entrance to DV which is just below Bishop. There are supposed to be a few very narrow slot canyon areas that allow for a road only one car width wide which would make for interesting driving. I can hardly wait to drive out there and enjoyed your video alot. Thanks for the reply.
Nice video ! If you dont me asking what road were you driving on somewhere in your video around the 1:30 to 2:00 mark that looked like it was only wide enough for one car ? I have heard the northwest access to DV from Big Pine ( I think ) has some spots that are only wide enough for one car - is this the road out of Big Pine ? Thanks
I've geolocated this video to approximately here, on the Hwy 190 South-East entrance, for the "Mirage". The narrow road is to a place - from the top of my mind - about "painted rock" or something (sorry, it was ten years ago). I can dig in my archives if this doesn't help you.
Beautiful video!

you call it a mirage, which it is technically but I call it the sun's reflection. I see these things in beautiful green lands here in michigan.

I Know.......In greece there are many in the highways. But at school we learned that it is because of the sun and the heat of the asphalt

@tvnshack Is that what makes the road look like it has water on it as you drive downward in the summer? o:

That narrow road is called "Artist's Drive".
An indeed ,,, that day, it snowed in Death Valley. One day every 30 years, I've been told. We reached Beatty just when the storm hit us bad.
