I think for the 50th Anniversary instead of doing an 11 Doctors they should do a flashback to the Time War and Paul McGann and Christopher Eccleston can reprise their roles, it would just be a great opportunity to tie the classic series with the Newer series. Because for the TV movie it began with Sylvester McCoy as the Doctor and so that tied in the classic with the movie, this missing link episode would give Paul and Chris more time that they need after such little time in the roles! :D
The movie wasn't the only outing for the 8th Doctor! Audiobooks! People reckon his reign was longer than the 4th Doctor if you take into account all his stories together :)
It's a shame because Mcgann was a really good Doctor however the bloody yanks had to screw Doctor Who the movie right up didn't they I mean come on people tell me I'm not alone in this thought. Paul was a great Doctor but his story sucks worse than the Manoptra.
You can see the 90s all over it. Any moment now the cast of Beauty and the Beast is gonna pop out. Oh well, the FOX network Doctor Who movie is easily as watchable as the Dark Shadows revival series. Paul McGann rules.
Paul McGann is my second favourite Doctor - it's a shame he's only had one appearance on-screen, but the Big Finish audio dramas are splendid. Bring him back in 2013, Moffat!
You know I love the 8th. He was my Doctor. First, he really has the most soothing voice of all the Doctors. Plus, he did such a good job in the role. He incompased all the previous Doctors, yet still seemed to make his own of the role. At times he seemed cheerful while behind his eyes you can still see the greif of traveling around the univurse and loosing all ythe people ou cared for. Exspecially in that scene where he looks back at Grace before he leaves. Just loook at the sorrow in his eyes.
I truly hope when they make the 50th anniversaryepisode of doctor who they'll add Paul McGann. He deserves to proof himself to fans, which I know he can. People should forget this movie but not this doctor.
@sanderf90 He's proven himself to us numerous times - He has done more than 50 audio dramas featuring Eight. but it sure would be nice to see him return for the big 50.
The Doctor often complains he's never been ginger, but the eighth looks ginger to me? Maybe it's post-regeneration stress and he keeps fprgetting about the eighth...
All things point to Eight returning in Nu Who in one of the upcoming episodes. He's got a new Screwdriver, a beard, short hair and a blue leatherjacket.
You know, I actually didn't mind the TV movie. It really wasn't that bad. Of course, Paul McGann was the best thing about it. It's a huge shame he was never in the series. He's my second favourite Doctor and I'm sure if he was in the series he would have become a fan favourite. The amount of times I've tried to imagine what it would have been like if he was in the series. :(
The sole entry of McGann as the Dr. is finally released on DVD in the US this week, I anxiously await my copy, with my memories of seeing it for the 1st time when I was 11 back 96. All I have to say is that it WAS magic getting 2 see something fans thought was dead back 2 life and Paul is truly a beautiful Doctor, Mccoy was brilliant as well. However, with the misfortune of hindsight, the TV movie is a working definition of the term misfire packing too much into so little time. I love it anyway.
Eight: A sense for style like Three, a craving for Jelly-Babies like Four, and looks like a cross between 4 and 6. And then he's the Genius Ditz of the bunch :-D
I love The EIghth Doctor. I'm convinced that he would be my favorite Doctor if he had more time to shine on TV. As it is, I love his audio stories, so I honestly am not complaining. If this had turned into a whole show, the scripts probably would have been terrible, and we wouldn't have gotten Eccleston, Tennant, and Smith!
The movie was OK... it certainly was better than SOME Doctor Who stories, but worse then others. Paul was a GREAT Doctor and I'm trying to get his radio drama stuff. I think the best part of the movie was that it was good enough to start with McCoy.
When the new series started, RTD could have had Paul Mcgann return, stay for the first 13 episodes, then regenerate into Ecclestone. It would have given the Eighth Doctor some closure, and given him a chance to show the audience how great he is, since the majority dont listen to the BF audios. Doing a flashback to the regeneration in the series now would be a bit hollow since most people would have little emotional investment, but I want to see something a short book about how it happened.
I really don't like all this hatred for the film. I think it was entertaining in its own right, even if it didn't quite capture the British feel of the original TV series. But, hey, he's in America, so what do you expect?
Even though I read the novel before seeing the film, I really did enjoy it. The only annoyance was there stupid inclusion of the TARDIS having a cloaking device!
@StKildaFan SIGH HOW IS IT BAD, apart from contuity, ITS F****ING EPIC, anyone who moans over litle errors like that is a crybaby, I just shrug and say "they're armerican,"
@StKildaFan I liked it. people are exsagurating when they say it failed. It failed IN AMERICA. Not england. It wasn't that better, and Eric Roberts is far superior to John Simm.
@OttselSpy24 I love how polite the comments on DW videos tend to be XD yeah, I think RTD's writing was quite...divisive? I mean, you either love it or you hate it, I guess. I was quite a fan of Simm as the Master, but I can see how RTD's writing might get a bit irritating.
@OttselSpy24 I saw nothing wrong with John Simm's performance, and Eric Roberts was certainly having fun with it. But I just remain thankful that it didn't lead to a long term series back then. RTD's version had it's flaws, but it was as good a return for the show as a fan could have asked for. But I maintain, McGann was a brilliant doctor.

That's just me, my generation etc. but there you go.
@TheEndlessWarlock While we really need to see Eight back on screen, there's enough supply material (Big Finish Eighth Doctor Adventures, BBC Books just recently republished) for the eighth Doctor wo read/hear up upon. Still, I hove he'll return for a possible Multi-Doc Story in 2013. I also rececntly figred out that 10's whimpy "I don't wanna go" was probably just a setup so 10 and 11 can bicker about each other just like 2 and 3 did before when they met each other^^
Paul McGann was a fantastic Doctor. Probably my favourite of all The Doctors. His Big Finish stuff is brilliant. Great video. Five Stars and favourite.
I so agree, but I thought that Paul McGann stil does stuff for Big Finish. I heared that there are still 8th Doctor stories being recorded whenever they can get all the actors together, although I may be wrong. But yes, he's an absolutely fantastic Doctor.
At a panel at Chicago TARDIS, Paul said a rather firm YES to coming back for whatever they'd want on TV if he 1. gets the call in the first place and 2. doesn't have to wear The Wig.
Fingers crossed Moffat will take advantage of his new position of power to give 8 at least a few more proper minutes onscreen.
Yeah, he should be in the new series, even its for- i dont know, a flash back or something. Sure he was in that christmas cyberman one, but meh, so was every one else, that dont count :P

I absolutely love this video. Thank you for putting together and posting this video. Paul McGann is an amazing actor and Doctor. Perfect choice of music, by any chance is this the version by the Flying Pickets? The beat syncs perfectly with clips and is utterly addicting to watch, fantastic job! :-)
I found out that this is indeed the Flying Pickets' version. 1:23 - 1:41 is one of my favorite parts of your video. Again, fantastic job, and keep up the good work.
I live in NZ too and i haven't been able to find this movie anywhere, It makes me feel like moving back to Cardiff sometimes lol. Anyway, can you tell me where you found it, please?
Hi- At first I tried Retrospace and they couldn't get it so then I put it into favorite searches on Trademe and waited a few weeks and it came up - it's Zone 2 + 4 so it might be an English/Welsh import. Good luck :-)
It was made in the US by a joint venture between Universal and the BBC. Though it airs on the BBC and was released on DVD over there, rights issues prevent it from being released over here.
I have a recording of it on Fox lol my moms the biggest DW fanatic ever believe me I know for a fact it was shown here...I think its on youtube somewhere good luck!
I have a rule--your villain must be as good or better than your hero--the master for the tv movie sadly fails the test. Every time I see the Eric Roberts master, I just cringe. They should have gotten a better actor. That's probably the sole mistake of the movie, in my opinion.
Can't believe it's not on general release in US after 10 yrs! Fox need to be destroyed! (Apart from Simpson). It's OK, not great - a 90's series would have been different- the UK radio version was good, but not a UK/Canada TV show - caught between the Star Trek and Buffy generations, it wouldhave failed
David Morrissey is NOT the next Doctor - thank goodness! Apart from that it's still open - i agree that Robert Carlyle would be FANTASTIC - such an intense weirdo! McGann is doing nicely with the radio broadcasts, and his portrayal would be very difficult to bring to screen. In the distant future, a 'Time War' feature film could be good though - with McGann of course.
the next doctors some unknown actor called matt smith creepy looking bloke sure i've seen him before on something looks familiar i'm sceptical and sort of have my doubts about him but hey i won't judge until 2010 he could be great.
I wanna see the tenth doctor ask the jelly baby question! We saw the master do it, so why not him? Everyone agree's he is quite like Tom Baker anyway :)
This song is perfect! To bad the movie is set in San Fransisco. Anyway, I head Paul Mcgann was set to be the the new season of Doctor Who, and we get to see the flashbacks of the time war! Yaay.
Yeah, your right, all though it would be great to see it in his last episode, it would be a good send off to him.
Get ready fangirls, because (GASP!) I don't like David Tennant. And, yes, brace yourselves, I don't like Rose either. Or the two of them together.
On the subject of the next doctor though, I am really hoping for Robert Carlyle, but I think it'll be David Morrisey. I think I could get used to him, he would be like the george o'malley to my doctor who :P
really, you think David Morrisey is going to be the next doctor? I don't really see him as the Doctor (maybe it is because I saw him as Ripley Holden in Blackpool, a character who I really despise). Since I am not really familiar with a lot of british actors (I'm American and I only know the big brits) I really cannot speculate who would be doctor 11. I'll just have to wait and see.
Actually I am American to (Canadian). Up here in our igloos we are currently on "Unicorn and the Wasp", but I've already watched all the episodes online.
Anyway, I think it'll be him because the Christmas special is called "The Next Doctor' where 10 meets his furture self and they save the world etc etc.
Anyway, I know Robert Carlyle from Angela's Ashes, and David Morrisey from blackpool But right now it's anyone's guess.
Hey, did you hear Amy Winehouse was going to be the Rani?
I think for the 50th Anniversary instead of doing an 11 Doctors they should do a flashback to the Time War and Paul McGann and Christopher Eccleston can reprise their roles, it would just be a great opportunity to tie the classic series with the Newer series. :-)
filmdirector32 2 years ago
I found out that this is indeed the Flying Pickets' version. 1:23 - 1:41 is one of my favorite parts of your video. Again, fantastic job, and keep up the good work.

annwags 2 years ago
I live in New Zealand and have it on a DVD that says Zone 2 and 4 (NZ & Australia) like all my other Doctor Who DVDs. Hard to find but worth it.
flashrobbie 2 years ago
I live in NZ too and i haven't been able to find this movie anywhere, It makes me feel like moving back to Cardiff sometimes lol. Anyway, can you tell me where you found it, please?
TheCrimsonSmurf 2 years ago
Hi- At first I tried Retrospace and they couldn't get it so then I put it into favorite searches on Trademe and waited a few weeks and it came up - it's Zone 2 + 4 so it might be an English/Welsh import. Good luck :-)
flashrobbie 2 years ago
Amazon. But I don't know if that works in NZ...

am i weird or what cos i sorta like the film but McGann is a AMAZING doctor
owenharperisnotdead 2 years ago 5
You are not alone. McGann does very well with a hackneyed script. Charmer, Policeman, clever and "easy on the eyes" :)))

Awesome Tardis, Awesome Doctor , Great Great promise, could of been one of the best!
nice moments, but overall crap plot, just watchable film.

I this the Sting version or does someone else sing it?
powerhousechipmunk23 2 years ago
Thirteen years and this movie still hasn't shown in the U.S. I can't even find it on the internet.
Lunargleam2 2 years ago
It must of done. It was made in the US.
megashorts 2 years ago
It actually was shown a couple times I saw it once.
DoctorWhoisit 2 years ago
It was made in the US by a joint venture between Universal and the BBC. Though it airs on the BBC and was released on DVD over there, rights issues prevent it from being released over here.
DarthBombshell 2 years ago
It was made in Canada as far as I know.
commandox20 2 years ago
Yup, it was all done in Vancouver.
RubyCosmos 2 years ago
I have a recording of it on Fox lol my moms the biggest DW fanatic ever believe me I know for a fact it was shown here...I think its on youtube somewhere good luck!
Nmubunny 2 years ago
The song that goes with this is both addictive and very very fitting because the Doctor is a foreigner on his favourite planet.

You not seen McCoy then? :p

(I should clarify I actually like McCoy, so booo you any thumbs-downererers!)

I'm not overly keen on the film, but I really liked Paul McGann as the Doctor. I can't help but wish we had a few TV seasons with him in the role.
Another great choice of song.
FlyingFoxOz 2 years ago 4
This is fun - I am guessing this is the modern Flying Pickets' version of Sting's Englishman In New York, which goes well with McGann
Agreed, great cinematography, but also good editing and good design from Richard Hudolin
dfarmbrough 2 years ago
I have a rule--your villain must be as good or better than your hero--the master for the tv movie sadly fails the test. Every time I see the Eric Roberts master, I just cringe. They should have gotten a better actor. That's probably the sole mistake of the movie, in my opinion.
harrietamidala1691 2 years ago
Can't believe it's not on general release in US after 10 yrs! Fox need to be destroyed! (Apart from Simpson). It's OK, not great - a 90's series would have been different- the UK radio version was good, but not a UK/Canada TV show - caught between the Star Trek and Buffy generations, it wouldhave failed

I hope they release the Eighth Doctor's movie in america soon; I can't wait to see it on the big (well, bigger) screen!
TaylorOfIdaho 3 years ago
what...it aint in america yet? It was made in America!
adriciscute3 2 years ago
Technically, it was made in Canada, (at least, mostly) but yeah, it's still not in America.
I think the reason is something about copyright issues between the BBC and Fox.
TaylorOfIdaho 2 years ago
lol sorry about that, it's a gd movie ^^
adriciscute3 2 years ago
There are some issues with "complicated licensing" apparently.

Thats Bull****! (Sorry about language)
adriciscute3 2 years ago
So is the movie.
Sorry xD
But yeah. It's stupid.
thatenglishkid 2 years ago
-.- the movie is better than the version that went into cinemas!
adriciscute3 2 years ago
There are two versions? Gahhh x_x
thatenglishkid 2 years ago
NO there was one before which was black and white... with peter crushing
adriciscute3 2 years ago
Oh. First, it wasn't in B+W. Secondly Peter Cushing's movies are shitloads better than the American shit we got.
thatenglishkid 2 years ago
...Still like this one better even if the Americans Made it ^^ (***s They steel everything off us!)
adriciscute3 2 years ago
Fair enough. We can agree to disagree then? :p
Don't get me wrong - McGann's cool, the TARDIS is cool... it has awesome elements but I hate the plot with a passion.
thatenglishkid 2 years ago
Same the plot was off! And yeah We can

same here :D here is to the most overlooked doctor *raises a cup of tea* cheers:D
AJSZodiac 3 years ago 5
David Morrissey is NOT the next Doctor - thank goodness! Apart from that it's still open - i agree that Robert Carlyle would be FANTASTIC - such an intense weirdo! McGann is doing nicely with the radio broadcasts, and his portrayal would be very difficult to bring to screen. In the distant future, a 'Time War' feature film could be good though - with McGann of course.
lozman67 3 years ago 3
He could still be 11.
thatenglishkid 3 years ago
the next doctors some unknown actor called matt smith creepy looking bloke sure i've seen him before on something looks familiar i'm sceptical and sort of have my doubts about him but hey i won't judge until 2010 he could be great.
jrbrooks19 3 years ago
when?
harrietamidala1691 3 years ago
Thank God for Big Finish! It's too bad those are just audio and not video, too. Then people could see how aweosme McGann really is!!
penguinsloveDW 3 years ago 3
I wanna see the tenth doctor ask the jelly baby question! We saw the master do it, so why not him? Everyone agree's he is quite like Tom Baker anyway :)
This song is perfect! To bad the movie is set in San Fransisco. Anyway, I head Paul Mcgann was set to be the the new season of Doctor Who, and we get to see the flashbacks of the time war! Yaay.
Berrypoint 3 years ago 2
Where did you hear that?
Can we trust them?
Sindre1 3 years ago
with david tennant leaving after the 2009 specials, I don't think he is going to have his Jelly Baby chance.
harrietamidala1691 3 years ago 3
Yeah, your right, all though it would be great to see it in his last episode, it would be a good send off to him.
Get ready fangirls, because (GASP!) I don't like David Tennant. And, yes, brace yourselves, I don't like Rose either. Or the two of them together.
On the subject of the next doctor though, I am really hoping for Robert Carlyle, but I think it'll be David Morrisey. I think I could get used to him, he would be like the george o'malley to my doctor who :P
Berrypoint 3 years ago 6
really, you think David Morrisey is going to be the next doctor? I don't really see him as the Doctor (maybe it is because I saw him as Ripley Holden in Blackpool, a character who I really despise). Since I am not really familiar with a lot of british actors (I'm American and I only know the big brits) I really cannot speculate who would be doctor 11. I'll just have to wait and see.
harrietamidala1691 3 years ago
Actually I am American to (Canadian). Up here in our igloos we are currently on "Unicorn and the Wasp", but I've already watched all the episodes online.
Anyway, I think it'll be him because the Christmas special is called "The Next Doctor' where 10 meets his furture self and they save the world etc etc.
Anyway, I know Robert Carlyle from Angela's Ashes, and David Morrisey from blackpool But right now it's anyone's guess.
Hey, did you hear Amy Winehouse was going to be the Rani?
Berrypoint 3 years ago
Amy Winehouse as the Rani? You've got to be joking.
My ideal Rani would resemble and sound like Angelica Houston (I know she's am
