its amazing how to this day, every guitar video on youtube is commented with which guitarist is better if we are watching the true pros. guys think about it this way, it doesnt matter how good you are. until guitar playing ends on earth(if it ever does) there will always be someone out there that is better than the one ppl think is the best. there will always be a player somewhere better than malmsteen, vai, satch, hendrixx, and even EVH. just respect the music...
@Israelsniped120 Good point, but there will never be guitar players whi are better than other guitar players. In my opinion, John Petrucci is the best guitar player in the world, but someone else might think he sucks. You can't compare guitarists.
@guitarbassist95 another good point..every guitarist out there that has a set skill, has his own style unless he is a cover artist only. that style makes him/her unique and therefore how can anyone really say who is truly best
@kristofor12345 that like saying Joe Sats is better then Kurt Hammet...its all about the style sure the taught this guys to sheard but they also have totally different styles of music I mean compare Berine Bucket of Brains to Racer X.....totally different music or Sats band to Metallica..again totally different. I will say that Paul is the man though
@jcaj89 not even. while MAB has amazing speed and is a great player, he's not even in the same realm as Paul Gilbert in terms of technical proficiency. Marty Friedman, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, and Jason Becker (before MS) would be in the same league, as well as a few others. MAB is very overrated because of his speed but he lacks imagination and improvisation.
@Thurman91 Well a lot say that MAB is the greatest which it could be... but I have never seen other guitar player playing the licks that PG uses for example I saw an instruccional video where he shreds from low E and jumps to the high E and backwards...... thats insane..... :o .. If I had to choose I'll go for PG lm/
@Thurman91 ??? MAB is probably has the most clean technique nowadays. He can play almost everything: 5 & 6 string sweeps, string skipping, alternate & economy picking, hybrid picking - all of them at insane speeds with 0 mistakes playing LIVE (I've seen him 3 times). He also invented the "Gargoyle Lick". His music might sound "strange" to some, but it's because his style mainly comes from jazz instead of rock/blues.
@berts1405 I find a lot of emotion in many of his songs, it's my personal opinion though. Saying that a song has or not emotion is a very subjective matter, since every musician connects with his audience in different ways. I respect all the different opinions about this.
"Emotion" is a buzzword which has long been rent useless by vague insinuations that fast guitar players can't play emotively. Ignore it, for it's generally an ignorant comment. Also, I find for those guys "emotional" playing really describes one emotion , or slow, bend-heavy licks.
@berts1405 Retard. Listen to more of his stuff. For instance "I cannot tell a Lie". He is one of the most versatile shredders out there. He plays everything. Check out "Down to Mexico". Who is YOUR favorite guitarist?
@ritzanu90 buckethead cant seem to keep to a routine, he tends to repeat himself often and solo overtop of everyone, its kind of messy sounding, dont get me wrong, hes still better than i am, i speak the truth tho

Buckethead > Paul Gilbert. I appreciate Paul and love him a ton, but all you folks saying Paul trumps Bucket, I wager you all haven't heard everything Buckethead has done. They're also different styles - its like comparing Steve Vai to Marty Friedman... you just can't do that. I will say this though, Paul's rocking is really locked into theory, and Buckethead goes places Hendrix never knew about. This is why I say Bucket > ALL. This where you all ignorantly rebuttal, and I don't waste my breath.
@Faustblix not bad for someone who hates 'trolling'( jk ) ;D...well i would say that u just cannot compare "A R T ".... which is what ur listening here, art pieces, and Art my FRIENDS, is all subjective.. so only bc of this, i think is good enough reason to stop comparing 2 MASTERS :D .. i think theres too much kid around here tbh :P.... *Peace*
Paul is the only guitarist who could ever write an emotional, smooth, creative and technically advanced wonder of a masterpiece like this. His songs aren't pure über shreddage either, that's what I like about them. That's why I find Yngwie boring. Has that man ever struck a chord in his lifetime?
@Voddgreen Na, I don't hate him - Except he plays the same basic solo on every tune. PG is epic - way ahead of everyone else now, way the hell out on the cutting edge - flying through time and space with The Gargoyle, dam, what a player
@ 1:50 - 2:10 ... I dare a bass player to figure out that ! It's so crazy? perfect!! ... and the ending ... @ 4:15 , THE BEST particular ending to a song I've ever heard, or my favorite ;-)
@bobbyalligator7 dude my mind is so wrapped around guitar that i was trying to figure out if you were talking about a song or guitar player lol. Yes i know what an emp is lol.
@kristofor12345 WTF are you talking about Buckethead Is A shitty player compared to paul you can never ever ever ever compare any guitar player to paul gilbert , buckethead ... his name is a shame :S
@nerotomas Buckethead is a great and versatile musician, I personally enjoy his music better than Paul's but that's just me. Besides I wasn't comparing the two, I was saying that they're both good guitar players and seeing them together would be the shit. But why would you hate on any guitar player? Especially someone like buckethead, people like that have busted their asses for years to do what they love, even if their music isn't something you find as good.
@kristofor12345 I'd agree if you said Giblert doesn't make good chill songs because he doesn't want to, and even then that depends on what you think is 'good' and 'chill'. There's very few things Paul Gilbert can't do on guitar.
@42akhan All musicians have limitations. But even if Gilbert can be versatile but chooses not to, that still means a lack of versatility. Now there's a lot of people who don't care and just wanna hear him do what he does best, which I have no problem with; but I personally like buckethead's music more because he expresses more emotion more often and can do some pretty badass stuff as well.
@42akhan Personally I may disagree with him, but I think the albums he'd be talking about would be more like Electric Tears and Colma. I love both artists, though.
@42akhan Crime Slunk Scene is an awful album, Soothsayer is alright but I agree with you it's a soulless piece of crap. But that should not represent buckethead's entire musical ability, many other albums show much better music that's actually pretty innovative in a lot of ways.
@distortme09 Machete (the solos), A Real Diamond in the Rough, Sanctum, Nottingham Lace (live), Mantaray, Padmasana, Ghost, Asylum of Glass (live), The Miracle of Surrender, Four Rivers, Earth Heals Herself, Too Many Humans, Mustang, Inward Journey, Shadows Between the Sky, City of Woe, Broken Mirror......and those are just the ones I know, there's so many albums of his I haven't heard
@kristofor12345 I'm not about to get into an argument over this, because it's all so very subjective , but I gotta say you're making the mistake of presuming emotional playing equates to blues licks from what I've heard on that list.
@42akhan I think it's more of natural minor/triad-based licks that are played with blues techniques (slides and bending) on the songs that I like, but I'm not at all trying to demean Gilbert (or even say that Buck is better) and I can completely understand why someone would like Gilbert more. I just don't like the idea of people judging buckethead based on his mindless shred songs, because he has some good stuff that's really worth hearing.
@kristofor12345 I agree with you 100 percent. Buckethead has some albums that I just wont listen to, but then he has some of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. There is a Buckethead song for everyone. Paul Gilbert and Buckethead are my two favorite guitarists and I don't feel like one is better than the other, they just have different styles.
@kristofor12345 Have you heard "I Cannot Tell a Lie"? I think thats pretty chill and it shows a lot of emotion. I personally prefer Paul because i think he really knows what he is doing you can see that in his instructional videos he explains off of what he plays his stuff. Don´t get me bad i really like Buckethead but prefer Paul
@kristofor12345 watching gilbert play with buckethead is like watching the twin of gilbert. i would like to see gilbert play with malmsteen, two different styles and techniques but both kick ass...
@silentboy85 They sound nothing alike, they're in the same school of guitar playing but are ver different in other ways, the main thing is that Buckethead borrows much more from blues than Paul
@jordanp529 I think paul would probably be a bit offended by what you said.
Paul Gilbert taught buckethead for a year and I know for a fact that he'd be so proud of buckethead right now. Buckethead is the closest thing a guitarist will ever be to a composer, and still be able to play heavy metal like he does.
@xTiLkx paul himself has huge respect for buckethead? where did you find that information out? that dude knows EXACTLY what hes talking about man. You just keep thinking that buckethead is untouchable but DONT try to lecture other people about how great he is because youre WRONG.
@camsell456 What the fuck are you talking about? You realize it's possible to respect someone without being his fan-bitch right? How about you fucking educate yourself before posting irrelevant crap.
@jordanp529 Simply I dont think so, both are very multifaceted and have stratospheric skill and are so high that is simply rediculous and puerile to compare them. Its like compared Satriani and Malmsteen... The cuestion is only that they are different styles and I love Bucky and Mr.Paul the true musicians that must be respected and apreciated instead of manufactury mainstrem "musicians"
@jordanp529 I wouldnt say he is better, but Im not sayn buckethead is better either, buckethead is more emtional guitarist. So is paul but he is too, but his style is like faster than usual. I respect your opinion though
@silentboy85 the song viking kong was wrote as a duet for paul and malmsteem but malm never did it.......sad i would love to see them play it together.
Obviously everyone is still butt hurt about what I had previously commented. To reply to the obvious paul gilbert fans, he is a great teacher and innovator of the metal world. In my opinion, yngwie has invented a more classical, yet shredding kind of guitar playing, and that's it! Sure, others are great in their own ways, but if your talking speed and originality, I'd say yngwie's got em beat, hands down! End of discussion...
Difference between Paul gilbert and Michael Angelo Batio: MAB only does technical songs, while PG makes artistic songs.
Concerning Malmsteen, he only plays the same licks all the time, first you enjoy, but when you discovers that his others songs are moreorless the same, you don't have any doubts on who is the best.
Conclusion: Malmsteen and MAB can suck it! Paul Gilbert ROXXX
@DrMatban Well if you really analyze what they're doing, you can really distinguish what Yngwie is playing, and it's not all the same. They're all pioneers in the rock ways, but Yngwie is definately one of the the best to ever do it! He is the original pioneer for neoclassical guitar playing. Yngwie was Eddie Van Halen's idol, and Eddie was Paul's idol. Randy Rhodes was MOB's idol. Yngwie was just the baddest of his time, I haven't heard anyone with matched speed or versatility.
If paul gilbert is sweeping this shit is serious....

Now there's a lot of people who don't care and just wanna hear him do what he does best, which I have no problem with; but I personally like buckethead's music more because he expresses more emotion more often and can do some pretty badass stuff as well.
kristofor12345 1 year ago
@kristofor12345 More emotion more often? On albums like Crime Slunk Scene? We'll have to agree to disagree.
42akhan 1 year ago
@42akhan Personally I may disagree with him, but I think the albums he'd be talking about would be more like Electric Tears and Colma. I love both artists, though.
Etyrnal2K 1 year ago
@42akhan Crime Slunk Scene is an awful album, Soothsayer is alright but I agree with you it's a soulless piece of crap. But that should not represent buckethead's entire musical ability, many other albums show much better music that's actually pretty innovative in a lot of ways.
kristofor12345 1 year ago
@kristofor12345 more emotion...what???? on what song
distortme09 1 year ago
@distortme09 Machete (the solos), A Real Diamond in the Rough, Sanctum, Nottingham Lace (live), Mantaray, Padmasana, Ghost, Asylum of Glass (live), The Miracle of Surrender, Four Rivers, Earth Heals Herself, Too Many Humans, Mustang, Inward Journey, Shadows Between the Sky, City of Woe, Broken Mirror......and those are just the ones I know, there's so many albums of his I haven't heard
kristofor12345 1 year ago
@kristofor12345 I'm not about to get into an argument over this, because it's all so very subjective , but I gotta say you're making the mistake of presuming emotional playing equates to blues licks from what I've heard on that list.
42akhan 1 year ago
@42akhan I think it's more of natural minor/triad-based licks that are played with blues techniques (slides and bending) on the songs that I like, but I'm not at all trying to demean Gilbert (or even say that Buck is better) and I can completely understand why someone would like Gilbert more. I just don't like the idea of people judging buckethead based on his mindless shred songs, because he has some good stuff that's really worth hearing.
kristofor12345 1 year ago
@kristofor12345 I agree with you 100 percent. Buckethead has some albums that I just wont listen to, but then he has some of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. There is a Buckethead song for everyone. Paul Gilbert and Buckethead are my two favorite guitarists and I don't feel like one is better than the other, they just have different styles.
Dumplestiltzken 11 months ago
@kristofor12345 Have you heard "I Cannot Tell a Lie"? I think thats pretty chill and it shows a lot of emotion. I personally prefer Paul because i think he really knows what he is doing you can see that in his instructional videos he explains off of what he plays his stuff. Don´t get me bad i really like Buckethead but prefer Paul

@kristofor12345 watching gilbert play with buckethead is like watching the twin of gilbert. i would like to see gilbert play with malmsteen, two different styles and techniques but both kick ass...
silentboy85 11 months ago
@silentboy85 They sound nothing alike, they're in the same school of guitar playing but are ver different in other ways, the main thing is that Buckethead borrows much more from blues than Paul
kristofor12345 11 months ago
@kristofor12345 Paul is also so much better than Bucket Head.

@ThePawelel Thats not true, a lot of people think that but hes not buckethead
JDLMetalHead 11 months ago
@jordanp529 I think paul would probably be a bit offended by what you said.
Paul Gilbert taught buckethead for a year and I know for a fact that he'd be so proud of buckethead right now. Buckethead is the closest thing a guitarist will ever be to a composer, and still be able to play heavy metal like he does.
1sephiroth8 10 months ago 3
@jordanp529 oh shut the hell up
Even paul himself has huge respect for Buckethead, so why can't you? Because you have no idea what you're talking about
xTiLkx 10 months ago
@xTiLkx paul himself has huge respect for buckethead? where did you find that information out? that dude knows EXACTLY what hes talking about man. You just keep thinking that buckethead is untouchable but DONT try to lecture other people about how great he is because youre WRONG.
camsell456 10 months ago
@camsell456 What the fuck are you talking about? You realize it's possible to respect someone without being his fan-bitch right? How about you fucking educate yourself before posting irrelevant crap.

@jordanp529 Buckethead's bucket would explode under the pressure of Paul's playing!

GuilleGuiden 9 months ago
@jordanp529 Why people always gotta compare? Their 2 different musicians, not athletes.

End of discussion...
tdub420ish 1 year ago
@tdub420ish no, yngwie is less individuality than most other guitarists.
that's the end of discussion.

DrMatban 1 year ago 4
@DrMatban Well if you really analyze what they're doing, you can really distinguish what Yngwie is playing, and it's not all the same. They're all pioneers in the rock ways, but Yngwie is definately one of the the best to ever do it! He is the original pioneer for neoclassical guitar playing. Yngwie was Eddie Van Halen's idol, and Eddie was Paul's idol. Randy Rhodes was MOB's idol. Yngwie was just the baddest of his time, I haven't heard anyone with matched speed or versatility.
