my left arm doesn't stretch out too well. it's been a whole year i haven't practiced or done any kind of sports. how can i get back on track, i used to do 45 reps per 4 sets be4 the injury . now only 20 and going down in the later sets
this really works i am 13 and i weighed like 7 stone and i go boxing ... it was quite embarrasing coz i cudnt do many i started doin this for like a month and i now weigh just over 8 stone and i can now keep up with the rest ov the guys at boxing ... if this works for me .. a 13 yr old which is harder for me than u coz i am obviously not developed completely yet it will work for you ... if it doesnt do anything for you .. i suggest as he said tryin it a different way

Maybe you have a small frame so you're not lifting very much weight. So if you weigh like 120 pounds. between your chest, triceps and shoulders you're not lifting that much. I don't know maybe wear a backpack with some weights in it if its too easy.

I'm not Scooby, but I have been paying attention to a lot of his workouts and a bunch of others. From what I understand, working the same muscles for two days in a row can be detrimental so my guess is every other day or every two days.
im no expert at all, not even close, im only 15, but ive heard tons of stuff about lifting everyday against lifting every other day, ive researched a ton, and i think ive got a good answer. If your body can handle going 2-3-4 days in a row, go for it, if your body is too sore, rest a day. but hey im not saying thats right, i could be wrong, but my cousin lifts everyday and it worked for him, hes very very strong

When you say to start doing the workouts once-a-week (for newbies), is this to allow proper time for the muscles to rebuild and clear the lactic acid? Will adding incrementally (1-2 extra reps per week) during this beginning time will result in an increased capacity over time to gain upper-body strength? so ive been working out with some dumbbells lately and im really sore in my forearms where my elbows are. And it hurts to stretch my arms out. is this ok? hey i have the perfect push-ups and instead of lifing weights i did those for 6 weeks and it raised my max on bench press by 35 pounds. their excellent.
2.) The positioning of my hands during my push-up position, is the same as when I am with my gf during missionary position. I am worried that if I start doing them on my fists, I will get used to this position and then have difficulty when I'm with my girlfriend. What do you think?

flipchrisflip, maybe someone on here can correct me if im wrong, but your body sounds like mine an absolute inferno, the calories u are eating is just being converted into energy rather than weight... the only way to stop this is to put in more calories so ur body converts it into weight gain.
1.) What is your opinion on doing "burpees"? It looks like a really good exercise, but part of doing them requires me to put my hands in the "un-natural position". Is it worth it? Is there an alternative? I can't really see myself doing burpees on my fists.
Perfect pushups are fine but overpriced. I would just use a $13 pair of pushup stands or better yet, do them on your fists. If you really want to get a workout, learn to do them on your fingertips, martial arts style.
Hey Scoob, I have a hard question to answer (well I find it hard anyway). I have been doing pushups for a couple of years on my wrists (like you say not to) and they crack and crunch, I actually stopped a month or so ago due to some pain I was getting, so thanks for making me aware. I have been doing them on my fists now, I find it a much better workout (especially good for toughening my knuckles up for my boxing) but the joint pain is still there. Would you have any idea how I could stop this?

I have a deformed little finger due to an old fracture, so I can't really use my right fist properly because the little finger comes in the way. Definitely stop doing the lunges, knee pain is nothing to be messed with. Typically the problem is that people let their knee move forward past their toes - knee should remain behind the toes.
Thats not a normal kind of pain, I would lay off the pushups for awhile and see if you can get it to heal. When you start back up try doing them differently. You might need to work with a physical therapist to figure out what is going on.

BECAUSE, its the same thing as bench pressing except your pushing your upper body weight.
you may not feel the pain in your chest, but its still okay. because its still working. AND, when you go down doing a push up and look at your chest, its working by squeezing against each other.

Hey Scooby. I started in on lifting this past April, and thanks to your videos demonstrating proper form, I've already seen some fairly dramatic results. I'm 6'7", and when I started I was 305lbs, and now I'm, guess what, 305lbs. I've lost quite a few inches in the bad place and put on some in the good places, though, so I know where the weight all went.
I just turned 30, you're an inspiration to us who start late. I work out in a college gym and just want to smack all those kids. :)
You are living proof that you can lose fat and gain muscle. I get asked all the time, "is it possible to lose fat and gain muscle?" YES! YES! YES! Just lift weights with intensity and make sure you eat 5-6 small, nutritious, well balanced meals a day.
Another point that's often overlooked is water. Drink water constantly, even if you don't think you're thirsty, you probably are, if you're like me. You can't build muscle or lose fat effectively without enough enough water. Water is zero calorie, so drinking lots of it also takes the edge off hunger without increasing caloric intake.
In one night I have discovered your site, Couch 2 5K and the 100 Pushups site. If this isn't the universe telling me to get off my arse and do something... I don't know what is. Great videos, great sense of humour and a body to inspire. Scooby - you are an inspiration!! I'm starting next week!!
Push yourself harder. If you can only do 15-17 now then after you have done your 15 reps, without rest, drop to your knees and do as many knee pushups as you can. This will help you get stronger and eventually you will be able to do more reps.

you have to let your muscle rebuild after a workout, thats why he says to not do it but every so often because if you do your basically getting no where and working for nothing.
If you want to kick start your workouts, if you are a beginner you can start with my "Vacation Workout" video and do that for the first week or two before going to the once per week plan
i used to do pushups with palms flat on the floor like you showed. I tried the fisted push ups on cushions, and i find it a lot harder to do that the flat palmed ones. Is this sposed to happen?

i started basic training when i was 13. just push-ups, sit-ups. light light weights. 15 years old sounds like a good time. but leave the heavy stuff untill you are 19 i say. good luck :)
Actually there is three main exercises you can do to work every muscle in the body. Using Free weights. Thats Squats, military press,and Bench press.Which the push-up substitutes the bench press.And swimming laps in a pool at least once a week.
I think your video is very good.I'm 42 myself. I use to work out quite a bit. I want to start working out again but i know it wont do any good without a good diet. What is your daily diet. What kind of foods do you eat?I know from experience you wouldn't have that build at 47 without having some special diet.

Ask a friend to watch you do them. Once they tell you where your body is straight, its pretty easy to remember that position.

YES.
push ups, do increase your chest muscles.
BECAUSE, its the same thing as bench pressing except your pushing your upper body weight.
you may not feel the pain in your chest, but its still okay. because its still working. AND, when you go down doing a push up and look at your chest, its working by squeezing against each other.

yeah since muscle weighs more than fat when you gain muscle, you also gain weight but you burn off the fat

Scooby i got a question i Weight 120, i am very skinny and all i want is a good looking chest and i want to gain weight beacasue my chest is very flat, will 2 months of doing 30 pushups nd eating alot of food with high amounts of proteins like eggs every other day will make my chest stick out more and more defined??

Hey Scooby. I started in on lifting this past April, and thanks to your videos demonstrating proper form, I've already seen some fairly dramatic results. I'm 6'7", and when I started I was 305lbs, and now I'm, guess what, 305lbs. I've lost quite a few inches in the bad place and put on some in the good places, though, so I know where the weight all went.
I just turned 30, you're an inspiration to us who start late. I work out in a college gym and just want to smack all those kids. :)

You are living proof that you can lose fat and gain muscle. I get asked all the time, "is it possible to lose fat and gain muscle?" YES! YES! YES! Just lift weights with intensity and make sure you eat 5-6 small, nutritious, well balanced meals a day.

Another point that's often overlooked is water. Drink water constantly, even if you don't think you're thirsty, you probably are, if you're like me. You can't build muscle or lose fat effectively without enough enough water. Water is zero calorie, so drinking lots of it also takes the edge off hunger without increasing caloric intake.

Push yourself harder. If you can only do 15-17 now then after you have done your 15 reps, without rest, drop to your knees and do as many knee pushups as you can. This will help you get stronger and eventually you will be able to do more reps.

i used to do pushups with palms flat on the floor like you showed. I tried the fisted push ups on cushions, and i find it a lot harder to do that the flat palmed ones. Is this sposed to happen?

its called a collar bone, and it's far from a muscle. the only way to make these less noticeable is to gain weight, both in muscle and fat.

i started basic training when i was 13. just push-ups, sit-ups. light light weights. 15 years old sounds like a good time. but leave the heavy stuff untill you are 19 i say. good luck :)

Actually there is three main exercises you can do to work every muscle in the body. Using Free weights. Thats Squats, military press,and Bench press.Which the push-up substitutes the bench press.And swimming laps in a pool at least once a week.

I think your video is very good.I'm 42 myself. I use to work out quite a bit. I want to start working out again but i know it wont do any good without a good diet. What is your daily diet. What kind of foods do you eat?I know from experience you wouldn't have that build at 47 without having some special diet.
