The goal would not be illegal today as the cross bar is the high stick measure AND the first to score this type of goal was Bill Armstrong, Legg picked it up from watching Armstrong who played for Albany in the AHL....agreed - learn your hockey history before posting please.
@jayreid99999 no, it would NOT be illegal... you correctly stated the rule however at what point did he raise his stick above the crossbar? he did not, he simply picked it up and and wrapped it around the upper corner. As I said, it is fairly common place to be able to pull that move off now, but so many more people know about it, it just doesn't happen because all you have to do is lightly slash the other guys stick the puck comes right off... it's easily defended.
To be clear the Great* Sidney Crosby did this back in the QMJHL in the 2004-05 season... that would be 8 full years after Mike Legg did it. Not that it really matters, but Legg was the first documented player to use this technique. Learn your damn hockey history !
What????? No it hasn't. There's nothing remotely illegal about that. The only difference is people aren't surprised when they see somebody try to pull it off and they just slash their stick before they can do it now. Really not hard to defend, it was just unexpected at the time.
It's a nice one, but not very original. Some kid name Crosby did that a couple years back in the QMJHL and got a ton of flak from Don Cherry for being a hotdog. Where'd that kid end up? Hmmm :)

I have to agree with Biladupa -- this guy stole this from Sidney Crosby. This goal isn't that big of a deal.

I agree,..it is the best hockey goal in the world

It would have been nice if he was a teammate of Adam Foote's.

Since I was at that game as a MN fan I think it was a BS goal..
That type of move has since been declared illegal at least in the college ranks....

@jmachockey73 Actually, yes, this type of goal has been declared illegal and would be called a high stick now.

This was the first time it was ever done... Hence why it is called "The Michigan".

I assumed it was more recent. Seeing as it's from 1996, you're right. I stand corrected.
