That's so funny, that most of the 'experts' commenting this video are drum noobs, who don't have a fuckin idea what a trigger is. Great playing, dude.
Nicely done, I am 25yrs of DT amazement . That aside, I would not sweat the idea that you won't sound exactly like MP. My .02: Kick sounds fine - there is no issue with the sound quality and I listened on really high quality headphones. Your singer, well, this may not be his key or thing ;) Labrie takes a lot of sh*t for his singing and your singer is going too also. And, go ahead and stand up -- I've been spinning symbols/standing up since the eighties before MP was even on stage!!
you and your bassist should be in a better band bro. you did really well =) the only problem that i could hear (im also a drummer.) is the tempo problem which realy isnt a problem. but nice job mate =)
Don't know much about triggers or why the "house" does the crazy shit they do from time to time, but you've got skills brother!! Props for puttin' this up, great job!
the people complaining about the kick are WRONG, kick sounds great. and their opinions are wrong regardless of whether you think they are entitled to their opinion they are not in this case. they are just simply incorrect.
im sorry but the kick sounds like shit, your singer sucks, and you were off a good bit with the bass drum hits. im not saying you did a bad job with it, its just that the triggers pick up every tiny little tab of reverb as a hit. so its not your fault. you did good but the singer, eww. atleast set it as a different setting for the trigger. and yes i did read the description.
@killu626 All good dude. The trigger was not my idea at all, that was what the house was using to amplify the kick instead of a mic. Also keep in mind, this was our first show so screws were bound to be lose with peoples performances including mine =)
@RJPass yeah man. im not giving you a hard time or nothing, i mean its a tough song to learn, but a kick ass one at that. i learned the whole song in like 3 hours of constant listening haha. and that was good for a first gig, you all will get alot better with time and experience. =)
@DanFdoCC Use a metronome to start with, and just play some basic beats but just doing constant 16ths with your feet. Once you can do that smoothly, try it without the metronome.
Start slow until you can do it at that speed, then speed up by say 5bpm or something.
After, play around with some random patterns instead of constant 16ths. Now try some songs.
Apperantly you have issues with reading. Read the info. Says my kick is triggered. It also says it was not my idea as the venue did it. As far as MP being the only one to be able to stand and play, he is and i think i pulled it off pretty nicely. Also, it's a TRIBUTE not a cover. Learn the difference.
@RJPass Tribute or not, you're still covering it.. But anyway, good job on the song, especially singing as well. I've tried it, harder than it looks haha.
@Idranmurd WHAT?! He was GREAT, very very Mike, and lets not forget, what would Mike say? Come on... He'd be stoaked as usual as he seems to be about EVERYTHING, Stand up and play? HELL YEAH! And the kicks sound alot like Mike's old 24's on Images and Words, yeah I know triggered, but it's still DT, just Ol' school!
interesting that the house triggers the kick! that's really a call that should be made by the band... any good FOH engineer can get "click" out of a kick with a proper mic and compression.
I'm doing the heel toe technique on the bass drum. Also, if you had read the description prior to making unfounded comments you'd see that my bass drum was triggered, not by me but by the venue. That's why you hear it all clicky but my beaters are playing every single one of those hits. 2 with the right, 2 with the left.
Triggering is where a sound is played digitally whenever there is a signal from either a microphone or trigger device attached to a given drum
So lets say you want a nice punchy kick sound, but dont have a decent microphone- you can use a bad microphone or trigger device and a pre recorded sound of a punchy kick drum, and set it up so that whenever you hit the kick, the nice punchy pre-recorded sound is played instead
Awesome job guys. You all sound great to me! I'd love to see some higher quality shoots of the full band, but there's a nice bright future ahead to get that done!
i don't know what these people are bitchin' about.. dude, ignore these trolls. i thought you were amazing! :] \m/

Overall decent job, but the bass drum just shakes it up too much at times. Especially at times your kick is behind your hands.
