  • what kind of rifle?

  • @Den19041977 JD was using a Theoben Rapid 7

  • Funny, after watching all these airgun vids I went to purchase a AATX200 (I believe that compressed air to much hassle for me). I live in the in NJ in the states and have both a long weapons license and a pistol license. I was informed that I could not have it shipped to me because of restrictions. My local gun store won't help either because of fear of restrictions - I can buy a Crossman. Makes no sense that I am allowed to leagally purchase cartridge arms but airguns are a no no.

  • @mojofish1 It is amazing the difference in the gun laws , from area to area and from country to country

  • @gunner17722 Agreed. However I can send old airguns out for repair with no issue; there is a custom airgunmaker in another state who can legally take my preexisting collection (beautiful 1960 & 70's CO2 rifles and pistols) modify them to pneumatic and send them back to me as a repair. So I am now contracting him to soup-up my old collection one at a time... should be fun to see what he can do - vintage baby. Makes shopping flea markets for rustbuckets more worthwhile. I'll post some videos.

  • Omg kill kill kill yes I love it boom head shot!!!! Hahaha

  • I enjoyed your commentary as you showed your skills of field craft. Please continue with more video and comments. ...Very good!....

  • pigeons are cool,I saved two baby feral pigeons and hand fed them, now they are pets. I don't let them fly because some asshole with an air rifle will likely kill them.

  • gunner17722 Sounds Like He Could Narrate for National Geographic... ..Thanks for Sharing the Great Video..

  • this type of killing is okay.... a pest problem is a pest problem....

  • 0:32 - sounded like the call of collered dove to me, appose to the constant burbling of the feral pigeon. mighta just been in the background. good hunting!

  • RIP john

  • i have a question for u...can feral pigeons be eaten? can doves be eaten as well?

  • @batman00131 feral pidgeons around town and houses are now on every councils vermin list above rats. they carry the same disease as rats but because they make more mess with thier droppings (crap) and when it dries it turns to powder and blows in the wind and folk breathe it in , they are now on the most wanted list. pidgeons around farms have a tendency to eat grain from the fields or barns so are safer to eat..

  • @moonbear

if u are culling for the sake or concern for disease, i understand....but I am a medical professional, have had doves, pigeons and pets.....HUMANS...ARE THE WORST DISASTER FOR CARRIERS OF DISEASE!

  • @1962camille i would doubt you know anything about animal disease and prob an anti wannabee other wise are you watching the vids . after all you are mentioning pets which are fed good food on the other hand feral animals have to scavenge usually in waste areas picking up and carrying disease.

  • @batman00131 Doves can definitely be eaten. Pigeons and doves are very similar, but for some reason I find pigeons very unpalatable. Not the taste (I am sure if you cleaned and cooked it, I couldn't pick between them), just their habits and the associations I have with them.

So doves I eat. Pigeons the cats & dogs eat.

  • i didn't know that pigeons were feral? Do you know what feral means? I don't think that is the best terminology!

  • wat air rifle did he use it lookes like a theoben rapid 7 mk1 ??

  • @TheAirgunmadness yes a rapid seven

  • That is a great video mate. I found it quite educational. Also, nice rifle. I use Air Arms S410 Classic and love taking a few pigeons every now and then. What I found most amusing though was some of the negative comments you have recieved about your hunting videos. If people don't like them, why do they watch them?

  • @MattyCons59 exactly , when they click on a video with the title " ferret kills and eats a rat " then WTF do they expect to see , don`t like don`t watch , simple

  • @gunner17722

I like your video mate, very informative. I have subscribed. I've not done any hunting videos yet, kind of tricky!

  • did he shoot with sub 12 foot pounds or fac, very good vid

    regards

    scooter

  • I have a question. I have a rifle (.177 1000FPS) So far I've only gotten 1 dove and a squirrel. The problem is that my gun doesn't have a rail to mount a scope. Do you think its bad that I only have irons? Thnks to anyone who responds.

  • @SENSEofRAID Nothing wrong with iron sights, I actually bought a scope for one of my pellet guns and I noticed I was missing more shots with it, didn't really care for it. Most pigeons, rats, squirrels, mice, etc...., don't spook too easily, so you can get within range to shoot with the iron sights.

  • @turkey2003 Ok :) Thanks! That makes me feel better :) Thanks again

  • ww w. rabbitingdays .co m new forum just come online, forum mod positions available, head to it guys its focused solely on rabbiting, and is 100% free, thanks guys

  • He looks like terence McKenna

  • mmmmm

  • i'd have no issue with shooting a bird with my air rifle if i was going to eat it, but i wouldn't shoot one for fun, still i can see why people get tempted.

  • Excellent video John!!! Very informative

  • Nice video,

I bagged 10 ferals yesterday with my logun Axsor... Sadly no woodies for tea.!

  • slick hunter if i ever saw one, great shooting aswell!

  • All i scoff down me is woodpigeons no way i'd scoff a feral as they congregate enmasse and stand in shite all day but woodpigeons are pretty solitary and clean the meat is top class.

  • Cool

  • im going to buy a pcp air rifle which i am goin to hunt rabbits doves and other smal game whit it which cal should i buy 4.5mm 5.5mm or 6.3mm the 6.3mm verision do not got a clip but 4.5 and 5.5 got a clip whit 10pellets plese help me

  • @bomanio1 learn to shoot a springer first b4 you jump into a pcp. a good springer shooter will be a great pcp shooter, but a good pcp shooter that learned on pcp's will be a poor springer shooter.

  • hay all you clips of john darling are relly good the best iv seen and his tip are better then any book iv read and any dvd iv wached you should make a dvd of all his clips

  • @gunner17722 so can feral humans :D

  • Hi,

    nice video.

A little question, do you eat the shotet birds? You are from whitch country? Im from Europe - Czech republic :-) Im can shot only for paper target or can. Or i must have a hunter permision, but no one shot here feral pigeons.

  • i always scoff em its top meat for the price of one pellet

  • Fantastic videos and must see viewing if like me your returning to hunting with an air rifle after a long lay off or a brand new shooter

    amazing information,skill and knowledge

    Thank you

  • Excellent video!

I especially appreciate how you carefully explain how to best take your shot to ensure clean, humane kills.

Always nice to see something instructional from a true hunter who believes in respecting his game.

Plus, you do something I have never done with pigeons: eat them!

I'm fearful of histoplasmosis, as my own brother nearly went blind from it, and pigeons were almost undoubtedly the carriers that infected him.

Great shooting, and keep up the good work.

  • This is a very nice video my friend,, nice one,, john

  • how you said dont take head shots--- dude ive takin them with chest shots with a red ryder and easly take em with crossman pump guns

  • we eat dove here, like that , just the breast plate. but we call pigeons squib. they are nasty. bug eaters and garbage eaters. the hmongs eat them like they are going out of style. they trap them in the parks, we only dine on dove thru-september 1st thru the 31st.

  • you eat these kills??? are they deiseise free. what do they eat.???

  • Oh yes... nothing like a pigeon thats tumbled down a shit covered roof!!! Joly good !!!

  • @Chrisser1976 - This comment is absolutely disgraceful. If you truly feel that way, you should seek psychiatric therapy. God forgive you.

  • @gjoo7 It may seem that way but there was further constructive discussion post that comment. I followed Darling for a long time (from about '84 What's your knowledge of him then ? By the way why were your comments removed. Are you OK ?

  • @Chrisser1976 Comments removed as they were corrupted. Bad connection. I found JD's books and dvds really helpful when I took up shooting. What had he done to so offend you that you would wish him dead?

  • flying rats :)

  • John Darling in my opinion was the best air-gun hunter of all time. I have a lot of respect for the man who first introduced me to air-gun hunting. Not only was he a very capable marksman, his field-craft skills and knowledge of the countryside and the quarry were truly first class. A proper countryman and a true gentleman. He will be sadly missed. God bless you John, wherever you my be. R.I.P.

  • @getready2012

    Oh, shit!

    He died?

    A genuine pity.

As you, I greatly appreciate how he went to great lengths to explain how to hunt ethically in this video.

A man who obviously knew the difference between proper hunting and poaching.

  • stop killing those birds

    SON OF A BITCH

  • @flyingkingdom people like you are idiots where do you think meat comes from ?

  • i used to read all his articles in airgun world very respectful hunter.

  • awesome video very good shots especially the last one. what rifle are you using and wwhat caliber and fps?

  • @TheDodgeChallenger JD was using a theoben rapid 7 , he normally used .22 bisley superfield or magnums

  • @gunner17722 thank you

  • @gunner17722 Yeah .22 is his shit...

  • hi m8 i think ur information is spot on , the fact that jenaka008 is gettin ratty is because he/she dosent actually know what he/she is talking about, everyone knows that feral pigeons are one of the worst diseas carryers around today and no cat or dog even comes close , maybe jenaka008 has nothing better else to do then pick at other peoples comments. keep up the good work and happy air gunning

  • Great vid, what an interesting bloke. You can learn a lot from his videos if you aint got someone expirienced to go shooting with.

  • ok yes i have tons and tons of pigeons on my farm and i dont care what you say but they give diseases to the cows then they die cuse of a fucking bird. and man in my barn i get my gun rested right on my headlocks in the barn and can easily scope them in the head

  • thankyou for posting , this man is a legend . as for the anti shooters , if you dont like it dont watch it !! go watch something you like and mind your own business and stop interfering . and stop eating meat and dont use shoe leather and dont go to hospital where drugs are used that have been tested on animals to save human lives , in fact fuck off from our natural planet !!!!

  • Not so -- that's pest control spindoctoring. A domestic cat carries more bacteria in its saliva than a parkful of pigeons.

And as for your statistics, we all know that violence attracts voyeurs!

  • feral pigeons carry many diseases that are harmful to humans , the best known disease passed from ferals is psittacosis but over 40 more diseases can be passed from feral pigeons to humans , including infectious diseases such as salmonella , tuberculosis and ornithosis . these birds are also a source of allergens which cause respiratory illnesses and allergic skin reactions , illnesses can be spread thru contact with droppings , feathers , pigeon parasites and infected food and water sources .

  • @gunner17722 Bullshit, no one has ever gotten sick from pigeon shit, ever. Human feces is way dirtier than Pigeon poop, all they eat are grains. They just use that excuse to kill them.Just like skunks, people kill them just because they spray a stinky fluid, snakes also get killed just because some are venomous.

  • @Mr5518steve When you're humping a girl from behind and right as you're about to cum you make a coo-ing sound like a pigeon. confused the girl turns around and you blow right in her face. she will be angry just as if a pigeon shat on her.

I was going to prove you wrong but then I found this description of pigeon shit in the urban dictionary. I really loled at that!

  • @Jenaka008 sadly he died of a brain tumour

  • @Jenaka008 owned

  • @Jenaka008, sorry, but according to your profileinformation you´re 50. and for a 50 years old not very reflected. i can´t see NO violence in this video. or are you judging by his mean face expression? guess so;). he is not laughing about his kill. he tries to kill clean as possible and the more important: he does NOT waste the bird! so, what you said in the beginning, maybe matches with these stupid american teenagers shooting bird and laughing, but NOT HERE!

  • @Jenaka008, do not mix things together! do you eat meat? and if so, where do think it comes from`? trees? seriously, humans have killed animals since we exist. and personally, i do not see any reason, why i should pay 10-15 bucks for a rabbit at wallmart if i can have it for free!

  • @Jenaka008 People have been hunting since the dawn of mankind.

  • @ploetzlich30 I hate the "stupid american" conception that you people have of us...im 16, an American and i love to hunt with air rifles. AND I EAT WHAT I KILL (except for rats of course :) and other small pests). The kids who laugh at thier mindless killing just happen to be the ones posting vidios on YouTube because they're ass holes...Think what you like, the majority of people in America that acctualy enjoy hunting and are life long hunters do have respect for their quarry.

  • @hereorther3, "stupid american conception"? where did i said something like that? i´m not against hunting, and i think this should be clear by reading my last comments. but i absolutely do not like kids running around and killing birds without any respect or even topping this by executing them just like low educated towel head would do. but here i was trying to point out, that humans eat meat since history

  • @Jenaka008 does your vagina hurt?

  • @Jenaka008 i agree. people who hunt are animal abusers and will probably abuse peepol aswel.if you are viloent then you are a bad man. protect animals. their is no smoke with no fire.

  • @PICKUPMYSOAP Good point but there will ALWAYS be fire and there for smoke so if you dont believe in it then dont participate in it. Conservation is an important part of life. Tree huggers are often the same people who march up and down the street cheering cause there gay. WHO GIVES A FLYING F***. No one wants to be backed up in traffic for 2 hours hear about what you believe is right and wrong. That is for god to decide. one more thing. If you dont like what your watching..DONT F****** LOOK ITUP

  • @PICKUPMYSOAP shut up you veggie twat. If you don't like hunting videos then why did you search for and watch one. Any idea where meat comes from?

  • @MattyCons59 meet is being made by bad men on farms were they is very crule to the animals. everone cuold stop eating meet and just eat linda mucartney meals and vegatebles witch are just as nice taste and no hurting to the animals. i came on here to edjucate people that theyre are other food other than meet

  • @PICKUPMYSOAP im 15 and kill wood pigeons and preper them then cook them on a BBQ. am i a cruel farmer?

  • thats discusting! what would be funny is going around shooting humans for fun. u ppl have sick minds.

  • The world is a better place without such people, without all animal abusers, without all hunters.

  • Thankfully the pigeons are safe. For now.

  • Shut the fuck up man.

  • Comment removed

  • Ive watch all of johns Vids..was so sorry to hear John has passed with cancer...

such a gentleman who loved his sport and respected it.respect being the word...

so many will learn so much from watching John

  • feral pigeons good eating...?????????? nooooooooooo.... ive seen them eating drunks sick round my way...yuk

  • @pmay222 In the Citys they are just nasty, but out in the Countryside where they eat as clean as woodies and collard doves. So they are classed as clean to eat due to their living area and what they feed on. Saying that since I used to live in London for some 30 yrs I still have that dirty flying rat in the back of my mind.

  • some great shots there, really need some farm land to shoot in kent :/

  • God bless John.

    thats a loud rapid.

  • my rapid 12 is awsome!!!! don't blame him for using it!

  • sum good tips, thanks

  • @beaubanks1t He always used to have a Tasco AG 3-9X50 scope on his Rapid 7. It was my influence to go out and get one myself. Couldn't afford a new one, but found one second hand in 1993 when i was 12 and it's been on my HW77K ever since! Later on in his career he was paid to endorse other makes, but this film was made in the older days
