Man I Don't Know How Long You've Been Playing Guitar But Josiah That Was Awesome. Man I Envy You Guys That Can Play The Guitar. I Love The Sound Of The 12 String Guitar. I Own two 6 strings But I Cant Play Them Like I Wish I Could. Ur A Truly Talented & Gifted Person,
@desert122 Hey thanks I appreciate it. It sounds like you have to get a 12-string. This is a Takamine and not that expensive. The dirty secret about the 12-string is that if you tune it to any open tuning, you can't go wrong. It just automatically sounds fantastic without any effort.
@JosiahAltschuler Someday I Probably Will Acquire A 12 String Guitar. I Love The Sound Of Them With People Who Really Know How To Play Them. Thanks Josiah
Fantastic playing there Josiah! That's the first time I've heard this song on a twelve string and it sounds outstanding! You are a truly talented guitar picker. This song, Deep River Blues and My Granfather's Clock are some of my favorite songs performed by Doc Watson. 5 stars
That's a really great arrangement of this song. I've been trying to learn it, in Open D, from an old Doc Watson book, but the transcription is not at all like yours.
Do you have it written out, in TAB/Music? Could I get a copy from you?
Hi, thanks. A fingerpicking guy here in my town taught it to me. I'm looking at a Doc Watson book I have called "The Songs of Doc Watson" and you're right...it seems a little different. Plus, at 1:10 it's not the song anymore. I'm just goofing around at that point. Let me see if I can tab this all out at some point and I'll message you. Might be a little while though.
That's the song book I have, but there is another, later one, "Doc Watson and Clarence Ashley : The Original Folkways Recordings, 1960-1962 / transcribed & annotated by Dix Bruce". It's out of print, but I am trying to find it in the Public Library. I'm also looking for the Folkways CD. I think it is closer to the way you play it.
Let's stay in touch and share what information we find.
Hi, yeah I have that book and the Folkway CD too. It looks like I'm playing some of the same stuff, but I suspect the guy that taught me this song had already sort of made it his own.
Anyways let me know if you can't find it. I'll just scan the song and post it somewhere. It's worth getting the whole book though...and that CD....the tracks are amazing.
I really like the way you play this favourite song of mine! I heard it for the first time played by Doc Watson and his son. Merle W. did some awesome fingerpicking on this song..
I would really like a scan of the song you posted to Easy Rider if it isn't too much trouble. Just contact me and I give you my regular emailadress. Thanks very much!!

Hey there JeremioDeuce, it's open D:
D-A-D-F#-A-D
Might be a bit difficult to pick out because it's on a 12-string, and that makes the notes hard to pinpoint...especially listening through Youtube.

well what i did is i took out my slide and it ust all made sense then it all came together.thx dude

This IMO is the best piece on your whole page.
The others are simply played too fast to let one hear the tones that make fingerpicking sound as good and interesting as it does.

Reminds me a bit of the Last Steam Engine Train. Really nice. You brought the bass out beautifully.
