Sheridan knew how to kick ass. Must have inherited it from his ancestor General Philip Sheridan, who fought in the Civil War. Never mess with the Sheridans!
And in related news, "I'm sorry I killed you all shadows, if you hadn't been such evil sonsofbitches maybe we could have sat down and had coffee." It's the thought that counts.
I think B5 at times gets overly corny and even campy. I'm also not sure if I like Sheridan. It has bad visuals, that didnt age well. From a cinematography point of you it's rarely interesting and sometimes even the characters get inconsistent and surely one cannot ognore Delenn overacting. But you know what? It's moments like these and the great overall storyarc (that you can't really appreciate until season 3) that makes this show rock - even beyond it's many weaknesses. Hell, I like this show!
There was a website (I think it is dead now), but they had each Babylon 5 Characters answer to the question "Why did the chicken cross the road?. Sheridans answer was "The last time a chicken crossed the road, I blew it straight to hell!"
One of my favourite B5 scenes, and probably my favourite Sheridan scene. The final sentence seals it! I love the difference from a 'typical' Trek-style hero who would need to apologize and grovel for defending his ship. Sheridan, on the other hand, just tells it like it is.
I always thought Bruce would make an awesome US president, incidentally. :)
Along with the preceding CGI battle, this happens to be one of the only scenes from B5 I ever happened to see before I sat down and watched the show from the start.
If Sheridan wouldn't have helped Narn cruiser he would have violated Earth Force regulations! Narn ship asked for help and since Earth didn't have hostile relationship with narns..well he were obligated to offer help.
@Ares99999 He would have followed his orders, but also helped The Narn. This was not the first time The Narn and The Centauri had a shooting match near the station. He exercises discipline and his own judgement. He first had an obligation to help The Narn, and then he had an obligation to protect Babylon 5. The Centauri were the only reason he had to consider The Stations safety. The Centauri were purposely and unnessacarily aggressive.
@Ares99999 I think he has rather good judgement, and made the decision anyone charged with the lives of a quarter million sophonts should make. You, on the other hand, have only demonstrated, in this, and at least one other B5-related YouTube vid, that you have an almost obsessive hatred of Sheridan and anything B5, which leads me to wonder: Just why do you watch these B5 vids, if all you can muster for them is unreasoning hatred.
Surely, a BSG soft-core porn vid would be more to your liking.
@williamskidfears Ah, personal attacks. How are you being reasonable? Sheridan's an invented character. I am a living person, far more complicated - as you are yourself - than any TV character.
By the way, notice that I initally dropped this conversation over 5 months ago. What did you want to say, then, when you dropped in 'Blow them up anyway' without any further explanations.
And then you launch into an angry, personal attack over a one-line reply to answer your one-line reply.
@williamskidfears ... I don't like Sheridan. I liked Sinclair. I liked G'Kar. I liked Londo. I liked Delenn. I liked Marcus, Invanova, Garibaldi. Heck, I even like BESTER. But I don't like Sheridan. I don't like how he sounds arrogant at times, how he makes - to make- decisions with double standards with them (like holding the Centauri reponsible for a war they actually had been scapegoated in, and knowing it).
I don't like Sheridan, but I like Babylon 5. Disagree, but don't get personal.
@msudreaming Why would he say it to the Minbari? As I recall, this speech was intended for the Centauri after the destruction of one of their battlecruisers.
@msudreaming If I'm not mistaken, in his very first appearance, he did express his utter and complete lack of remorse for blowing up the Black Star to the Grey Council rep.
Also, in this episode("The Fall Of Night")Ivanova gives him a chunk of the Black Star as an Xmas present.
There's a bit before this were he's on the link to Londo. He cuts him off and tells him something like "your ship so much as opens a gun port and i'll blow them away. END!" is this on You Tube? Sheridan rules
Love this. John "blow things straight to Hell" Sheridan does it again! JMS called this his "Patton" speech. Proof once again that knowing your history helps you write great drama.

I believe that the director confirmed that yes, that IS what he was actually going to say if given the chance.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
This was all Sheridan's fault. He has no right to take sides in a foreign dispute. But Sheridan was pro-Narn, and this is proof.
Lets hear it for the most biased and meddling Captain!

@kimnice Really? And what if the Earth Alliance had given him standing orders to HELP the Centauri? What would self-righteous Sheridan have done?
